ZyWALL USG 300 Internet Security Appliance is a Unified Security Gateway that integrates comprehensive enterprise-class security features tailored for SMB (Small and Medium-sized Businesses). With streamlined integration of both IPSec VPN and SSL VPN technologies, the ZyWALL USG 300 is an ideal solution for organizations requiring intensive VPN applications across distributed networks.

No matter you are in a remote branch office or at an unreliable hotel hot spot, the ZyWALL USG 300 can establish secure communication tunnels with IPSec and/or SSL protection. Another benefit of the integration is that the user-aware access control, scheduling, bandwidth usage and anti-threat security features can be enforced against inbound and outbound traffics of the protected network resources.

The ZyWALL USG (Unified Security Gateway) 50 is the "third generation" ZyWALL featuring an all-new platform. It provides greater performance protection as well as a deep packet inspection security solution for small businesses to enterprises alike. It embodies a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall, Anti-Virus, Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP), Content Filtering, Anti-Spam, and VPN (IPSec/SSL) all in one box. This multilayered security safeguards your organization's customer and company records, intellectual property, and critical resources from external and internal threats.

  • newegg ZyWALL USG Clean-traffic Architecture The ZyWALL USG’s clean-traffic architecture protects against network risks such as viruses, worms, Trojan Horses, spyware, phishing attacks and other emerging Internet threats. With the clean-traffic architecture, enterprises users are assured to have clean and secure network environments.
  • newegg New Generation UTM Solution The ZyWALL USG Series deploys hardware-acceleration technology in one box. Powered by high-performance SecuASIC technology and a hardware-based encryption accelerator, the ZyWALL USG Series delivers industry-leading performance and multi-layer threat protection for small businesses and enterprises. All ZyWALL USG Series products support the Gigabit Ethernet.
  • newegg Endpoint Security With the new Endpoint Security feature (EPS), administrators can easily identify “bad” users, i.e. where no AV software has been installed. By enforcing installation of the Anti-Virus software, the ZyWALL mitigates the threat of virus outbreaks and thus the loss of money and employee productivity. The EPS supports Norton, Kaspersky and TrendMicro AV client software, among others. Additionally, personal firewall software such as Kaspersky Internet Security 2009/2010, Windows Firewall and TrendMicro PC-Cillin/Internet Security 2010 are also supported with the new EPS feature.

  • newegg Robust hybrid VPN (IPSec and SSL) The ZyWALL USG Series can provide secure access between remote locations and corporate resources through the Internet for organizations of any size. Using IPSec VPN, companies can secure connections to branch offices, partners and headquarters. Road warriors and telecommuters can use SSL VPN to safely access the company network without having to install VPN software. The Series provides a flexible and easy way to enable mobile employees, vendors and partners to confidently access your network resource for better efficiency. (The following features will be ready in a future firmware upgrade in December 2011; 1) VPN Fail-over / Fall-back, 2) SSLVPN Reverse Proxy Mode, 3) SSLVPN File Sharing.)
  • newegg Application Firewall More and more network applications bring malicious software into your office. This kind of unwanted software, especially IM/P2P applications, may cause bandwidth waste or even system damage. Using the application patrol and bandwidth management features, you can have full control over traffic blocking or rate limit settings.

1 out of 5 eggsWLAN Dead after 1 Day

This review is from: ZyXEL ZyWALL ZWUSG20W 802.11n Wireless Internet Security Firewall with 4 Gigabit LAN / DMZ Ports, 2 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN , and 3G WAN Support

Pros: Full-featured, cheaper alternative to some of the other name brands for a SOHO firewall.

Cons: Difficult to set up compared to other alternatives, Wireless LAN died after a day.

Other Thoughts: Got this to replace a D-link DIR 655 as a better value option instead of one of the other more recognizable brands. I've used Zyxel wireless NICs in the past and they've never let me down, and this model got good reviews. Got it set up fairly quickly, although bridging the WLAN and LAN1 took a little bit of time, this setup process (regardless of the object-oriented interface) could have been made easier. There are good tutorials out there if you need help. However, after 1 day of use the WLAN completely died due to what must be a hardware failure. No LED, WLAN just shows as down in the admin tool. Even after factory reset, nothing. Had to go back to the Dlink which is running like a champ. I guess you get what you pay for...

