2 out of 5 eggsNot really a Wireless Router

Pros: Works fine as an ethernet switch. Web interface is pretty good and allowed me to circumvent the useless CD setup. Plenty of wireless options, allows you to set the tx rate frequency to increase reliability. 3 antennas.

Cons: Router won't hold wireless signal as expected. Speeds and signal on PC fluctuates from 300mbps to 11mbps. Confirmed on 2 laptops and 1 desktop with USB module. Distance was not an issue, laptop from 15 feet had the same problem. Tested on unsecured and WPA secured network, set tx rate to 40mHZ, disabled frame burst, upgraded firmware, wireless channels tested w/ inSSIDer, disabled wireless N, changed ethernet cable, and many other attempts to get it to work and I came up with the same result. Router only suitable via ethernet.

Other Thoughts: My guess is that the transmitter just can't hold the connection speeds that I need up. I considered installing DDWRT but I don't want to jump on that grenade and void the return policy/warranty. I really wanted this thing to work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We're happy to hear that you like the features and web GUI on this router and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the unstable wireless speed issue, I think it's because the wireless adapters are power saving enabled.
When the traffic is idle, it will slow down the speed to save the power, but once the traffic comes up again, it will connect back to high speed.

Please check it by downloading and browsing, you may feel the power saving mode on the adapter.

We thank you for checking out our product and wish you could check out more of our new products in the futhre.

3 out of 5 eggsDied in 9 months

Pros: Decent router while it lasted; nothing special.

Cons: Kicked the bucket after nine months and would no longer transmit a reliable signal.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry to hear that your TL-WR940N stopped functioning after only 9 months.

This is a very short life span when considering the typical expected end-of-life on these devices are meant to exceed many years of usage.

Fortunately, our routers come with a 2-year warranty, and that means yours is still covered!

If you would like to speak with one of our technicians about getting a replacement device, please call us and one of our technicians will be happy to assist you!

Best Regards!

1 out of 5 eggsNo service

Pros: none

Cons: Customer service is nonexistent. Have tried for a month to get replacement for defective router with emails unanswered and one voice communication that promised rma but never happened. Would never buy a TP Link product again.

Other Thoughts: While prices are good when the product dies you are out of luck. Did not want to give one egg but review could not be posted without. True rating -10.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear that you were not able to contact customer support. This is not intentional and is most likely caused by technical difficulties.

If you would like to replace your defective unit with a new one, please feel free to contact us at the following information and we will be glad to assist you.

5 out of 5 eggsTL-WR940N

Pros: Excellent price, range, and speed. Much better than FIOS Actiontec MI424WR. It's now being used as MoCA bridge to TL-940N. No more random buffering when watching stream content.

Cons: Fixed antanna so cannot upgrade to bigger ones though its range is already good enough for 2500 sq ft house.

Other Thoughts: Had a hell of a problem with intermittent connection only with IPad 3rd gen. Found out from Apple forum WPA2 password has be at least 20 characters. Problem fixed. Runs little warm so peformed a pre-emtive surgery. Open the case by removing two small screws behind the rubber base and drilled some vent holes on the top.

3 out of 5 eggsrequire a change or return

Pros: work perfectly.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Dear seller,
I brought the TP-Link WR940N at 8/21/2012. It suddenly out of service today. I reset the router and reload the CD, however it doesn't work. I changed to another router, the new one is working, so can I change one or what can I do.
Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsGood for multiple streams

Pros: I am from a family of 6 and we have two xbox's, 3 laptops, 3 iphones, a wireless printer, a desktop machine, and an ipod all using wifi at the same time. There are no hiccups. The QoS feature is nice when downloading large files/ streaming Netflix and still leaving room for a good connection on xbox live.

Cons: When all devices are using the home network, one of the xbox's is able to sign into xbox live yet unable to play an online match, but this is most likely from a lack of bandwidth. (We have DSL)
Also, There is only one dead spot so far in our 4000 square foot home. The very last bedroom on the side of the house does not connect to wifi when trying from the room, but if the connection is already established and the user walks into the bedroom, the wireless usually stays connected.

Other Thoughts: This TP-Link router Replaced our old Westell Versalink Model 327w. The Westell gave us no dead spots, but was significantly slower and could only hold 2/3 of the devices on the network the TP-Link is able to hold. It was worth the replacement to us.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Good Router

Pros: Features, price, ease of setup

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Easiest setup I've ever experienced with a router. Solid connection and excellent speed. I've tried them all - D-Link, Belkin, Cisco, Netgear, etc., and it is hard to beat this for the price!

5 out of 5 eggsFlexible, powerful & affordable

Pros: Quick & easy to set up with a full range of options and a very fast web interface. I'm using it as an access point and it provides great coverage throughout my 3 story house. I've been using it for a couple of months with Macs, PCs and various other wireless devices and it has worked flawlessly. It replaced a D-Link and then a Trendnet router, both of which would periodically require rebooting to recognize some devices that had previously been connected

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: This was my first TP-Link product and I've been very impressed by its performance, very capable built-in software and reliability. TP-Link will be on my short-list of brands to consider for future purchases.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router!

Pros: It simply works and works very well! Super easy setup. Great web interface! Shipped with latest firmware! Looks very nice.

Cons: There are none. However, a really small issue is that it gets slightly warm, but nothing serious.

Other Thoughts: I love this router. Took me less than 5 minutes to set up and connect all my devices. It has a great range and speed and in the two weeks since I've installed it, it hasn't dropped a single once. SOLID! One thing I suggest is that you use the CD to expedite the setup process. I know most tend to ignore that and manually setup the router, but trust me, start with the CD. It WILL save you time!
