2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great Screen, Great Specs. Build seems strong.

Cons: After about 7 months it completely died while playing Medieval Total War. Very expensive to return and fix. Hdmi has been buggy although I hear that is an intel problem. Touch pad is awful but fine if using external mouse.

2 out of 5 eggsHorrible customer service

Pros: good performance...when it works

Cons: faulty parts

Other Thoughts: Horrible repair quality. Had to send back for repairs (dead HDD and bad keyboard). just got it back and now the HDD is STILL dead and the keyboard repair person must have missed a screw...the back plating is bowed out. Now they want me to send it back for another "two week estimated" evaluation of the repairs needed. Asked if they would test it for me before sending it back, which they responded, "if it doesnt work, we can waive the fee to send it back again". not a satisfied customer :/

1 out of 5 eggstoo good to be true...

Pros: Great price, great hardware, great looks, sturdy feel.

Cons: Cannot run any games or graphic intensive programs without crashing or overheating!

Wireless card randomly disconnects all the time.

Buggy touchpad.

Bloatware.

Other Thoughts: It's so sad that that using the graphics card will cause the laptop to fail. The graphics card is the only real reason i bought this specific laptop.

Acer support says this laptop was not defective yet it was discontinued after only a few months of sale...

5 out of 5 eggsOverall Great Laptop - Recommended

Pros: +Very good hardware for the price (i7, gtx760m)
+Powerful
+Excellent build quality
+Easy to open and access the internals
+Great display
+One of the best laptop keyboards I have ever used
+More of an 'elegant', low profile design compared to a lot of other gaming laptops.

Cons: -Some of the worst bloatware I have ever seen
-Fingerprint magnet
-Driver support for Windows 7 is definitely lacking
-No backlit keyboard (I personally don't care, I know some people will though)
-5400rpm hdd (good for storage, but I recommend installing an SSD as well)

Though it has these problems it is very difficult to take away any rating due to just how powerful this laptop is for the price. Thankfully the cons that matter the most are easily remedied.

Other Thoughts: I'm constantly traveling for work and wanted a fairly powerful laptop to take with me. I also wanted a desktop replacement since my old one was getting outdated and just recently fried due to an electrical surge. Originally I just wanted something for Unity, Photoshop, and light gaming. I was looking at less powerful Acer Aspires and various Lenovos. While the Lenovo y500/y510s are great I personally did not want to deal with SLI. The 'cheaper' Aspires had significantly worse hardware and were not that much cheaper. It was easy to justify $200-$300 more for way superior hardware that the 772g provides.

This Acer was the best priced laptop I could find with a single gtx760m and i7. This thing does great with games. It is running Skyrim on ultra with native resolution without breaking a sweat. Doesn't even blink with Photoshop or Unity. I am not having a problem with the integrated and gtx760m switching like a previous reviewer mentioned. It transitions smoothly and you are even able to choose what uses dedicated or integrated via the Intel and Nvidia GPU software.

Addressing the touch-pad complaints; I personally use a mouse so I just disable it (Fn+F7). I did use the touch pad for a little while since I have heard the complain before. I personally had no issue with it. Maybe it is how I type but I'm sure it is a case by case basis. I recommend trying it out before you buy if you would consider it a deal breaker.

One thing that I heavily recommend doing is to either immediately install Windows 7 or do a fresh install of Windows 8. While I can live with Windows 8, the one the laptop come with installed has massive amounts of bloatware. The bloatware is cripples the performance of the laptop, it is absolutely crazy. Don't even think about it, just do a fresh OS install right away.

If you do 'downgrade' to Windows 7 be prepared for bad driver support. You can pretty much get everything working, it will just take a little time. I noticed a good amount of the Windows 8 drivers actually worked with Windows 7.

Other than that there is an extra hard drive slot, install a SSD and enjoy. I'm very happy with this purchase.

4 out of 5 eggsGood laptop

Pros: Fast laptop, good specs. Added SSD to it and have sub 7 second boot time. Keyboard is decent and the laptop looks professional

Cons: Laptop comes with two hard drive spaces, yet no 2.5 inch caddy. I guess I will have to get into contact with acer to find the right caddy so I can add the initial harddrive back into the computer as a storage bin. Complete and total hassle. A laptop with extra hard drive spaces that is over 500 bucks should have a 10 dollar metal caddy.

Other Thoughts: Great laptop, but I now have to sift through Acer's website to find a caddy.

4 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire V3 772G Review

Pros: -Good i7 processor for laptop
-Good build quality
-Decent speakers
-Great keyboard
-Easy to expand/install new hardware
-Good GPU
-Good Funtion key layout

Cons: -1TB HDD is 5200rpm vs 7200rpm
-Only 6 cell battery (9 would be better for a power machine style laptop)
-Keyboard not backlit
-Touchpad a bit large
-Integrated left and right click buttons with touchpad
-The arrow keys are small
-Keyboard is lower than palm rest/touchpad
-Sound jack is too loud; have to listen to music with headphone on 10% volume

Other Thoughts: This is a fast and good laptop for the price. Got this and a SSD for under $1,000. Would work great for moderate gaming and drafting/video editing/photoshop. Pros definitely outweigh the Cons. If your looking for a laptop in the $1200-1300 range this would be a great way to safe some money.

