1 out of 5 eggsTP Link TL-WR841ND Wireless Router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: Price

Cons: DOA! Not much can be said, Pro or Con, when you can't get it to power on. Can't try it to tell if it works well or not . Will probably cost as much to send back as I payed for it so I'll have to eat this one. Don't think I'll be buying any TP Link products again anytime soon.

Other Thoughts: Might work well or it might not. You'll have to decide whether you want to take a chance on this one or not.

2 out of 5 eggsso far, so bad

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: easy to set up. good signal strength, excellent service for the few days it actually worked.

Cons: just about everything else.

Other Thoughts: I have had the wireless router for only about a week. and it has already started giving me major problems. I am not hard on them, nor do I max them out. I have it in a open space all around it, and only use it for general web browsing, some facebook and their games, a few video's, and netflix. We have a 20 meg down connection and do not do file sharing in the house, so there is no way that we do anything that would strain it in any way. The room that it is in is about 65 degrees, so the room being too hot is out of the question too.

but after only a week, it is lagging so bad that with only netflix being streamed off of it, it can not keep up. also, we only really do any use of the wireless router in the evenings, as in, at times, nothing is turned on to use anything wireless until any where from 7 to 9 pm at night.

I have tried everything from doing tracert's, which are timing out, to rebooting the device, which I should not need to do after only a week, but tried anyways, to different cords, ports, etc. nothing helps except not using it for a while, then it will work for a time, then back to major lag. wired connections straight to my switch have no problems, and switching ports for the wireless did not work either. Nor did doing a firmware upgrade help any either.

I can not say as to if it gets hot or not as it is set on the top shelf of my computer desk, about 6-7 feet off of the ground, so it is not easy to grab it to check if it is getting hot. But the fact is, after only a week, it should not be already having major problems. but then again, what do you expect from china made junk.

On a side note, I gave this one a try due to the fact that I had a different older model of theirs that lasted a few years with no problems, so I figured I would give them a try again. My older model was a N 150 wireless router, and was starting to do the same thing this one is doing, but the difference, it was a few years old, this one, a week.

All I can say is if this next one does not hold up at all, this will be my last purchase from TP-Link

I gave it 2 stars because when it did work, it did have good signal strength, plus, it was very easy to setup and use. if not for those things, it would have gotten a one star. the only real positive note to this purchase. Newegg is excellent at returning merchandise. guess I will be hooking up the old wireless router until I get the replacement. That one still works better then this new one.

5 out of 5 eggsA mighty little device

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: Ultra easy to set up.
So many ways to set it up (versatile).
Great range.
A real work horse of a router !! (A Wii U, PS4, 2 PC's, and 3 phones feeding off this thing and takes it like a champ).

Cons: No cons so far.

Other Thoughts: We'll see how long this device lasts under my abuse.
So far it is chewing up and spitting out anything I throw at it.
Very glad I chose this router.
Great performance for under $20.
You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: Works like a charm. Easy, easy, setup; nothing is fool proof, but this is close. Directions are even understandable! Highly affordable (on sale, with promo code & rebate). Well worth the cost even at full price. Really can't say enough good things about TP-Link routers.

Cons: Absolutely none.

Other Thoughts: Previous router also TP-Link; has worked flawlessly for as long as I have had it (several years, at least). Wanted something with better range, and possibly compliant with higher internet speeds. I am very pleased with this purchase.

4 out of 5 eggsGood cheap router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: -Works pretty much as expected
-Admin interface is clean
-Has a QoS feature you can set by IP, nice for this price range

Cons: -Gets real sluggish and requires a reboot after it's been used extensively (and by extensively I mean heavy bit torrenting)

Other Thoughts: Overall a good product, as good as anything else in this price range.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: First time buying a TP-link product and I am very satisfied, Especially for the price.

Have this router running for almost a year now and can't remember the last time I've touched it. Once I set it up and put it away in the cabinet I haven't had any problems. Very solid speeds and reliability. It doesn't seem to give off much heat either. Perfect router for the home. Range is pretty decent, I Get whole home coverage out to my driveway. Router is located in the center of the house ~ 2400sqft

My typical network load is live streaming uploading and downloading. haven't had any problems.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGood Router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: This has been a solid router for me so far. I installed it July of 2012 as the main router on our network. Our iNet feed comes into this router in building A, from this router it feeds 2 other routers in buildings B and C. Our network overall consists of 3 Routers, 2 AP's, 1 wireless repeater, and 1 dumb switch. The WR841ND is the main "gateway" router of the network and has performed better than I thought it would.

Cons: I've maybe rebooted the router 3x in the last 2 years. Not sure if this is a con since previous routers I would reboot more frequently than that.

Other Thoughts: Due to it's location we don't use the wireless much from this router, thus it's only handing out 2 IP's from it's DHCP pool and they are reserved for the other two routers.

1 out of 5 eggsCrashed

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: Set-up was easy. Range was great (when it worked). Price affordable.

Cons: In just over a month, I've had to re-setup the router from scratch 4 times. One minute it's working great (and it does a great job when working), then the wireless is gone and I have to drag the CD-ROM out of the cabinet yet again. Contacted support - put the poor lady we were speaking to on speaker phone so that at least me or my wife might be able to understand her poorly pronounced, broken English. Gave up after 27 minutes. And you have to go through a tech person to get the RMA to send it back.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We appreciate you checking out our Router.

I am sorry that you've had a bad experience with this Router.

We do have Local technical support in the US and you may always request to speak with a Local representative.

We also recommend that you set this device up with the Web management page instead of the CD - this can be done with any Browser.

This method is usually easier and quicker than trying to use the CD.

If you need any further assistance then you can feel free to contact our local support directly and we can help you out.

Best Regards!

3 out of 5 eggsHangs frequently

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: Same brand name as a router I previously owned (TP-LINK TL-WR541G) which NEVER needed rebooting. Works fine when it works. Detachable antennas.

Cons: Hangs at least once or twice a week, which is very tiring since I'm always too lazy to walk downstairs and reboot it.

Other Thoughts: It did not used to hang so frequently, but it certainly did hang occasionally; otherwise I would give it two eggs instead of three. Still under warranty, so I'll report back after I try to RMA.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841ND Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button, 2 detachable antennas

Pros: -Cheap

Cons: -Wired and wireless connection drops frequently when connected to this device. Resetting it and changing the channel width does nothing to help. Firmware is updated to the latest as well.
-Connection is slow when it does connect to the internet. Replaced the cable it came with and it still does not work. Currently using my old router which does not have these issues.

Other Thoughts: Will be looking for a different router from a different company. The shipping cost to return this is as much as the router itself so I will use it as a paperweight.
