4 out of 5 eggslenovo U310 - updated to 8.1

Pros: price ($400 black friday factory refurb. unit), touch screen, thin, and good size screen, great for everyday business use, NOT for gaming or photoshop rendering (don't expect desktop speeds).

Cons: short battery life, reflective screen (shows all finger prints & difficult to read in full sunlight), a bit heavy for an ultrabook (over 4lbs). difficult to open w/o finger nails (no lid indentation to pop the unit open

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from an aspire one w/2gb and a ssd so this is a vast improvement. This is going to be my travel laptop; so the weight & battery life is a bit of an issue (< 4 hrs. at my current settings). Great purchase overall and haven't experienced the wifi or bluetooth issue at home, work, or out in the field. When upgrading to 8.1 BEWARE, there are updated 8.1 specific drivers on the lenovo web site; even though MS windows 8.1 will tell you that you've got the latest drivers. Your system will be unstable

3 out of 5 eggsLenovo laptop WiFi issue

Pros: Lightweight
Touch screen
Decent Battery Life

Cons: Touchpad gets stuck
Max RAM is 4gb

Other Thoughts: After talking Lenovo support they mentioned the Wi-Fi in windows 8 has some issue and advised to update driver by visiting the link http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/wireless.

Hope this helps. Please post if it fixes the issue.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price, but has flaws.

Pros: I've had this laptop for almost two months now and I've noticed a few recurring issues with the laptop, but most if it you could really justify because you're trading specs for the quality of build at this price.

- Definitely a good buy for the price,

- Has an i5

- Lightweight

- 13 inch display that's pretty clear

- Very snappy with average use, but really struggles when trying to run any game

- Keyboard feels nice to type on and the touchscreen works very well. I didn't plan on using it, but with Windows 8 it's so smooth and often works really well with the UI.

The specs on paper are pretty good and it performs well, especially for the price.

Cons: - Has a good bit of flex to pretty much every surface. When typing I can visibly see the panel around the keys flexing. When grabbing the laptop you can feel and see the casing flex. The build quality really isn't all that high.

- The touchpad randomly crashes or freezes at points just from normal use. I'm aware there is a button that disables the touchpad and that is definitely not the issue.

- Battery life isn't amazing, but again, it's a 13 inch ultrabook with an i5 for $600. The pricing is really the selling point on this.

- The WiFi is kind of spotty. I often find myself unable to connect whereas others have no issues getting a connection. Not sure if that's a network or hardware issue, but it is a recurring even with this ultrabook so I feel it's worth a mention.

Other Thoughts: While there are a good bit of flaws with this laptop, it's a pretty good buy. You get what you pay for and so far the U310 is a pretty good bang for your buck. If you can spare the money I would try and get the next model up. The higher-tier lenovo ultrabooks often offer the same, if not better, specs but have a much better build quality.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy!

Pros: Beautiful design

Cons: horrible wifi, Google "U310 wifi" and you will see how many people like me got suckered by a pretty face

1 out of 5 eggsDo not purchase. Bad WiFi

Pros: Beautiful looking, very responsive, bluetooth

Cons: The WiFi card on this thing is defective. Search "lenovo u310 wifi" and you'll stumble onto a 70+ page thread started in 2012 about how the WiFi is bad. Lenovo doesn't help and talking with tech support, acknowledges it's a defect in the device. Unfortunate they still sell a product like that.

Other Thoughts: dont buy purchase another ultrabook. if you plan on staying in the same room as the router youll be fine. other than that get ready for some incredibly low internet speeds.

1 out of 5 eggsNo WiFi!!!

Pros: Good food tray, coffee cup mat, nice and shiny

Cons: No WiFi. Lenovo is glad to charge you $90 to fix it.

Other Thoughts: Useless shiny box. No WiFi. If you are planning to use the laptop via WiFi and not happy to pay Lenovo $90 per customer service call buy a different laptop, that has WiFi and warranty.
It is not expensive for a shiny food tray.

5 out of 5 eggsValue for $$

Pros: Good-looking laptop
It's Lenovo/Thinkpad - so it's good

Cons: Flexy keyboard (but it works fine)
Vertical viewing angles are so-so

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a value laptop in the 500-700 range, you can't do much better than this one. (Look for deals, you can grab 'em in the low 500s occasionally.) It's fast enough, good-looking enough, fully-featured enough... It doesn't smash any records, but-hey-it's barely over 500 bucks.

I have not experienced any wi-fi troubles. Occasionally upon waking from sleep, touchpad scrolling doesn't work--probably a driver issue. Not too big of a deal.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Computer

Pros: This really is a solid computer. It is not a powerhouse, but for taking on the road, checking your e-mail and average use, it has enough power. The HDMI out is a great feature, and the touch screen almost makes Windows 8 work. Battery life is acceptable, and it seems to do a good job with dissipating heat.

Cons: Windows 8 is not intuitive. Most of the tools that an average to slightly above average user would need are buried, and the desktop vs home screen still doesn't seem logical to me. However, that isn't really the computer, rather the OS. The computer could probably use another couple gigabytes of RAM, but if you are only checking e-mail and browsing the internet, it is plenty.

Other Thoughts: This doesn't have an optical drive, which is not really a pro or a con. It just is something to keep in mind. If you like watching DVDs or BluRays on your computer, this is probably not the machine for you.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst online retail experience from online retailer

Pros: Defective product

Cons: Defective product - memory 50 % use even at idle time. Lenovo confirmed it is hardware issue and get replacement from Newegg - but newegg wont replace until they test and satisfy - i have to wait for another 10 days now. I am not sure what extra expert technicians newegg has than Lenovo

Other Thoughts: Worst customer support experience. I was ready to pay for the next piece so that can test the defective one and confirm and refund later. They are not ready for it. Never shop from here if you cant wait for 10 days.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Inexpensive Ultrabook

Pros: -Fast
-Light
-Thin
-Great Looks
-Solid Keyboard
-Runs Cool

I'm getting around 6 hrs of battery life using 30-40% brightness with typical random web use. Touchpad is large and responsive. Touchscreen seems to work fine, though I really use it only to scroll webpages. I would purchase again.

Cons: -Windows 8
-Touch pad does not have dedicated buttons and the touch surface continues into the "pressure surface" for the buttons. Some may found that a positive, I accidently perform dual touch actions often.
-Keyboard flexes a tiny bit when typing. Not sure what the net effect will be over time, but I share the concern of other reviews.

Other Thoughts: For the price asked, this is a wonderful product. I'm not having any wifi issues, leading me to believe its either router specific or people overreacting due to previous issues acknowledged by Lenovo. Speedtest results were 0ms ping, 30mbps down, and 5mbps up. Been downloading my software a solid 3 walls/floors away from my router with no problems. It fit my wishlist perfectly - thin, light, cool running, battery life, and decently powerful. It is sharp atheistically to boot. I have multi GPU, liquid cooled desktops if I want to game; the gaming laptop I purchased was a complete waste.

Note: My wife purchased a U410 at the same time as I purchased this and does not have wifi issues either. Another reason I believe it is either router related or bad luck.

This is a wonderful product if you have the proper expectations. If it fits your needs, enjoy.