1 out of 5 eggsGPU Not what you think

Pros: Decent Cpu, second drive bay, expandable to 32gb ram

Cons: It uses a 128mb dedicated ram Integrated GPU for nearly everything, Nvidia rarely kicks on. It does have a area where you can choose programs to be ran by the Nvidia GPU instead of the cheezy Integrated GPU that makes everything else sluggish. If you are a online gamer which there over 150 million Flash Based die hard gamers out there...Do Not Buy this thinking wow a Big Bad GPU, the Nvidia GPU is a secondary GPU in this unit and will not kick on for Browser based, Flash Based, and many other games...instead you will have to use the primary GPU which Acer accidently left out of all their stats and specs on this laptop. If you have this laptop and have got some low FPS in many games...that is your reason why. It will not use the Beefy GPU rarely ever. There is no software for you to switch from the integrated gou to the beefy Nvidia GPU either, so your just stuck. To me this is a huge flaw, and most certainly something Acer should of included in their specs.. They super Imposed Nvidia 4gb dedicated ram, and didnt even add the tiny print that says "as a back up or secondary GPU, the primary your stuck with a little integrated gpu that you will regret ever buying. :-)

Other Thoughts: Create a program to switch to the Nvidia GPU or recall the things!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value...

Pros: Easy expandability, good processor and video card.

Cons: The usual Windows 8 gripes but not really an issue after you get used to it. I wish Acer threw in a backlit keyboard at this price point.

Other Thoughts: Really the best bang for your buck (at $899). A Haswell chip with HD 4600 and a GTX 760M at this price is a good deal. I don't really game but I played demos of Mass Effect 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic just to see how well the graphics worked. Both played fine with ultra setting in 1080p.

I'll mainly be using this for ArcGIS, Citilabs Cube/Voyager transportation modeling, video editing and encoding, Open Office suite, and an occasional game. I will probably throw in some extra RAM, an SSD and maybe Blu-ray down the road. You can get them included for a little more but the component quality isn't as good if you pick the parts yourself. The design of this laptop allows easy access to add RAM, a second hard drive, or an mSATA SSD. I may also replace the wifi card. Newegg has them for $20 which will add WiDi capability...

1 out of 5 eggsLacking, Awkward, & Buggy....

Pros: - LOVE the Crystal/Gloss screen...
I just don't understand why manufacturers are so obsessed with Matte screens. People don't really want or need matte screens. They are fine distance, but not up close, terrible viewing, colors. Who wants to look through your screen door for hours? The reflection isn't even noticed unless you are in direct sun, and who does that? Few.... A person simply can't find a gaming laptop with a Gloss display, makes me mad.

- Loved most of the features.

- Loved got it on sale for $899. Of course, will end up spending $150-250 more to replace it because I can't find features for the price with a glossy screen! :(

Cons: - Bad wireless card....
Disconnects regularly. Did everything to try and fix it, re-install drivers, found an updated driver at some foreign website, seemed to have helped, wouldn't stay disconnected as long, but still occurred every few minutes.
When I reported it, they did indicate it's a known issue.

BTW, I had the same problem with Lenovo y410p (seems to occur with the y510p also), even different card. So, I've returned two laptops now!!! :(

- Bad Webcam...
Supposed to be HD 720p but, it was more like the grainy from 10-15 years ago webcams. I even have a 7 year old plugin one that is 10 times more clear. What is wrong with the quality control these days?

- Bad USB Port design....
I don't know why so many makers are putting all the USB ports up in the front side. You plug anything in, they are completely in the way, and you risk breaking them and your plugs. Makes it harder to move the laptop front and back, and again, in the way of hands when typing. USB ports should be in the side back. If you want to have one in the front (best right front side) for easy access, then fine, but the rest should be in the back side.

- Poor Touchpad design....
The thing is too huge, you are always accidentally touching it when typing etc. Also, the right and left click buttons should have a separator from the pad and each other, easier to use.

- Keyboard needs to be moved some to the right, because with such a large laptop it's hard to keep it centered for easy typing. I also thinks keys should have a small "curve" to them, not these "flat" keys everyone is using these days. Keys should form to our fingers. I also think they should be heavier. Basically, I prefer the keys from my old Acer Aspire 5515.

Other Thoughts: I had hopes for this laptop because my current Acer Aspire 5515 Wallyworld special $500 6 years ago laptop that I put XP on to make much faster (had Vista, but now slow for today's websites and browsers) has been a champ. No problems at all.

I didn't really want to get the Acer, because I didn't like the front side USB ports, but I compromised for the price (on sale), and was ordering a couple of angled usb connectors to fix the problem as a work around, but, with a bad wireless card and bad webcam, which I bet they wouldn't claim is bad and even if they fixed the wireless, I would still have a bad webcam, so, I just didn't want more hassle.

Hope I can find a glossy equivalent, but not much luck yet save Toshiba but sadly has a lower video card GT 740. Everywhere else that has good priced laptops are almost all Matte screens!!! :( Asus might have something that might work, but it's an all "grey" laptop! I swear, just can't win!
