5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Good price. Serial port.

Cons: It's a Dell, but that's not the seller's fault. :)

Other Thoughts: I received a laptop that looked brand new. I had an issue with the battery (wouldn't hold a charge) and emailed the seller, had a new battery within 3 days. Excellent service.

3 out of 5 eggsEhhhn.. so-so

Pros: Low cost, light weight and fast. Easy to change out the multimedia bay drive, as well as hard-drive

Cons: Screen brightness is very dim, even at maximum (Biggest complaint I got from the main user of the laptop)

No adjustable saturation control for the screen display outside of video playback (which leaves the picture very bland)

Memory has only 1 slot accessible*

No grounding pin on the power adapter**

Other Thoughts: Upgrading the memory leaves *much* to be desired, firstly, the "void warranty" sticker is placed right over the panel which houses the memory slot, which is rather stupid (that or greedy) basically voiding your warranty if you feel you need more than 2GB of RAM

*Secondly, you can only access one stick of RAM (the other apparently is burried on the top-side of the motherboard, which means you'd have to take apart the laptop and remove at least the keyboard to access it) which is rather a large design flaw.

It also states that there is a 4GB maximum for memory, whether due to hardware limitation or software (comes pre-installed with windows 7 32-bit, which I tossed in an old 250GB hard-drive with a 64-bit installation on it)

Also, if you want to upgrade the DVD drive, you have to get one with Dell's proprietary connector, as modern SATA-based drives will not plug in.

** As another user stated: the power adapter supplied to me with only had 2-prongs which means it's not grounded, but the actual adapter itself is a genuine dell adapter, which also only has 2-pin jack, which leads me to think it's Dell that didn't choose to include the option to ground the power supply, as opposed to the reseller.

For someone who casually uses this for email and surfing it's a decent laptop, for a power-user or someone like me who builds his own computers, absolutely not.

1 out of 5 eggsWouldn't bite on this...

Pros: Affordable...but there's a reason.

Cons: I wouldn't bite on this if I were you. Part of the family that's got severe problems with the video. So unless the "refurbishment" means they replaces with all Intel graphics, I would NOT bite on this. I got burned on two D620s with this issue. If you Google this you will find it falls under the class action lawsuit that happened with these models.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Laptop, Bad QA

Pros: The laptop works great for what we need at a very reasonable price. I use a lot of these in the field for various calibrators and testing equipment.

Cons: On my most recent order, I received a power supply with a missing ground pin, that would also not charge. There was a letter inside stating that Discount Laptop should be contacted with any issues, I e-mailed them with my issues and they sent out a "new" battery. Needless to say that this hasn't helped with my particular issue.

Other Thoughts: I understand that refurbs are not brand new laptops and may have quirks. That does not excuse sending out a power supply completely missing the ground pin, that also does not charge.