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

This review is from: ZyXEL ZyWALL ZWUSG20W 802.11n Wireless Internet Security Firewall with 4 Gigabit LAN / DMZ Ports, 2 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN , and 3G WAN Support

Pros: Simple to use and setup, nice GUI, no need for CLI

Cons: Not a big fan of active cooling on a firewall, a firewall is a "set it and forget it" device for me, I have no way of knowing if the fan is still running. I would much prefer passive cooling on a device like this.

You have to buy another model or 2 up if you wan't Antivirus at the Firewall.

Other Thoughts: All in all not bad for the money, does offer options for free VPN clients as well.

5 out of 5 eggs2 ZyXel USG20W Devices

This review is from: ZyXEL ZyWALL ZWUSG20W 802.11n Wireless Internet Security Firewall with 4 Gigabit LAN / DMZ Ports, 2 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN , and 3G WAN Support

Pros: This is a highly configurable device. The wireless disconnects others report has not happened on either of the 2 usg20w devices that I purchased. Wireless 100% ok here. The interface is quite fast and the dashboard reports cpu and memory usage which comes in handy for me. Using and configuring multiple ssids is a very nice feature. I have connected multiple laptops and several android devices with no issues.

Cons: Casing is plastic. I like metal casing for network gear.

Other Thoughts: I have only had the my zyxel devices for a couple days but have had no issues with multiple continual network tests, wireless and wired. I set one of these up for a company 2 months ago and was quite taken with it. The company has not had any issues with their network since the purchase. The company does use the wireless connection on many devices.

These usg 20w devices are not for people that want to plug it in and be done. Bridging lan with wireless for instance is quick and easy with advanced knowledge of networking but a novice would need a youtube video walk through. I really and still in awe of the object orientated configuration and capabilities for sub $200 device.

5 out of 5 eggsConsistently Excellent

This review is from: ZyXEL ZyWALL ZWUSG20W 802.11n Wireless Internet Security Firewall with 4 Gigabit LAN / DMZ Ports, 2 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN , and 3G WAN Support

Pros: As an update to my review posted several months back, the USG20W guy just keeps on trucking, consistently and reliably. Deployed in a home office environment for a client, a small business which really doesn't have the time or the first-hand knowledge to be troubleshooting their networking gear. They just need something that simply works and works well -- and that's exactly what you get with a USG -- provided, of course, that you've updated to a new enough firmware version. This particular unit has been working well on version 3.00(BDR.2)C0 for quite some time now. The only thing that seems to bring it down are occasional power surges, which plague the electrical circuitry of the old house where it's installed. If it were not for the surges, I would expect to see several hundred-day uptimes from this thing between resets - no joke. It's nice to have a mission-critical option at the ready for clients who demand it, but would prefer not to spend into the high hundreds or low thousands for Cisco, Juniper, etc.

Cons: The sheer magnitude of the interface along with its heavy browser weight is often enough to deter many novices -- myself included at first. It *definitely* takes some time getting used to, regardless of your knowledge level, as a first-time user. Once you get the hang of this thing, though, routine actions and deployments become much faster, if not outright automated (settings export/import, command-line, etc).

Other Thoughts: Reviewers who knock this thing for being too complex or having poor this or that (much of which is completely mitigated with proper setup) could perhaps gain quite a bit of insight by stepping back and understanding the level of device that they're getting themselves into here. This is *not* a consumer-class product series (at least it doesn't appear to be the goal with the USG series). As such, in the world of networking especially, newbies need not apply, or if they do, they must understand and be ready to invest the time into actually learning networking terminology, proper networking setups and how they are achieved with the USG. Once that is done, I would anticipate many 1-egg and 2-egg reviews would turn into 4 or 5-egg reviews.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad...

