1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Its a very thin attractive laptop, sufficient power.
lots of monitor attachments
SSD/HDD combo

Cons: KEYBOARD BROKEN within 4 months
its almost half the keys that are not working, it still lights up.
Cannot run with the lid closed as it must be open for cooling

Other Thoughts: I would give it 5 stars if it had a working keyboard.

Cannot get tech support, it will not take serial number for registration, you cannot get through on the phone, they did not answer emails

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for gaming but keyboard is not very sturdy.

Pros: Great computer for gaming but I also use it for school. Size is great for the screen and it is very fast

Cons: They could use a more sturdy keyboard. It is six months later and the "s" doesn't work on the keyboard anymore. My brother got a similar laptop prior to college and had a similar problem with keys going bad during the first year.

1 out of 5 eggsFast and lightweight laptop, poor keyboard usability

Pros: Fast and quiet, nice display, lightweight laptop.

Cons: After one month of ownership, the biggest con I can state is that the space bar behaves inconsistently when you press it on the sides, it only reacts properly when you press it by the middle leading to re-typing, which denotes poor usability and quality assurance. It negatively affects productivity when it comes to typing and I would not recommend this model if this behavior is present throughout this laptop series. If mine is an isolated issue and MSI solves it, I may consider changing this review.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent High Power Laptop

Pros: Great laptop all around - While it may seem like it has a huge amount of bloatware when you first get it - it's actually not - they are all hardware related programs for managing the multiple graphics cards, RAID setup, the LED backlight colors for the keyboard, etc.

It has a great cooling setup and power saving settings (e.g it Almost always uses the integrated when not playing games for lower battery use). I get a solid 4-6 hours of work on it done while running Virtual Machines, Wireshark, and other various programs, while getting roughly 90min - 2 hours of intense game-play (I'm basing this off the newest batman on max graphics). I have yet to be able to get the graphics temp to really push past 80, and I have REALLY tried - with benchmarks, pushing graphic limits and doing all this on multiple monitors.

The wireless card in the Gs70 outranks anything I have seen recently, supports promiscuous and sports an antenna with a ridiculous range.

Cons: The touch-pad.... It is honestly not that terrible but definitely room for improvement and could have been better, but I have used much, much worse - not bad enough for me to take away an egg.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth the money, AWESOME.

Pros: Great laptop! I used this to replace my old desktop that needed upgrading and wanted something i could use for gaming and something that i would take with me anywhere for school and such. This is a great laptop especially for the price. It handles everything i could possibly want to run and then some. The boot times are extremely fast thanks to the SSD, the graphics are amazing and the colors this thing displays are deep and rich. The cooling system would be awesome for users who regularly use it as an actual "lap" top because it angles the heat comming out up at a 45 degree angle so you dont cook yourself while using it which is a nice touch. It runs EXTREMELY quiet even when your gaming. the battery life is amazing for a laptop of this magnitude when running in a power saving mode. Simply turn the "backlight" down all the way and i get up to seven hours of life when im just browsing the web or using word or study software and you can adjust these with the press of a button right from your keyboard with the function key. When gaming however it gets cut significantly due to the computer pumping out all the extra power to enjoy your games to their fullest. Also its SO THIN i was suprised when i got it how compact it was for all of the hardware its packing. On top of everything else this machine is extremely sleek and looks great, rocking 4 usb ports, HDMI ports, basicly every hookup you could want you got it. The killer lan chip in this thing actually helps me get even faster speeds from my internet than my isp gives me I pay for 60 mbps and when i test it im regularly getting 65 even up to 70. I love this thing I would reccomend this laptop to anyone who wants a really solid gaming machine with the portability of a laptop at a great price.

Cons: The integrated track pad can be a little weird sometimes, but i use it as a thin client on my desk so i dont run into this problem, but somone probably will. also I HATE the tiles in windows 8, however with a little know how you can set up your rig to boot to the desktop. Another thing some people may miss is that THERE IS NO DISK DRIVE so if you have things you want to install off of a cd you will need to go but an external drive(20-30$) not a big deal but definitly an extra step, with those things in mind i gave it 4 stars.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid mobile workstation & development machine

Pros: Quad core processor with Hyper V, so it looks like 8 logical processors. Solid state primary drive for fast boot and program launch times. Light. Thin. Sharp 17" 1920x1080 display. Decent sound system. Customizable backlit keyboard. Full num pad. 4+ hours of battery even when running demanding apps and programs.

Almost $1,000 cheaper than comparable brands, considering what you get.

Cons: Comes with Windows 8, but you can immediately upgrade to 8.1 for free from the Windows Store (after you do Windows Update for the first time). Scroll pad takes getting used to. Start button moved from left side of keyboard to right. Home/End keys require FN button. Indicator lights on front right (HD/WiFi/Bluetooth/etc) are really bright. No DVD/CD drive. Ventilation and power plug seem odd (but it never runs hot).

