5 out of 5 eggsFills Any Room With Good Sound

Pros: - impressive sound quality
- tight, clean bass
- three audio inputs
- solid construction
- attractive but unobtrusive style
- headphone mode allows use of volume knob

Cons: - no mounting option
- not easily user-serviceable

Other Thoughts: For the price, the sound is fantastic. The impressive volume these can produce is more than adequate for any computer desk or small home theater setup, filling my modest apartment.

The sound is likely not to audiophile standards - Logitech computer speakers have always seemed to favor an attention-grabbing combination of deep, felt bass and crisp highs, which is great for in-store demos of the sort which sold me on this unit but not necessarily faithful from an engineer's perspective. But be honest here - if you're looking at this type of product, you are probably seeking that sort of music experience, along with intense gaming sound and podcast voices that you feel in your chest. There is very little noise present even at high volumes, so long as your setup is properly grounded. For this product category, the sound is among the best, and the value is certainly great.

I didn't know it at the time of purchase, but the Z623 has three audio inputs (1x RCA + 2x 3.5mm) with an integrated mixer, allowing them to be used simultaneously. This has come to be my favorite feature. At my desk, I have it connected to three computers simultaneously (Linux, Windows, and XBMC media center). This product makes it possible to get great sound out of everything at once, switching from a movie in XBMC, to music on Ubuntu, to games on Windows, all without moving any wires around.

My only complaint is that, unlike my last set of Logitech speakers, this model has no mount points for affixing the speakers to a wall. This is a disappointment for me, but I can't take any points off for it, as this is not something most shoppers would reasonably demand from this product category. It wasn't something I was looking for while shopping either.

5 out of 5 eggsYou don't need surround sound, You Need These.

Pros: The Sound.
---Plain and simple, it is amazing. If you're one of those guys who wants it crazy loud (bass and/or treble), these will do the job and everything will still sound crystal clear. If they don't do the job, you either need hearing aids or will be needing them soon.

I however, do not like my music very loud and too much bass gives me a headache (but I had to try it out a few times). I love these speakers for the great quality of sound they give. While I don't like the bass thumping at my brains, I do like the bass you can feel in your chest. As long as you don't have neighbors close-by or attached to the same building as you, this bass is great. It really adds dynamic to action movies (assuming the movie maker mixed it so that the bass that wrecks your head isn't also amplified).

Besides the Sound.
---Since this is a 2.1, a lot of people are likely to use it on a desk setup (as I do), and I really like the size of the speakers. Not too big that they get in the way, but big enough to do a great job.
---There is a volume control as well as a separate bass control. I really like this. If it is getting late, I can easily mix out the bass with a turn of the knob so that I don't disturb the neighbors. No software needed, just a quick easy solution.
---There are some reeeaally nice rubbery pads on the bottom of the desk speakers to stop them from sliding around. I say "reeeaally" nice b/c at first when I picked up the speaker after using it for a while and they were kinda dusty, and I thought, "oh great, these are going to be a pain to clean"... one stroke of a wet cloth later and there wasn't a single piece of dust remaining! Good as new!
---Personally I really like the style of these. They aren't obnoxious or distracting, but when you look at them you can tell they're high quality.

---These do have holes for inputting music via an iPod or other similar device as well as output for headphones. I liked the idea of that, as it seemed convenient, but I haven't used either. I just use my computer for the music, and you won't catch me using headphones and wasting the potential of these amazing speakers! *I did just think of something, literally just now -_- ... I'm not sure if it works, but the headphone slot would be useful to me if I could only just use it for a microphone jack to save me from going the distance to my tower. Depends if it is for both or just one though. Next time I'm using a mic I may have to try it if I remember. So put that in as a "con" if you wish, but it doesn't concern me, I simply thought I'd mention it.

Cons: Only a couple of very, very small "cons".

The speakers are pretty sturdy, however, the front-to-back could use a bit more stability. (No, they're not going to fall/tip over on you unless you throw something at them or yank the cord). Perhaps a wider bass would solve that.

After using these for a year the inside is a little dusty. They appear to be able to be taken apart via an Allen Wrench on the front, but I have not tried it since it isn't too bad and I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to them.

Other Thoughts: The "First from Asia" thing was not on these when I bought them a year ago. That logo always makes me wary of a product... Plus it is a lot more expensive. If that goes away and these come back to the price they've been for quite some time ($130-$140ish), then I would hands down recommend these speakers to anybody who was in the market for some new ones.

5 out of 5 eggsBass In Your Face

Pros: This system has epic bass, even with the bass knob in the middle. And these get very loud, very quickly. The THX certification is a warning in its own right. They know loudness, and this system has it.

Side input/output ports are super convenient for shortly-wired headphones like mine. I think they also have some kind of mechanism that prevents the undesirable "pop" that is usually caused by plugging/unplugging TRS connectors.

Dials/knobs feel resistive and reliable.

Way better than the silver Dell 2.1 speakers I had before.

Cons: The cable leading into the right hand speaker (with all the controls) is pretty short. If you use this on the computer desk, you'll probably be okay. Those wanting to use these for tall entertainment centers might not be able to center the sub.

The volume is very touchy on the low end. But this is hardly a con; how else can you fit so much volume on such a tiny dial?

Not recommended for apartments, or dorms. Unless you want either angry neighbors, or unused potential.

Other Thoughts: There can be some distortion and clipping at super high volumes, but overall the sound is crisp and deep.

These speakers lack in high treble I think. Some kind of equalizer will solve this though.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Sound for the Money

Pros: Price, performance, looks (subjective)

Cons: RT speaker cable is a VGA style plug. probably a problem if it goes bad. Also thick, hard to route.