This review is from: ZyXEL ZyWALL ZWUSG20W 802.11n Wireless Internet Security Firewall with 4 Gigabit LAN / DMZ Ports, 2 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN , and 3G WAN Support

Pros: Has every capability I had hoped for. Has capabilities that I don't even understand. Good looking unit, too. Will continue playing around with it as I need new capabilities in my home network.

Cons: Drops WLAN, so I just turned it off and used separate access points. Takes a while to get it set up, but worth it in the long run. Requires knowledge of networking to really unlock its full potential.

Other Thoughts: If your networking knowledge is low, be prepared to spend a lot of time on Google. Look at each option and understand what it means and what it will mean to you. Almost nobody will use every option, so don't feel bad if you skip over a few. Be prepared to spend a while configuring the firewall, especially if you have network zones that you want to keep separate.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Support

This review is from: ZyXEL ZyWALL ZWUSG20W 802.11n Wireless Internet Security Firewall with 4 Gigabit LAN / DMZ Ports, 2 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN , and 3G WAN Support

Pros: I do not know networking well and wanted to set up a VPN between my wife's store and our home network in order to monitor some cameras, sales etc.

I have enough knowledge to set up my own wireless network at home. The Zyxell tech support walked me through all of the rest. It took a while to set up, but they were patient with both the cameras and some special firewall rules I needed.

I would not be able to tell the difference between this and any number of other routers... I just don't have the knowledge. The tech support, however, was outstanding. I will buy all my future routers from Zyxel.

Cons: Interface is challenging to those who are ignorant of network setup. Fortunately the tech support is excellent.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat features for the money,

This review is from: ZyXEL ZyWALL ZWUSG20W 802.11n Wireless Internet Security Firewall with 4 Gigabit LAN / DMZ Ports, 2 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN , and 3G WAN Support

Pros: Highly configurable for this price range. I just installed these in two different offices. So far so good.

Cons: The documentation could be better. The examples are too brief and there are not enough of them.

Other Thoughts: I'm pleased with the value. Although I wish I could save some time by finding better example configurations for the typical small businesses I encounter.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid

This review is from: ZyXEL ZyWALL ZWUSG20W 802.11n Wireless Internet Security Firewall with 4 Gigabit LAN / DMZ Ports, 2 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN , and 3G WAN Support

Pros: Well laid-out UI
Stable
Very feature-rich for the price point
ZyXel tech support is efficient and knowledgeable

Cons: UI is fairly heavy for remote management if using a slow connection
Enclosure is predominantly plastic, but I guess at this price I feel better knowing the bulk of the investment is going towards good internals and quality firmware

Other Thoughts: I've had this unit deployed in a home-office environment now for several weeks and it's been rock solid, serving 3 desktops, 2 laptops, 2 smartphones, a USB network drive, and a myriad of wireless guests. I'm not sure what exactly was causing problems in the setups of the previous couple reviewers, perhaps older firmware issues that have been resolved since the last few updates? Compared to the plethora of garbage I've used before (consumer-level stuff from Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, etc. just to name a few), it's finally nice to have something that just works reliably and has the processing power, flash and ram to be able to swallow up heavy network traffic and/or routing policies and not miss a beat. Basically, this a Cisco or Juniper for half the price with hardly any downfalls. Well done, ZyXel!

2 out of 5 eggsNot a business-class replacment

This review is from: ZyXEL ZyWALL ZWUSG20W 802.11n Wireless Internet Security Firewall with 4 Gigabit LAN / DMZ Ports, 2 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN , and 3G WAN Support

Pros: Has all the features, interface is nice everythign sets up in the way you expect a NG or CSCO firewall to setup. Lots of features

Cons: WLAN is buggy, for the one deskotp that HAS to be wirelses it's fine all by itself. If I try and join my HP laptop to the wireless it stops packet flow to and from the wireless and requires a hard reboot to fix. It jsut doesn't work right, right our of the box I had this problem. I keep looking for upgraded BIOS with no luck. If I cable the laptop, no problem.

Other Thoughts: maybe in the future
