5 out of 5 eggsGood product. Excellent tech support.

Pros: Works great. No issues in 5+ years of use.

Excellent tech support!

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I don't usually take the time to write reviews for items which work as intended. That would be like giving a "participation" trophy. I'm writing this review now in praise of their tech support.

I own two of these wireless routers, with two corresponding TP-Link USB wireless adapters.

After a service outage, I lost internet connection in my desktop computer. Win7 reports wireless network connection, but no internet service. Comcast modem, TP-Link wireless router and USB adapter all show normal status LED lights. Called Comcast, who said no problems and promptly dumped me over to TP-Link customer service, claiming that the transfer was to their "internal TP-Link expert."

This was Sunday night, 8:30pm. Surprisingly, a TP-Link rep answered. She was professional, technically good, and definitely not reading from a script. She took me through the various troubleshooting steps, and finally we ended up deleting the SSID entry from the Win7 OS list, and then reconnect. Then Win7 was happy. At the end of the call, we both agreed that we couldn't explain why that worked.

This was an excellent tech support experience for me, rare these days. Thank you, TP-Link!

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in 15 month

Pros: It was cost effective

Cons: It used to work decently but after 15 months, the connection kept dropping and I have to reset it almost every other hour which is extremely frustrating.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Matt,

Thank you for taking the time to review our product.

We understand how frustrating intermittent connectivity can be and certainly resetting the router every couple hours should not be necessary.

Due to the issues you are experiencing, our support team would like to reach out to provide further assistance with troubleshooting this matter.

Please send us an email including your contact details along with a copy and paste of your review to the address provided below so we may follow up with you for additional details regarding your case.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked well for about a year

Pros: This router worked reliably at first. I was especially pleased that it could run DD-WRT.

Cons: After somewhere around 6–9 months, the wifi access point started becoming nonresponsive from time to time. It was still accessible over the wired network, so I could login and reboot it. It initially didn't require this more than once or twice a month.
In the last month, I've had to reboot it every two or three days, and in the last week it's become once or more a day. Today it's required five or six reboots, some less than ten minutes apart; it's clearly pretty much dead.

Other Thoughts: I admit, the price ($18 on sale) enticed me to give TP-Link a try; at that price, it's not a killer to replace it. I checked when I bought it; it was just about 13 months ago. I did pay for an extended warranty, so I'll have to make use of it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Michael,

Thank you for taking the time to review our product.

We apologize for the inconvenience you have encountered with our router and we would appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

Due to the router's recent behavior, it's apparent this is a hardware failure in which we will be happy to replace this device for you as per our 2 year manufacturer warranty. At your earliest convenience, please email us your contact information so we may follow up with you directly to assist with submitting an RMA request with our support team.

Once again we apologize for the inconvenience but certainly look forward to assisting you soon.

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!!

Pros: No problems whatsoever and has been working great for a year now. I use my TV, computer, security DVR, smart phones and tablets with excellent connection. I paid $18 for it on sale in Dec. of 2014.

Cons: Stupid as it sounds the only thing with this unit is I wish it was black instead of white, yep that's it!

2 out of 5 eggsHard Coded Limit of 15 Wireless Devices

Pros: For the most part, it works just as well as any other wireless router I have had.

Cons: This thing only supports 15 Wireless connections at any given time.
This alone drops it from a 4 star to a 2 star rating.

Other Thoughts: This thing was meeting most of our requirements, until the weather got nice and we started having guest over. Then we started running into issues with people not being able to connect their devices. Turns out this thing only supports 15 devices, this is hardcoded and can't be changed apparently. We have to actually go and power off devices (like the Fire TV, the spare tablet, etc.) to free up space for people's devices.

1 out of 5 eggsTP Link TL-WR841ND Wireless Router

Pros: Price

Cons: DOA! Not much can be said, Pro or Con, when you can't get it to power on. Can't try it to tell if it works well or not . Will probably cost as much to send back as I payed for it so I'll have to eat this one. Don't think I'll be buying any TP Link products again anytime soon.

Other Thoughts: Might work well or it might not. You'll have to decide whether you want to take a chance on this one or not.

2 out of 5 eggsso far, so bad

Pros: easy to set up. good signal strength, excellent service for the few days it actually worked.

Cons: just about everything else.

Other Thoughts: I have had the wireless router for only about a week. and it has already started giving me major problems. I am not hard on them, nor do I max them out. I have it in a open space all around it, and only use it for general web browsing, some facebook and their games, a few video's, and netflix. We have a 20 meg down connection and do not do file sharing in the house, so there is no way that we do anything that would strain it in any way. The room that it is in is about 65 degrees, so the room being too hot is out of the question too.

but after only a week, it is lagging so bad that with only netflix being streamed off of it, it can not keep up. also, we only really do any use of the wireless router in the evenings, as in, at times, nothing is turned on to use anything wireless until any where from 7 to 9 pm at night.

I have tried everything from doing tracert's, which are timing out, to rebooting the device, which I should not need to do after only a week, but tried anyways, to different cords, ports, etc. nothing helps except not using it for a while, then it will work for a time, then back to major lag. wired connections straight to my switch have no problems, and switching ports for the wireless did not work either. Nor did doing a firmware upgrade help any either.

I can not say as to if it gets hot or not as it is set on the top shelf of my computer desk, about 6-7 feet off of the ground, so it is not easy to grab it to check if it is getting hot. But the fact is, after only a week, it should not be already having major problems. but then again, what do you expect from china made junk.

On a side note, I gave this one a try due to the fact that I had a different older model of theirs that lasted a few years with no problems, so I figured I would give them a try again. My older model was a N 150 wireless router, and was starting to do the same thing this one is doing, but the difference, it was a few years old, this one, a week.

All I can say is if this next one does not hold up at all, this will be my last purchase from TP-Link

I gave it 2 stars because when it did work, it did have good signal strength, plus, it was very easy to setup and use. if not for those things, it would have gotten a one star. the only real positive note to this purchase. Newegg is excellent at returning merchandise. guess I will be hooking up the old wireless router until I get the replacement. That one still works better then this new one.

5 out of 5 eggsA mighty little device

Pros: Ultra easy to set up.
So many ways to set it up (versatile).
Great range.
A real work horse of a router !! (A Wii U, PS4, 2 PC's, and 3 phones feeding off this thing and takes it like a champ).

Cons: No cons so far.

Other Thoughts: We'll see how long this device lasts under my abuse.
So far it is chewing up and spitting out anything I throw at it.
Very glad I chose this router.
Great performance for under $20.
You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works like a charm. Easy, easy, setup; nothing is fool proof, but this is close. Directions are even understandable! Highly affordable (on sale, with promo code & rebate). Well worth the cost even at full price. Really can't say enough good things about TP-Link routers.

Cons: Absolutely none.

Other Thoughts: Previous router also TP-Link; has worked flawlessly for as long as I have had it (several years, at least). Wanted something with better range, and possibly compliant with higher internet speeds. I am very pleased with this purchase.
