The IEEE 802.11n Draft prohibits using High Throughput with WEP or TKIP as the unicast cipher. If you use these encryption methods (e.g. WEP, WPA-TKIP), your data rate will drop to 54 Mbps. Rosewill recommend setting your router's wireless encryption as WPA-AES or WPA2-AES or update the latest firmware, in order to keep your wireless transfer rate at N speed.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Non that I know of.

Cons: Turns out, it does not work with windows 8.1. Not Roswill's fault, I should have read the description more thoroughly.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Cheap Junk

Other Thoughts: I bought this on sale. After installing the software on a fairly fresh install of Windows, I got a blue screen. Went into safe mode and restored. Made sure all of the software was uninstalled. Then my desktop worked fine with no issues.

I was going to send it back but because of the sale price, return shipping would have been just as much as the money I would have gotten back. I would look elsewhere.

3 out of 5 eggsbad start but good

Pros: it does exactly what it says it does. it works and i am currently using to write this. it's reliable and the connection is stable.

Cons: The driver disk is a mini dvd that i had trouble getting to work. i could not find drivers online so i eventually resorted to putting it in a normal dvd drive and preying i could get the drivers to a usb before it scratched the disk up to bad. once i got the drivers though it was simple and works well.

Other Thoughts: before buying be sure you have a way to make the driver disk a normal size dvd or be prepared to Jerry rig it like i did.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent, not just for the price

Pros: This USB card is used on a gaming PC in the same room as the router. It always has full strong signal, and works great for online gaming. I got this for only $10. Zero complaints.

Cons: Needed to manually install drivers from website for windows 8
Can't handle large files/heavy traffic

2 out of 5 eggsDon't buy it.

Pros: Uuuuhhhmmmm.....
Wireless "N" connections are decent.
Range is better than most.

Cons: Totally sucks at "G" connections. It would usually connect OK initially, and then shortly after, start dropping packets and having totally random jitter (ping times) - like 33% dropped packets and jitter of 180ms to over 3000ms. I cross-checked this using a laptop in same location (with built-in wifi), which had a result of 110ms - 180ms and no dropped packets.

Windows can't just install it, so you either need the CD or the driver on a thumbdrive (or similar solution). While this isn't totally uncommon, it shows the manufacturer doesn't bother with the "due process" of giving the drive to MS (which costs, I realize). And the Windows 8 driver is beta and "experimental". Come on, how long has Windows 8 been out??

Other Thoughts: I'm really disappointed by this purchase. When I was using on an N network it was pretty decent, nothing to write home about, but worked. Now I'm in Japan and only have a G connection available at the moment, and WOW, it is soooo bad. Rosewill is a pretty decent brand in my experience, and this was totally unexpected. I don't want to have to buy a new wifi router just to use this adapter, you know? So basically a throw away at this point.

5 out of 5 eggsDoubled DL Speeds

Pros: Doubled my download speeds, easily.
Based on Speedtest.net, I went from 25 MB/s on my laptop NIC to 50 on this, and ping was reduced significantly. Upload speeds are still bottlenecked by my ISP however.
It is truly plug-n-play style. It takes about 5 minutes or so to set up on Win 8 after plugging it in and when it start auto-installing drivers.
It comes well protected, not that it will easily break, and the antenna is good quality.
It does come with a USB Female to Male extension, about 2 feet long. I feel you wouldn't need it though.

Cons: Not much at all, honestly.
It is fairly wide, so if it is adjacent to another USB port, it may block it, even if the other connector is pretty low profile. This isn't major, as the extension is included that has a smaller footprint.

Other Thoughts: This was a great upgrade. The CD isn't needed if you don't want to use it, or if you can't. Great speeds and response, it just has what you need.
The green LED indicator is great for contrast vs blue or white.
Be careful, if you only have on USB port open, it may not fit.
It just works!

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of DREN

Pros: Eventually worked

Cons: Bad plug and play - not recognized by Win 8.1 when inserted in USB port, and no prompt by Win 8.1 to install a driver. My mother board is a brand new Z97 and I doubt the problem could be related to my PC.

Included driver on CD crashed my computer every time I tried to install it.

The Windows 8 drivers available online are still in beta, even though Windows 8 has been out for a year and a half.

The Windows 8 downloadable driver is not an executable. I know how to install a driver manually but not everyone does. This would have been fine in 1993 but not 2014!!!

The non-executable driver installation documentation said to open device manager and go to the 'other device' tree, but my device manager does not have an 'other device' tree. I enabled the hidden devices and still had no 'other device'. Also, when I searched my other device trees for a Rosewill wireless adapter I could not find it. Turns out I should have been looking for a Qualcomm even though the adapter has 'rosewill' stamped on it in red letters.

Once I got the adapter driver installed properly there was no notification that it was working, I discovered this fact by accident.

Other Thoughts: Stay far far away from this piece of junk.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks Great w/ Win7; Drivers Crashed my Windows 8 PC

Pros: Installed on all my Windows 7 PCs. Works great with those.

Cons: Installed on my Windows 8 PC. Asked to restart. Continuous loop, says files were corrupted. Had to renew my Windows 8 installation to get the computer to work.

Other Thoughts: I do not recommend you use this with a Windows 8 PC.
