Pros: Works fantastically! It does everything a switch should do. No problems at all. Highly commend.

Other Thoughts: It's smarter than I thought it would be.

1 out of 5 eggs20 bucks I'll never see again

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Power-Saving

Pros: A 9V wall wart, free!

Cons: I have never written a bomb review before. Sorry, TP-Link.

I purchased this in 7.2014, to upgrade with more modern technology my old faithful no-brand 8-port switch. Which always worked fine. Just wanted an upgrade.

I couldn't even load a page. After trying all combinations of configurations, I put it away and figured whatever I was doing wrong, it would have to wait.

Recently, I got a 1000 mbps net card and figured aha, NOW these two hi-tech units will be happy to talk to each other. I figured wrong.

Annoyed, I sent the unit off to a highly-qualified engineer friend of mine. He unpacked it, ran some diagnostics on it, and goes, "Your switch shows 11% packet loss. It's clearly defective."

Like I said, there's 20 bucks I'll never see again. So TP Link people.... yes, I know it's been almost a year, but I've never used it, because it's never worked. How would you like to swap me for a new unit that you've tested, and made sure it works to specs? Or at least, something better than ELEVEN PERCENT PACKET LOSS?

Other Thoughts: Thanks. I'll watch this space to see if TP-Link wants to be a quality outfit and do the right thing.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's OK

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Power-Saving

Pros: On the surface it seems to work OK, But it lacks the LED speed indicators that other units have. As far as my computers go, I do not see any problems. However... see Other Thoughts:

Cons: Does not work well with a Satellite TV box

Other Thoughts: I own a Rosewill RC-415 5 port switch, and it has served me well for several years now. As my network has grown, I now need 1 more port (for now). The reviews for the TP-Link seemed to indicate this unit was OK for the money. Prior to my replacing the switch everything including a Satellite TV box was plugged into the Rosewill, and everything worked fine. After replacing the Rosewill with the TP-Link, everything ran good for about a month or so. And then I started to notice that TV programming on the TV’s located in other parts of the house I suspected the Satellite Box had gone bad and so I called for service. The guy came out and ran diagnostics and the box checked out OK. The error I was getting on the Satellite Box indicated that the Server (the Satellite Box) could not connect with the smaller TV boxes associated with each of the TVs (hence my conclusion that the Satellite Box was bad). I got to thinking, what was the last thing I did... Install the new TP-Link. So I removed the new equipment and re-installed the Rosewill. Everything seems to be working as it should. So I guess I'll have to find another Switch if I want to have everything hooked up.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Power-Saving

Pros: Nice priced 8 port switch. Does everything i need it to do as advertised.

Cons: Lights have a faint flicker when in operation for no apparent reason regardless of if it is in use.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use once i needed more than the 4 ports my wireless router could support and i get great speeds (gigabit) on my LAN now. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a decent priced switch.

1 out of 5 eggsgoing in the trash

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Power-Saving

Pros: 8 ports

Cons: Slow. power strip hog.

Other Thoughts: After testing for a while back and forth with my Trendnet switch this thing is significantly slower. Power adapter is sideways and hogs the power strip blocking other plugs.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Power-Saving

Pros: Worked great right from the start. I'm getting the same speeds between computers that I was with the previous switch I had.

Cons: Like other reviews I have seen, the only con is the lack of LED color change, to know if a connected device is connected at 10/100 or gigabit. To me, it's a missing troubleshooting opportunity. I don't think it's worth knocking the device down to 4 stars though, since I bought this to be a switch, not a light show. :-)

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent !!!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Power-Saving

Pros: Way much better than my NETGEAR GS108NA ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit switch, I paid close to $57 for it and it was complete garbage always disconnected.
This "TP-Link" brand switch which I never heard before performs way better never got a single disconnect and its very stable.
Super light weight.
Best part about it is that it's price range is very friendly for a gigabit switch compared with others!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Buy this and save some money. Go Gigabit - you won't regret it.
