5 out of 5 eggsTL-WDN4800 pfSense

Pros: This is the first pci-e N speed card that really works in my pfSense box.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Due to the odd nature of my network I use one of these two cards to setup a wireless bridge between my pfSense box and my Sprint 4g wifi hotspot. They range anywhere between 50M to 130M. I have both setup as 802.11g under the interfaces configuration but seem to run at N speeds. I have not set either of the two I bought as an access point so can not comment on that.

Device: Ath0
Mode: MCS mode 11ng
Rate: 130M

Device: Ath1
Mode: MCS mode 11ng
Rate: 117M

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked for like a week.

Cons: Had a poor signal ever since I first installed it, even though my computer is close to my router. After a week or so, my internet got slower and would cut out periodically. Eventually this wifi card would stop picking up a signal completely, even though other wifi cards and laptop would connect to my router with a good signal at the same time. It is easy to find a good wifi card that works for cheaper than this wireless card, so save yourself regret, time and money and don't buy this card.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy, very unstable

Pros: -Fast and efficient when it works

Cons: This card is extremely unstable, the first day I had it, it worked fine and I installed all of the drivers and it was working perfectly. After that day everything went downhill. The card constantly fluctuates, meaning that one moment you might by getting 100mbs and then the next few seconds you are getting 1mbs. This makes online games unplayable because of all of the studdering caused by the fluctuation. I might have just gotten one of the rotten eggs out of the batch but it just doesn't work half of the time.

Other Thoughts: When I tried to contact TP-Link customer service from the telephone the call was immediately dropped hindering any hope of getting some technical support.

It is OK for browsing the web but a lot of times even YouTube videos are unwatchable.

I would not recommend this to anyone.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Card for the money.

Pros: Easy to install, works like it should and is plenty fast. ping, speedtest, and downloads all at the top of the scale.

Cons: Didn't install itself. :-D

Other Thoughts: I just moved into a house that had no CAT5 or CAT6 cable in the room i have my desktop setup in.
Using this with three Rosewill RNX-A5LX-EX - Detachable Indoor Omni-Directional Antenna - 2.4 GHz / 5 dB that are now on sale for $1.99 each.
Figured I try this before going through the trouble of snaking a cable. Link is running at 450 Mbps
Right now i don't feel like I'll need to run a cable this'll do just fine. Just downloaded 10 GB in ~11 minutes.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked Right Out Of The Box

Pros: Fast, Runs without Drivers (for me at least) Small and easy to install

Cons: The range isnt as good as my laptop's Wireless.

Other Thoughts: I really only deducted an egg for not being as good as my laptop wifi. but It does its job well. I still recomend purchasing this card.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice.

Pros: Easy install
Included update CD
Small and inconspicuous
Good speed

Cons: Detection strength could be better.

Other Thoughts: Works very well. Comes with it's own update CD, so as soon as you install the drivers, you can connect to the internet. Gives me four bars of signal strength, whereas my old laptop gives me five, but the router is on the opposite end of the house, and it doesn't lose connection, so I can't complain.

For those wondering, the connection speed to my router has been showing around 150 mbps, which is double what I got with the aforementioned laptop, so I'm very pleased. All my online games have been very smooth.

1 out of 5 eggsI got a dud

Pros: Plugs in and turns on

Cons: Takes 15 minutes to connect

Other Thoughts: Works nicely when it decides it wants to connect. Wont work at all with Windows Wireless Network utility. I had to connect with the TP-Link utility and even then it takes 15 minutes for the software to decide it wants to connect

2 out of 5 eggsNot good. Not good at all.

Pros: could be good for a low range wireless setup
easy to install

Cons: For the price, the performance is terrible. i have tried adapters half the price as this one and they perform way better. the speeds constantly fluctuated making internet unusable.

Other Thoughts: i bought this for a client who had a dell inspiron desktop but the built in wifi adapter wasnt cutting it. this doesnt perform better than what came in the dell. you would think that with 3 antennas, the range might be even a little better than a card lacking antennas.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We appreciate your review.

We are sorry to see that you are not getting the performance that you need out of this device.

If you haven't done so already then we would suggest that you upgrade the Driver from our website at: http://tplink.com/en/download/TL-WDN4800_V1.html#Driver

It is hard to determine why you are having some issues with this device, but some reasons that I've seen are due to the Desktop being too close to the wall and obstructing the signal.

This may happen when the Adapter is plugged between the Desktop and the wall and is getting a poor signal.

You may also want to try another PCI slot if you haven't done that either.

If there is any other Wireless configuration software running, then I would suggest removing it and only use the Windows wireless configuration.

If you find that this device has some issues then you may always contact our 24 hour technical support team for assistance.

We do have a 2 year manufacture RMA policy to replace the device if it may be defective.

Best Regards!

2 out of 5 eggsdid the job, not my first choice for pc gaming

Pros: it connected to wifi and found all my neighbor's wifi with eaz

Cons: Since I use my pc for games I care deeply for my ping and well,
It just sometimes decide to skyrocket form 50 ping to 600 whenever it feels like it

Also, After having it about 6 months, it became inoperable and I had to buy a new one.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to review our Adapter.

We are sorry to see that this device stopped working for you.

There are several things that we can try to trouble-shoot to get the optimal speed for your gaming.

If you are having any more issues and still use the WDN4800 then please feel free to contact our Technical support, we can help resolve any issues that you may be experiencing.

Best Regards!