Other Thoughts: I needed a solid development machine, since the demands for hardware are similar to gaming. I can run the Windows Azure emulator with multiple deployments, several Visual Studio instances, Outlook, Word, and multiple browser windows at once, and it never slows down. Incredible. You can occasionally hear the fans pick up, but it cools quickly.

I had to get used to the missing DVD drive, but Windows makes it really easy to mount ISOs.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome laptop

Pros: ► awesome keyboard
► slim profile
► Good sound
► powerful specs
► Killer Wireless, LAN, bluetooth
► Boots up in five sec
► superfast
► MSI logo at the back

Cons: ► Didn't like the screen
► Temperature maintenance is not so good
► Not so quite
► gtx765 only works on demand while playing games otherwise the laptop just uses intel graphics
► spacebar: it needs pressing from the center or else it just don't work
► windows button on the right side
► too many bloatware

Other Thoughts: ► keypad works fine after patching and disabling the edge swipes
► Faced black screen of death after updating the drivers and windows from 8 to 8.1. Had to run in safe mode to resolve it
► sound blaster failed to pick up the sound device after updating

It is a very nice laptop although not as light as i expected. The resolution is nice and the applications run fast and smooth. Initially I faced many problems with the OS but got it resolved myself with some troubleshooting

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop!

Pros: Thin design, solid construction, and very fast.

Cons: Touchpad needed adjustment, and a driver update, but works good now. It does take a little getting used to. The Elan touchpad doesn't seem to be as intuitive as Synamtics touchpads are, but I'm flying along with it now. The unit should ship with the updates installed in my opinion.

Other Thoughts: I own a computer repair company, and I bought this for personal use to replace my gaming workstation and home computing needs. I immediately updated the laptop to Windows 8.1 and started work on the touchpad. Disabling taps is the real key to getting it to function halfway normal. The taps (tapping to emulate mouse clicks) are too sensitive. Even moving the mouse makes things open/close. I can see where the touchpad might be a little maddening to figure out for users who aren't a bit tech savvy. But then again, this is the kind of unit that gets purchased by tech savvy people more often than not. The touchpad is perfectly fine now with a few easy adjustments from the control panel, and I'm extremely happy with its performance. Even under heavy load, it doesn't seem to overheat.

The hardest part of everything I had to do was navigate MSI's website for drivers. Drivers are not easy to find there.

5 out of 5 eggsAn awesome form factor does an awesome job

Pros: - The screen is fantastic. It's matte screen is bright, vibrant, and giant. I've seen complaints about colors, but I think they're nitpicking. It looks great and that's what matters.
- Keyboard is very responsive and the backlit keys go a long way for a "wow" factor.
- Runs games at medium/high quality without any sputtering. This isn't a top of the line desktop, but you're not missing much detail on it.
- Form factor is incredible. Very thin. Big, but thin and sturdy. Hinge is strong.

Cons: - The trackpad is infuriating. It isn't that it doesn't work - it's that the settings are so hard to get right. Your track pad is automatically disabled when typing and I had to go into my regedit to change it WHILE using settings in both Metro and Desktop mode to get it to work. This was really frustrating when all I wanted to do was play games where I walk and move the camera.
- Battery life is subpar. Absolutely and totally subpar, but not a deal breaker.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Powerful. Excellent screen. Light weight. Thin. Fast. Very very mobile.

Cons: Track pad is terrible. Multi-touch on the track pad doesn't work at all! I have all the options set correctly, downloaded the latest track pad firmware and software and it just doesn't work. That wouldn't be a big deal except there's no way to scroll with the pad, you have to use the arrow keys or click and drag the scroll bar. On a laptop that costs well over $1,500 it is inexcusably awful.

Windows 8 works on tablets, not on non-touchscreen laptops with broken track pads. It's just frustrating. There are ways to get 8 to act like 7 but you have to pay for it. You could downgrade 8 to 7 but that requires Windows 8 Pro and this comes with Windows 8 Basic.

You really have to press hard on the shift key to get it to register. The keyboard, even though boasted as a good keyboard, is not very good. It feels pretty cheap and some keys don't work well at all.

There are extremely bright white LEDs shining out of the front of the laptop and you can't turn them off or dim them at all. Easy to fix with a bit of electrical tape but they're just stupid. Why are they there? Why do they have to blind me in the middle of the night?

Other Thoughts: This is a great laptop for mobile gaming. It plays all the latest and greatest at great frame rates and everything it does is very fast. The hardware is well put together in this small form factor. I love how mobile it is.

These few cons that I've listed are avoidable, I don't know why MSI didn't notice them when making this laptop. It is so close to being perfect, it's just being let down by a company that doesn't seem to want to go the extra QA step for it to be great. When you're gaming, you'll love it. When you're doing anything else, it'll annoy the hell out of you.