Other Thoughts: Overall very nice speakers. Pleanty of inputs, more than enough output to shake the whole house, accurate, and not overly bassy. Bass knob does a good job and full left on it turns the subwoofer OFF. Nice

4 out of 5 eggsSo close Logitech...

Pros: This system packs a lot of power with not that bad of a price tag. You won't find a better deal in this price range. 200 watts RMS (continuous) power. That's 35 watts per satellite and 130 watts for the subwoofer. Overall build quality is what you would expect from Logitech. Satellites feel heavy and well built. The subwoofer and it's enclosure are built like a tank, and feels about as heavy. Rubberized feet on all 3 of the components ensure that where you put them, they will stay. Volume and subwoofer control knobs are located on the right speaker for easy fine tuning. Thick long wires make it so this speaker system can suit a variety of applications. Great frequency response (20Hz - 20 KHz). Headphone and mic input controls are located on the right speaker as well for easy hookup. Speakers are also protected from damage with metal grills.
Sound quality is good despite a few drawbacks (see cons). Powerful bass from the subwoofer. The mids and highs seem nice and don't distort even at high volume. The subwoofer also has low-to-no distortion, as long as the user configures the knobs and audio device being used correctly. Embossed Logitech logo on the left speaker is a beautiful added touch. Along with the THX logos on the tweeters. Perfect for applications such as home theater, PC or console gaming, or just hooking up any music device. There are is also an AUX input (RCA R-L) to hook up anything that needs RCA patch cables or if you don't have a 3.5mm to RCA adapter. Comes with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm right angle cable which in a nice touch. All in all, a great all around system for the price.

Cons: This is a great speaker system with a few issues that Logitech really needs to address. First and foremost, the wattage on all of the speakers should be pulled more tightly together. The subwoofer is 130 watts and each satellite is only 35 watts. Meaning that when you start to crank this thing up all of the highs get drowned out by the lows (and I mean BOOMING bass). You can dial back the sub, but when you get about to the half way mark it just doesn't sound as good as it could. Even with EQ tuning and hours tinkering with gain on inputs it just doesn't equal out like it could, and should. Leaving me to say that this system is better suited for watching movies on your home theater than it is to listening to music. I know I'll catch flak for a lot of what I'm saying, but believe me. Atfer working in car audio for 7 years, and being a DJ for 15 years I've developed a little bit of an audiophile's ear. I can hear when sounds are having a conflict, and in this case they kind of are. Maybe they should have dropped the woofer to an even 100 watts, and then split the other 100 watts between the two satellites it might compensate for the big boom of the 7 inch woofer and even out the level of the frequencies.
Also they could have made the grills easier to remove. They probably aren't supposed to be removed, but the sub just seems to sound better with the giant grill off. There are methods to remove them that I have figured out (see other thoughts).
This is just nitpicking here, but I also don't really like the bass port on the subwoofer on the side. Ported subwoofers sound better when the port is in the front, firing directly at the listeniner, or on the back where it can be fired at a wall or corner of the room and refracted back all around the room. That's just my personal preference though. Don't have to agree with me, some may like it on the side. I just don't see the point.

Other Thoughts: All of the things I have said in this review I already knew before I made this purchase. I always research everything before I buy it, and knew about most of the drawback before I bought them. Just not the how bad the uneven distribution of the wattage would effect overall sound quality. I bought these as a replacement for some blown Numark studio monitors. I wanted to add a subwoofer since the monitors I had been using only went as low as 45 Hz. Being an electronic music DJ I really need to hear and feel the bass in my music. This definitely does that. I mean this subwoofer, in my small studio, will almost shake the paint off the walls. Doesn't make the neighbors happy either. That being said I just wish they would have done something about evening out the mids and highs. When connected to my Numark N4 controller, I find myself always having to turn up the mid and high knobs on the EQ of each channel during mixes. That is to be expected, and I wasn't really expecting that much out of this system. That would be "asking for the moon". Afterall the powered monitors that these replaced were almost 3 times the price.
I have, and still do connect these to my pc. Which is also my home theater. My gaming rig is actually part of my living room. These sound great when playing games and watching TV or movies. You really hear, and feel, alot of things that you never did before with the dinky little stock TV speakers. Great product, very happy with purchase. Just iron these little details out Logitech and next time I'll give ya 5 eggs.

5 out of 5 eggs4 years strong!

Pros: The best 2.1 speakers money can buy! (At least that I have heard). These speakers deliver so much bass, mid, and high with its 120watt sub, solid constructed mids and even comes with two tweeters mounted on top of the mids. I have owned these speakers for four years and they sound just as good as they did when I bought them. I have bought a pair for my parents a year ago and still recommend these as a must for any gamer/audio enthusiest. Nothing touches these and you pay a little extra for all of this. 60-70 dollar speakers and anything below that is trash that you will have to replace within a year with horrid sound quality. I have owned ihome and Altec Lansing previous to this and I have never felt the need to switch. Once I get a home however I will be upgrading to the z906 5.1 audo. Logitech did it right!

Cons: Over time the volume button makes static when I push it, just when I push it though. Also bass can easily over power mids, the 5.1 are the solution for this. As a desktop speaker these are great, however at a party or to entertain people the 2.1 speakers are not enough unless you turn the sub down and turn up the volume. Little distortion throughout the levels though!

Other Thoughts: If you are thinking about speakers for your computer or home t.v. do not skimp and buying 40-70 dollar speakers. I have owned these for four years and it is the only component that has moved across builds because there is nothing better! Spend the extra money now and save later when you never have to replace these.
