1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: None

Cons: * Weak signal in the room next to it - less than 25 feet from the router
* Signal keeps dropping

Other Thoughts: I have been using this router for about a year and have been very patient. I have tried everything that is suggested in this forum. Nothing works. I wasted so much time and it has caused only frustration. Wireless router I bought 12 years ago worked better. My humble opinion...stay away.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Looks good, ext. antennas. Seems to work very well I have a computer, printer and Verizon cell booster in the wired ports and they work very well. Fast wired connection.
Wireless connects very well but coverage could be better.

Cons: Wireless connects very well but coverage could be better. It's setting on a glass computer desk in a back room, first floor is not completely covered (2000sqft) home. Fair coverage in basement, about fair outside. I hoped for more

Other Thoughts: I would use this router again

1 out of 5 eggsterrible

2 out of 5 eggsshort range

Pros: Works - able to install DD-WRT. Lots of features.

Cons: Range is terrible. I have a 2200 sq ft house but this thing doesn't work well just a few rooms away. So disappointed I'm buying another router this week. The lights are so bright I had to cover them up with electrical tape. Also couldn't get my USB western digital drive to mount. Not sure if this is the router or my drive though. But DD-WRT instructions seem pretty complex for this common application.

3 out of 5 eggs5GHz has poor range

Pros: Able to flash with DD-WRT and expand router capabilities

Cons: 5GHz has poor range with stock software

Other Thoughts: May not want to purchase this unless you are comfortable flashing a wifi router with 3rd party DD-WRT sofrware.

1 out of 5 eggsDied quickly

2 out of 5 eggsWack! Drops signal

Pros: SUPER fast when it functioned properly.

Cons: Drops signal. When I would be typing up a blog post on WordPress, my cursor would suddenly disappear because the signal from the router would drop.

In addition, I was never able to get a strong signal. Even my ASUS N300 single band router has a stronger signal.

I flashed the firmware to the latest one and the router began to work better. The 5Ghz was FAST FAST FAST, but I could only get 1-2 bars and it would drop signal. The 2.4 Ghz would only get me 3 bars and that too would drop signal.

Other Thoughts: This product has awesome potential if they can make it to get stronger signal.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for checking out our Router.

We are glad to see that the 5GHz was fast for you.

In theory the 2.4 GHz will be able to have a longer range than the 5GHz; this is because lower frequencies have longer ranges than higher frequencies.

Flashing the firmware as you have done is a good idea and something that we highly suggest.

You can control the TX power in the Advanced section of the Router, and setting it to max power should allow for a longer range.

If you would like to contact our 24 hour technical support team, then we can try to work with you to help resolve any issues that you may have.

You can also feel free to contact me directly at howard.he@tp-link.com.
