5 out of 5 eggsWorks on Windows 8.1

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Installation software worked first time. WIndows 8.x driver was loaded and TP-Link came up right away. I shut off Wifi on the same floor with this PC and card connected to Wireless access point on another floor and at the other end of the house, It locked in and gave good performance. I turned back on Wifi on same floor with PC and wireless performance was excellent. Great card for me!

Cons: A little more costly than some of the comparables but worth it since it seems to be very reliable.

Other Thoughts: My new favorite wireless adapter card

1 out of 5 eggsRMAs for days

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Worked well when it worked.

Cons: I bought two of these at one go. One was unable to detect or connect to a 5GHz connection out of the box. I contacted TP-Link support and they determined the device was defective. That was RMA #1. 3 weeks later, the other WDN4800 that I purchased started having connection issues. The connection would randomly drop and be unable to reconnect to networks despite power cycles and router resets to factory defaults. It would still sometimes connect to a 2.4GHz signal occasionally but was no longer able to connect to a 5GHz signal at all. There is RMA #2.

Other Thoughts: I'm waiting for my two replacements, I will update this if they are any better that the originals.

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: nothing.

Cons: Completely bad card, slow and down every 2-3 minutes every time playing games.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for the review.

We are sorry to see that you are having some issues with the speed.

I would suggest trying to upragde the driver for this device if you haven't done so already.

We have posted a new driver on our website about 3 months ago: http://www.tp-link.us/support/download/?model=TL-WDN4800&version=V1#tbl_a

If you have a second PCIe port then I would also suggest trying this to verify that the ports are okay.

Please feel free to email us directly if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfection

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Plugged in, turned on, connected straight away with Windows 8.1. No issues, no disconnects.

Easy to install.

I decided to ignore the terrible reviews on this product and i'm glad I did. This thing has given me personally no issues. I did not use the software provided, I just plugged it in and let windows do with it what it may and here I am...on a perfectly working internet connection.

Cons: None so far. I got what I paid for.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat performance for a decent price.

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Dual band (2.4Ghz/5GHz)
gets pretty good reception even in buildings with poor wireless signals
decent speeds.
pretty cheap for what you get.

Cons: No real cons.

Other Thoughts: I own two of these I have had 0 problems with them. (windows 7 and 8/8.1)
I wish they supported AC. but I guess I will have to buy a higher end adapter for that.
I have been using mine in conjunction with a WRT1900AC and everything is splendid

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth the effort

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Easy PCI-E, pop it in, screw in in the antennas, and done!

Cons: Windows 8.1, 64 Bit:
Tried four different drivers (Two TP-Link ones, Two Qualcomm Atheros ones) with two different routers both of which have multiple WiFi devices connected to them just fine.

No matter what combination, version, router, etc. I use, my connection is super flaky, can hardly stay connected for 5 minutes without 30 seconds+ of it trying to reconnect and work again.

I've actually switched back to my less-broken TP-Link USB WiFi dongle instead for now.

Other Thoughts: If anyone has any tips/recommendations on getting this working for windows 8.1 64 bit, I'm all ears, already tried many things with no luck.
