5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Easy setup, works well, no problems or issues. I use these as inexpensive access points by turning off the DHCP function... The Wifi works well & extends networks in a simple manner!

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: When using the web setup interface, make sure the computer has JAVA installed! This is required to run the setup in a browser!

4 out of 5 eggsStellar tech support, Great value

Pros: Packed with features, fast Realtek processor can push data through at Comcast speeds (20+Mbps).

Based on the chipset combo (RTL8196C + RTL8188RE), the power saving modes and included (removeable!) 5dBi antenna make this a great, cheap replacement for aging 802.11g home routers.

The tech support is expert, and the device is feature rich.

Cons: No DD-WRT support
Wireless is flaky to some devices with stock firmware.
Single antenna
150N mode only, single band

Other Thoughts: Works well once the firmware is upgraded. Despite what other reviewers say, there is a "firmware recovery kit." Protip: Always do firmware updates on a WIRED connection. If you fail, Zyxel provides a method to get into a recovery mode and TFTP files to the unit. Google my article at DSLreports to see details.

1 out of 5 eggsworked good till (USA.3)C0 (same as atlantis)

Pros: worked great in the small house till I saw the new firmware would fix a bug I had been having. (there is still a bug in the firmware about uPNP that has not been fixed)

Cons: Upgrade to 1.00(USA.2)C0 went ok. Upgrade to 1.00(USA.3)C0 failed. Router is now a blinking brick... There is no support available (Zyxel support says return it to the retailer (I am past the 30 days) and will not give me a rma #)...

Other Thoughts: It is unbelievable that I get the run around from ZyXEL support after multiple attempts to contact their support team thru the phone...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear chevyluvin,

1 out of 5 eggsfailed to upgrade to 1.00(USA.3)C0

Pros: Easy to setup. Good (strong) wireless signal (when it works). Works as router or as access point.

Cons: Pretty unstable over WIFI.

Needed multiple restarts (every couple of days, even every couple of hours). It can be a pretty frustrating experience to have your iPhone / netbook being disconnected and unable to reconnect on the WiFi until you restart the router.

Upgrade to 1.00(USA.2)C0 went ok. Upgrade to 1.00(USA.3)C0 failed. Router is now a blinking brick... There is no support available (nobody replies to the emails sent to support at Zyxel)...

Other Thoughts: It is unbelievable that I didn't get any response from ZyXEL support after multiple attempts to contact their support team...

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsjunk dont buy. spend the $ get a linksys.

Pros: Worked great for two weeks. Easy setup a caveman can do it.

Cons: After 2 weeks DNS server was flaky.dropping devices. Could not handle two Netflix downloads at the same time. Day 31 DNS server would not except any wan inputs. Wifi signal less than Linksys. Not a true N router. Only 150 m transfer.

Other Thoughts: Should have spent more for a Linksys. Maybe ddwrt or tomato could make it better.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for iPhone...

Pros: Works for iPhone Wifi (which is pretty much its only use for me). Solid and continuous connectivity, unlike the inexpensive Buffalo router I tried last time (FAIL, even with a firmware upgrade), which hangs every ten minutes.

Cons: None (for me).

Other Thoughts: Bought this to expand network coverage, so iPhone doesn't go to 3G and cost me extra $$ for data overages. Paid for itself in one month.
