5 out of 5 eggsgreat product and it works

Pros: i have verizon fios internet, with actiontec router,
with 3 laptops, 2 desktops, 4 ps3, 1 xbox, and 6 cell phones all on wireless. i was in need for a better signal,
signal would jump from 30-70% on the router.
i decided to buy this as of the reviews on new egg,
and magically i was getting signal range from 70-90%.
i have to access the router and scan through the channels and finally found channel 8 to be the best channel. i have notice the higher the channel the better the signal gets but also with interferance of other rf signals. router is place in the attic of a 2 floor home, so far so good. my laptop from 1st foor gets 1.5mb of download speed from bitorrent, it was a big wow for me as of able to get for what you pay for montly for the internet. i recommend this to anyone who experienced week signal off the verizon router

Cons: with this booster alone you need to access your router and scan through the signal to get the best of it.
the lower the channel the less signal it produced, at least this is what i am seing on my ps3 and laptop,
channel 10-11 would give me a range from 85-100% signal from the attic to first floor but with alot of inteferance, channel 1-6 was 30-65% very unstable,
then channel 7,8,9 i get a good stable signal of 70-90%

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent device

Pros: Works great, small.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I can now get good signal in my shop which is 75 feet away. AND, it has to go through steel siding on both buildings. Great!

5 out of 5 eggsworks with my "N" card too 802.11 b/g/n whatever

Pros: Take that underpowered Ra*ink card and and make a it powerhouse. this booser can only help so much if your card is junk then amplifi that times 5 not so bad put a high power card in there and BAM you got a serious wifi

Cons: needs a bigger antenna this 1 is way to small have a 12 dbi cube antenna that rocks what happened to Atheros? they were the best now gone?

Other Thoughts: owned this booster for 5 years now upgraded my Engeni*s super g to Rosewil* "N" and disapointing till this booster was hooked up

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy Hawking Products

Pros: None

Cons: Bought from Newegg. Unit didn't work as stated. I sent back to Hawking, ( I should have sent back to Newegg. Hawking sent me another. It didn't work either. Sent it back and have not heard from them. They won't return my phone calls. I contacted the BBB in their district and they have had numerous complaints against them. Save yourself from grief and DON'T BUY HAWKING PRODUCTS.

Other Thoughts: Buy the way, Newegg is my favorite place on the net to deal with, Still.

4 out of 5 eggshawking hs2

Pros: great range extension
cheap

Cons: annoying high pitched whine -- easily fixed
would have been nice to ahve a longer extension cable

Other Thoughts: grwat product -- really extends the range of g networks.
went from 2 to 5 bars in 1 location and from 0 to 2 bars in another.
High pitched noise is very annoying -- but i just wrapped 2 inch thick foam around it and duct taped the whole thing and voila no noise
doesn't appear to get hpot enough to be an issue -- but i am checking specs as we write

4 out of 5 eggsworks for my situation...

Pros: Max (500mW) setting does increase signal strength when replacing the Routers oem antenna with the hawking unit
(see below by how much)

Cons: Versus my existing PC setup using a high gain directional antenna:
Low (100mW) setting did not show up on a scan
Med (200mW) setting showed same signal strength as oem antenna on router

Slightly audible high frequecy buzz coming from amplifier when plugged in. Its one of those situations where you don't hear it from 5 feet away but if you turn your head this way or that, you can hear it a little bit... more annoying than an issue as my dog doesn't seem to be bothered by it.

Other Thoughts: My setup:
Recieving pc sits in a far SW corner bedroom of a 4K sf one story house, has an SMC directional 6dB antenna aimed through 7 walls to the farthest NE corner home office. The office router (D-Link DI-624) had the oem antenna. Without the SMC 6dB antenna, the pc recieved no signal, with the SMC antenna it ranged from 45-51% Signal strength and 11-18Mbps transfer rate. With the H2B2 booster on the router at 500mW, I got 63-67% signal strength but no increase in xfr rates. When I moved the H2B2 to the top of the desk hutch (about 2 feet higher than where it was in the first test, the signal strength dropped down to 53-57% but my xfr rates doubled to 24-36Mbps.

I ended up leaving it in the higher position for the higher xfr rates not to mention the high pitch noise was less apparent.

Originally, I considered getting another SMC 6dB antenna for the router but I decided that was too dedicated. Using the H2B2 allows me to use my wireless laptop anywhere throughout the house now

2 out of 5 eggsNot much , here's the data

Pros: Small, EZ setup, can adjust gain

Cons: I just bought an HSB2 with some high hopes and expectations. So far it doesn’t look very good. I setup a test case in my home and here’s what I’ve got:

1: Linksys wrtp54G router upstairs
2: Old Optiplex in my daughter’s room downstairs. They are maybe 25 ft apart through two walls
3: Gateway 614GE connected wired, to the switch
4: The Optiplex has a Novatech 802.11G adapter
5: Network bandwidth ~ 20Mbs

Signal strength meter used is Wirelessmon from Passmark

Network bandwidth checked with Qcheck from Ixia

Initial condition:
Linksys router to Optiplex
Signal strength -54 - -60dB, meter says ~50% signal strength
Bandwidth ~20Mbs

HSB2 200mW
Linksys router to Optiplex
Signal strength -55 - -60dB, meter says ~50% signal strength
This is 0% gain
Didn’t check bandwidth

HSB2 500mW
Linksys router to Optiplex
Signal strength -47 to -50dB, meter says ~59% signal strength

Is it really 500mW? That should be more than a 7dB gain

Other Thoughts: I will update this (if possible) after more study.
