5 out of 5 eggsGreat bang for my buck so far

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1005D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Power-Saving

Pros: I'm really glad I stumbled upon and purchased this unit. It exactly met my needs for a lot less than a major competitor whose name ends in "-gear."

I got my advertised Gigabit speeds without issue, after rebooting the computer, router, and this unit, and checking the Gigabit drivers on all applicable machines.

I just bought another for a client.

The AC to DC adapter for this thing has been on for a month and is cool as a cucumber, unlike the major competitor's unit is reported to be. Also, it is really nice in that it just takes up one space on a regular power strip, and didn't have to be positioned at the bottom or in a special wall wart outlet.

I didn't buy the one with the metal housing, just the plastic, but I knew I'd have this in an environment without a lot of action. The metal-cased one looks like a great deal too.

Buy one of these, or spring for the 8-port for a bit more. You'll be a believer. Maybe now I'll give TP-Link routers the time of day. I wonder if I've been missing out....

I can't stop singing praises.... this baby proves that you should just bite the bullet and upgrade yourself to Gigabit if you haven't done so already.... very well-priced.

OK, I'm done.

Cons: To be honest, there was a little bit of a very soft high-pitched "singing" like you'd get from dimming an incandescent bulb when I first plugged it in. However, I have a quiet office and fairly sensitive hearing.

I plugged the unit into another outlet, hooked up everything behind my desk, and I don't hear anything now.

I bet it was me, not this TP-Link. I really am glad I picked this thing up.

Other Thoughts: I just bought another because I like the first one so much.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Switch

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1005D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Power-Saving

Pros: -Cost (I got it on sale)
-Works
-Size
-Doesn't get hot

Cons: None I've experienced

Other Thoughts: I've had this for roughly 3 weeks. Upgraded my wired network through the house from 100Mbps to 1Gbps. I use this in a closet where I connect my HTPCs/extenders (house is wired with CAT5).

This switch is connected to a port on my router, the NIC on my main HTPC, and my Xbox 360 (used as an extender). Never seen any issues with this switch. Don't even think I've powered it off since I put it in.

It's paired with a TP-Link Archer C7 router. I doubt manufacturers make a difference, especially for the switch, but just thought I'd throw that out there for those curious.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like it should.

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1005D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Power-Saving

Pros: Plugged my PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and guest computer into it. They all worked just fine and all the NATSs on the systems are fine. Downloading games/updates doesn't seem to take any longer than a direct connection.

Cons: Lightweight, feels cheesy.
