1 out of 5 eggsStay away from hardware version 3

Pros: I bought two of these access points from two different sellers. The one with hardware version 2 is absolutely perfect, blazing fast and incredibly simple to setup.

Cons: The second one arrived the next day and when I saw that it was a newer version I assumed it would be even better. I was completely wrong about that. Still simple to setup but the max download speed I could get was not even 1Mbps and that's very noticeable with a 50Mbps internet connection.

Other Thoughts: It really pains me to give this product one egg because version 2 was perfect and for only $25 it's unbelievable. However for TP-Link to redesign its hardware and then slap a newer version label on it is also unbelievable. Stay away from this piece of garbage unless you're lucky enough to find a version 2, its like gold in the pile of dirt that we call access points.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat basic access points

Pros: - PoE a huge plus
- Multiple SSID ability

Cons: 10/100 ethernet port only. Watch out for some of these "budget" access points that advertise 300Mbps or above, a lot of them do not have Gigabit ports. After noticing this minor detail, I will be migrating to a new AP with a Gigabit connection and using these AP's for our slower connections in other buildings.

Other Thoughts: Great price if you have an internet connection under 100Mbps. If have faster internet, look into an AP with a Gigabit ethernet port. This unit has a lot of features and is easy to setup.

5 out of 5 eggs

3 out of 5 eggsWeb Managment Interface Unstable

Pros: Supports passive PoE with included injection adapter. Decent range.

Cons: Web management interface stops responding after about one week. I have to either reset manually, or set the ping watchdog feature to ping a non-existent device with all the parameters at maximum, which causes auto reboot about every 24 hours. Given that I bought this as an AP on larger network, I need reliable remote access for management/configuration. Also this unit has single wired LAN port so can not daisy chain LAN wiring through this unit.

Other Thoughts: I haven't tried the multiple SSID's with VLAN support, but it sounds impressive. Doesn't seem TP Link posts many firmware updates.

5 out of 5 eggsWroks great

Pros: Easy set up.

Cons: Comes set on 192.168 network. If you aren't using this network you have to configure a device to talk to it. Not that big a deal.

Other Thoughts: Configured it and forgot about it. I would recommend.

5 out of 5 eggsTP-LINK TL-WA801ND Wireless N300 Access Point

Pros: Has been working flawlessly for about 5 months with not a single reset needed due to slow access or lockup.

Cons: A bit tricky to set up to configure a new base IP and setting the mode to access point, but that's probably due to my inexperience with AP's in general.

Resets for saving config changes take 80+ seconds to complete.

Other Thoughts: For newbies: To access this router's web GUI, be sure to disable WiFi and disconnect any LAN cable goingr from your PC to a regular router.

PC-to-PC large file transfer rate with a PC-AP-PC LAN connection is right around 200 GBytes/sec. When one of the PCs is WiFi-connected to my internet router and the other by LAN to the AP, large file transfer rate averages around 1.8MBytes/sec. "Your mileage *will* vary" due to your router's distance, obstructions, PC wireless adapter, etc.

4 out of 5 eggsWorking well as expected

Pros: These thngs were a breeze to configure. They worked flawlessly on POE, even though you must use the passive adapters, it is still great way to place remote AP's. There were put into a small Drs office environment and they love them. The VLAN aspect is great and it is fast. Perfect.

Cons: Passive POE, but not a deal breaker

4 out of 5 eggsGood value

Pros: Easy to setup. Dual antennas.

Cons: Power seems a bit weak. Having trouble with smartphones getting access to internet with it. They can connect to the ap but not the internet always.
