4 out of 5 eggsWorks great for internet; throws massive radio interference

Pros: - Amazingly fast and reliable connection; nearly triple the speed of my WiFi in dead zones
- Each Powerline connector is smaller than a typical wall transformer
-Very easy set up
-Plenty of power to drive the signal up from a basement

Cons: - Throws MASSIVE shortwave radio interference. Since it sends it's signal through your power lines, the interference plagues the entire house until it is unplugged. You can actually hear the data being sent through it.

Other Thoughts: Works VERY well internet wise, but the amount of interference sent out is quite annoying. Still recommended though.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy set up, plug n play
When it works, it works great. Only ~1 mbps slower than a 50ft cat 6 cable

Cons: Speeds can go from 50 to under 1 for no apparent reason, have tried multiple outlets, even outlets less than 10ft from each other, same problem
No response from customer service

Other Thoughts: If this product worked more often, I would give it more eggs

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the Powerline adapters. Try disconnecting electronics around the units to see if you can identify a device that may be causing interference and then relocate the unit or the device. Please also ensure you disconnect chargers that aren’t actively charging devices as they can cause interference on Powerline networks. Also avoid using GFI outlets and outlets on AFCI breakers as they can also impact your Powerline network.

Adrian

5 out of 5 eggsReliable solution

Pros: Plug it in and it works, no need for drivers or any silly tools, included cables are not super short.

Cons: Gets warm, makes a faint buzzing noise.

Other Thoughts: I got this to connect to a PC that sits roughly 15 feet away from the router but did not want to have a LAN cable running across the floor. Having 2 power outlets, one next to the PC and the other next to the Router had me give it a try and I am glad I did. It takes less than a minute (your time may vary) for the units to come fully booted up, their speeds were topping out our cable connection (30mbs). In the same exact spot with a 2.4GHz USB wifi dongle, I was getting between 2mbs to 10mbs max, with these, I never go lower than 15mbs and normally hit the 20's.
I have to stress that it depends largely on the wiring of your house, the age etc so results can not be the same across the board. The minor complaint I have on them is that they can get warm and have a faint buzzing noise but it is not really loud nor annoys me.
The included LAN cables are not stupidly short either, I would guess at 3FT, good enough for most cases.

1 out of 5 eggsSave your money

Pros: I'm a tech by trade so I often buy stuff and try it out for awhile to see how it works. I bought two sets of these (4 total) and they have never worked well. I intended to replace my 200 mb version, which did work, but ended up with a bunch of stuff to add to my junk drawer.

Cons: I've tried endless combinations and none work well. I get worse speeds with these then my 200....how is that possible when these are 500s? WiFi is faster and that shouldn't be the case. I say try another brand because quality control is poor...hence the price.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Lunarskye,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the TPL-406E2K. If you have not done so, please update them with the latest firmware update located on our website. Typically a slow connection would be related to interference. You can try different outlets and disconnecting electronics around the units to see if you can identify a device that may be causing interference. Avoid using GFI outlets and outlets on AFCI breakers as they can also impact your Powerline network. If you continue to experience issues with the adapters please email adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone assist you as soon as possible. Please include a link to this review.

3 out of 5 eggsSlower than WiFi

Pros: They did work as expected for one set.

Installation was easy.

Price was good with sale.

Cons: It was slower then my WiFi, which beats the purpose of buying this product at first place.

Out of 3 computers I tried (three different outlets), the speed varied, from 7 MB to 16 MB.

But the connection dropped couple of times / hour.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Matt,

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with the Powerline adapters. You can try different outlets and disconnecting electronics around the units to see if you can identify a device that may be causing interference. Try to relocate the unit or the device to see if that helps. Avoid using GFI outlets and outlets on AFCI breakers as they can also impact your Powerline network. Typically this type of issue is caused by interference. If you cannot find a source it may be a hardware issue. 5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: These things work great. I just plugged them in, hit sync on both of them and then plugged one into my router using Ethernet and the other into my PC. The speed is the same as my Wi-Fi was and far more reliable with lower ping.
I got my set for $40 which was cheap at the time, but that seems to be what they cost now retail. So for the performance you get out of these, it's a great deal if reliability and security is important to you.
They're small enough that you can share a an outlet with another device.
They have LEDs on them indicating they're status. Very nice. The LEDs aren't too bright.
The pack came with a set of Ethernet cables, which I intend to replace with a set of longer flat cables.
Allows you to use Ethernet instead of wireless and avoid having to run ridiculously long cables.
You can use a number of them together in a network. I've seen people use 8 of them on a single network.

Cons: You could spend the same amount of money on a Wi-Fi router and connect more devices with higher bandwidth on the wireless and wired connections. So this is more of a specialty product that might not be ideal for everyone.
It would be nice if the cables were longer.
Only 500 Mb/sec max bandwidth in and out combined.
Not the greatest product high bandwidth is important on your network. If you stream a lot of videos or games on your network you will probably want to a set with higher bandwidth. I personally wouldn't even expect the 600 Mb set to suffice in that regard. A 100 Mb set would be ideal in that setting.

Other Thoughts: I read that you should use them on a vacant outlet or it could degrade your signal. I have mine plugged into the same outlet as my PC, which is a serious power hog, as well as several other devices on that power strip with the powerline adapter plugged into the opposite outlet. It works just fine. Far more reliable than my wireless adapter was. The drivers for the Wi-Fi adapter I was using were constantly failing and driving me nuts. With this powerline kit, that isn't an issue any more. For optimal efficiency, you should use them on a vacant socket. But it isn't absolutely necessary.
These power line kits are great for gaming. You get the low latency of an Ethernet connection. Using this adapter improved my ping significantly. I didn't expect it to improve by that much. It lowered it by an average of 15 to 20. Which is awesome because my ping times really licked bad and I couldn't figure out why. I assumed it's because I live out in the middle of nowhere, but turns out it was my wireless network.
I've been considering using these for all of my gaming consoles and PCs. I have Xbox One/360, PS3/4, Wii U, 2 laptops, 2 PCs, WD Live TV, 2 Ipads, 2 Ipods. So I have ample need for both wired and wireless connections. These things are perfect for me.
I read that you shouldn't use them on power strips, but I've seen people do it and they worked. Your best bet is to use multiple adapters on a single power strip with nothing else on it. I mean, If you have need for several in one area like I do next to my TV.

5 out of 5 eggsIt Just Works.

Pros: Simple, dependable, flexible. I bought one set (two adapters in other words) to extend connectivity to a distant corner of the house. The adapters worked right out of the box and the connection has stayed up for months.

Cons: Not a real problem, just a "would be nice": I with these had a "straight-thru" AC socket on the front.

Other Thoughts: I live in Europe, so as you can infer, these devices work just fine on 220V. I also found that, contrary to what I'd read, they work just fine through power strips; chalk it up to cautiousness on the part of the vendor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat way to extend your network!

Pros: Easy to use, just plug it in to the router and the wall on one end and on the other plug it in where you want and add the device you want to connect. It is that simple.

Cons: Not really a con, but you must plug this in directly to the outlet and not a power strip.
