4 out of 5 eggsSolid Router Overall

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Solid, no drops. Guest network and Gigabit Speed.

Cons: VERY weak parental controls. The router does not allow blocking sites for a specific pc (by ip or mac address), even my junk Comcast combo unit allowed you to exclude certain pc from website blocking, That would allow me to block facebook for the younger kids pc but allow the older ones to use it on their tablets.

Other Thoughts: Fix the parental controls and its a five star unit.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well for the price

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Works well for everything I 've asked of it, including Cisco's AnyConnect and Webex's. Linux's vpnc and openconnect also work without any problems. I do notice it tends to get bogged down when maintain a high load of bit torrent and forces me to reboot. Wireless range is good considering the external antenna present in the unit.

Cons: Not the most configurable router on the market. Limited filter options present for URL filtering.

Other Thoughts: For the price I paid, it is will worth it. I transfer many terabytes a month due to bit torrent and work and this little router holds up nicely, usually only requiring a reboot about once a month.

Other Thoughts: If your needing an easy set up router and great range this is the one you would be wanting.

5 out of 5 eggsImportant Follow-up Info to initial Review

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Good-price, Fast, secure, good range, good connect speeds for both wired and wireless

Cons: Must use the Router wizard to connect to your cable modem. You can't simply pre-configure it and just drop it into your network. Comes pre-configured with IP Range 192.168.10.1 instead of 192.168.1.1 which is more customary.

Other Thoughts: The Trendnet TEW-733GR's MAC Address filter blocks both wired AND wireless connections. If you have previously had another brand of router (and perhaps older) (i.e. Linksys) the MAC Address filter in those routers only blocked the WIRELESS connections, not the WIRED ones as well.

Also, make sure you update the TEW-733GR's firmware to the latest version as it addresses other MAC address filter issues.

Hopefully this information will save someone a lot of frustration and time with respect to the MAC Address filtering in this router.

Trendnet needs to put this information in their Quick Start guide and inside the router interface itself under the Access - Mac Address Filter section of the router to communicate how this particular MAC Address functions. It definitely works differently than my old Linksys WRT-54GS router, so I hadn't expected this router to act an differently.

In any case, Trendnet needs to do a better job with their documentation so that customers don't blame their product for not working and/or giving it a bad rating when it does not deserve one, as it truly is a very good router.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Low-cost, high performance, fast, and easy to set up. Trendnet Customer Service was very good about getting back to me on pre-purchase questions I had about this router.

The configuration/installation setup wizard worked flawlessly.

Cons: Can't pre-configured it and its settings for your network with another computer. If you try to do it that way, it won't connect to the internet. Had trouble getting an older Brother MFC-7840W to connect to the router.

Other Thoughts: I bought this router of from another vendor for $29.99 which is a very excellent price. Sorry Newegg that I didn't buy it from you when it was on sale for the same price in May of 2013.

I seen this router reviewed here on Newegg, so I thought I would purchase it at this outstanding price.

Setup was easy. I do recommend that you do not try to "pre-setup" the router as I did. I had to reset it to factory settings and let the wizard detect my internet connection because it didn't where I pre-configured it.

I set it up using my old router's ip range and that went flawlessly. All wired and wireless devices (save one) connected as if nothing happened.

My Brother MFC-7840W refused to connect via wireless. I finally figured out that you have to put the WPA Mode to Auto(WPA or WPA2) setting for the printer to connect. So if you have an older printing or multi-function device, that connects wirelessly, try the Auto setting for WPA Mode.

The TEW-733GR is much faster as compared to my old Linksys WRT54GS. Pages load much faster and connecting.

If you're thinking about replacing an older Router, consider the TEW-733GR. I would highly recommend this one.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Low price, Small footprint, Gig ports, Good signal, Stable, Easy setup, Decent speed. So far so good.

Cons: Mac filter issue that others mentioned. (quickly sorted out by customer support, working fine now.)

Other Thoughts: I needed to upgrade from my old linksys wrt54gl to something with gig ports and better speed. This one fit my needs and budget perfectly.

I placed the router in a central location and have no problems getting signal anywhere in a relatively small apartment. My top speed is up around 12MBps.

I read the reviews prior to buying and knew of the mac filter issue others were having, so it came as no surprise when I experienced the same issue. I contacted customer support and they quickly got back to me with a beta version of the firmware that fixed the problem right up. The mac filter is working as it should now only allowing the devices listed to connect to the network.

Great product and great support. For the price, I have no complaints.

5 out of 5 eggsTRENDnet TEW-733GR Router

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: 1)Has been running for 2 months and no problems yet.
2)Wireless coverage wide and strong even without external antenna.
3)Very customizable bios (see other thoughts for emulator link)
4)Default router password seems to be unique to each unit.

Cons: 1) Not a big fan of its form factor it is a little bulky.
2) Wish it had a built in USB port

Other Thoughts: TRENDnet provides a free emulator for the config settings, as far as I see this shows with the default settings. Just click login with a blank password.

(did not realize this before hand myself but very nice of them)

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Very easy setup. Info, passwords, etc are right on the unit. My Nook HD+ tablet was able to connect via WiFi to the TrendNet. The Nook would not connect to a D-Link DIR-605L.

Cons: Has internal antenna. Range possibly may not be as great as boxes with external antennae.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but not up to the advertized feature set

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Gig-E ports, compact, light, running stable and cool to the touch. Help pages are pretty extensive and detailed (see Other thoughts, though). Newegg did a great job shipping this item very quickly.

Cons: User interface quite cumbersome and non-intuitive. QoS not working as advertized. Wireless throughput falls short of the advertized values.

Other Thoughts: There is no Logout button in the UI, but logins time out automatically (sometimes while one is in the middle of making configuration changes, or reading through help pages).
"QoS Management" advertized, but inexistent. There is WMM on WiFi, enabled by default and grayed out. On the wired interfaces, there is no QoS, whatsoever. It is possible to limit the throughput on the WAN port (but a residential user rarely wants to purposely do that).
Product literature states "proven 300Mbps" wireless data rate. The best I was able to get was 150Mbps, when paired with 300Mbps capable wireless adapters, 10 feet away from the router (no walls or other obstacles in the path).
Support representatives are polite, trained to "apologize for the inconvenience", but not very helpful.
Overall, good basic router with Gig-E ports. If you are looking for QoS and high speed Wi-Fi, you'd better look somewhere else.
