2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Easy installation since Windows 8.1 downloads drivers automatically.

Cons: I must be unlucky because this adapter gets half the download speeds of my much cheaper TP-WN781ND despite better specs and three antennas. I tried using many drivers and moving the antennas and it just can't beat a 15$ adapter. Now my computer is far from my router, so the connection isn't great, but I was expecting at least an improvement.

Other Thoughts: I'm getting a refund for this unit. Maybe it was just defective but I'm not going to waste time by getting a replacement that could be just as bad.

4 out of 5 eggsA definite buy!!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: The installation process was simple. It pulls 72 mbps thru walls at 25 feet away. Excellent reception!

Cons: I wish it was just a bit less expensive. But still well worth the money.

Other Thoughts: The guys at one of the big electronic stores only sold the USB plug and play type receivers. Said it was "just as good". Not! It streamed at 5mbps. This card streamed at 72.5mbps. It saved me from having to run a network wire across the house to the computer.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Has worked for my hackinstosh build on both mavericks and windows 7. Is not plug and play for Windows 7, you have to install the drivers of which you can download from a website and put them in a usb if you do not have a cd drive. IS plug and play for hackintosh, or at least it was for me using mutlibeast 6.5. Price is as it should.

Cons: Antennas if moved around slightly become unscrewed. This is the only con and the fact that they are big and 3 that make it hard to access the back peripherals of a mobo if placed in the top pcie slot. either way its not a deal breaker.

Other Thoughts: Great for Hackintoshers and regular desktop users who don't want to have all the cables that belong to a modem and router on your desk or room.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Works greats

Cons: website is down and won't allow you to get drivers for any product, lost CD cause family threw out box. I would not recommend to any of my friends or family members. had to reformat computer and was gonna try to install drivers for wireless card and TP-link website is completely down and isn't responding any of my computers or devices.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Easy to install
8.1 picked it up easily
drivers painless to install
Comes with low profile bracket
WORKS WITH LINUX AND AIRMON
pic-e
Works great if you're within a 20ft shot of the router(SAME FLOOR)

Cons: Intermittent disconnections
Doesn't work well if you're on another floor

Other Thoughts: The pro's somewhat outweigh the cons overall, but the disconnections seem to outweigh everything else. This product works great if you're right next to your router or on the same floor as it a few rooms away. I had little to no problems with it at my last house.

However in this new one it fluctuates between 1 and 3 bars and loves to cut in and out. I am one floor down, but only probably 30ft away from it.

Windows 8/8.1 picks up the card with ease and installs a driver from the middle of 2013. It works ok, nothing wrong with it per se, however the chipset maker for this card has a driver from 2014 at the beginning of the year. I find myself swapping between the one windows finds and the chipset one to get stables connections in a windows environment.

I took off 2 eggs for the tremendous hassle I've been through at this new place attempting to get a stable connection for gaming and skype, and I'm still not able to tell if it's the card or the router I am using. I have ordered another from the same company (different model though) and will be back to update my review.

This does however, work wonders for linux and those who are interested in testing wifi security as you can use airmon with this card

4 out of 5 eggsTp-Link N900 Dual Band Wifi

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: No extra power consumption
VERY easy install. litterally was plug in and play.
adjustable antennas
good range
decent connection for wifi

Cons: I have to admit. this was more of a let down for what i expected. but this was my first dedicated wifi card. i expected around 2 or higher mb a second. instead im hovering around what my old mobos integrated wifi did. 1.5. makes me wonder if it might just be somthing with my router because it is pretty horrible tbh. but for $40 compared to some others i would pay this little extra ( Or Very less)
for a easy product like this. the package was nice. the product had a nice quality feel. theres not much bad to say about it at all. i cant say why not to get it based on my very little wifi experience lol

Other Thoughts: Not as good as LAN?

Pros: Used over a year with no issues; however, my router is in the next room.

3 out of 5 eggsDO not get if you have W8.1

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: When it works, it works great.

Cons: WORST COMPATIBILITY ISSUES EVER WITH WINDOWS 8.1.
I Had to spend so much time messing around with the various drivers that made the 35$ I paid for this completely pointless. the usb dongle that came with my router worked better than this and I had to go and find drivers that did not even exist anymore to have that thing work.
