The Strobe 400 is a low-cost duplex scanner for the busy professional who needs a fast and reliable scanning solution that can be used anywhere. It has rich features, such as 6 seconds per image in duplex mode speed, Auto Launch technology, and Visioneer OneTouch with Kofax VRS technology. It also boasts a powerful Text Searchable PDF capacity, and offers Nuance PaperPort and Nuance OmniPage Pro for easy document transformation. In addition, it also supports USB- or wall-powered operation, so users can scan, file, and store everything, regardless of location.

As the world’s smallest cross-platform document scanner, the Visioneer Strobe 400 measures only 11.5" x 2.7" x 2" and weighs a mere 1.8 pounds. It easily fits on a crowded desk or in a tight briefcase.

  • newegg Visioneer OneTouchVisioneer OneTouch is an easy-to-use utility that connects the buttons on the Strobe scanner with a powerful set of scanner settings to greatly improve the efficiency of your workflow. With one touch, the document is scanned automatically to email, Word, your printer, or simply a file folder.
  • newegg Kofax VRS technology The Strobe 400 integrates Kofax VRS image enhancement technology into the OneTouch scanning process. VRS is the gold standard in image improvement technology. Imperfect originals are automatically turned into perfect scans that are easier to read for the human eye and the computer’s eye. OCR results are dramatically improved, file size is decreased, and scans look as clear as the originals. And every page is custom corrected automatically, so you can batch together clean, laser-quality documents with your imperfect originals. The results are amazing.
  • newegg Text Searchable PDF If you can’t search your scanned documents by their content, you might as well be looking at paper again. The Strobe 400 can scan automatically to searchable PDF. It preserves the integrity of the scanned page so that the layout, signatures, logos, and photos remain intact, but the text is OCR’d so that you can search the document by its content. This is very powerful when looking for a single document among hundreds or thousands.
  • newegg Nuance PaperPort Millions of professionals rely on PaperPort to save time and money by transforming paper documents into searchable digital documents. PaperPort combines the efficiency of document management, the convenience of superbly scanned documents, and the power of creating PDF files to bring a new level of operational proficiency to your organization.
  • newegg Nuance OmniPage Pro Nuance OmniPage Pro provides a precise OCR and layout retention solution, quickly turning scanned documents into editable, formatted text. The text can then be used in virtually any word processing, desktop publishing, or web publishing program.
  • newegg Mac Software support You can also use the Strobe 400 with your Mac. The ExactScan capture utility enables multiple scanner configurations to be set and controlled by the two scan buttons on the front panel of the Strobe 400. Scanning as PDF files to email, folders, print, or the application of your choice is as easy as pressing a button. Presto! PageManager makes it easy to share and organize your documents, notes, receipts, photos, and documents. OCR your pages to edit them in Word, or reuse the text elsewhere.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small foot print on the desk. Quick, reasonably good quality scans. Most of the time. Good product for the price if you're using Windows XP.

Cons: Almost always blurry on one side. Doesn't scan entire page width in Win7 64bit no matter what.

Other Thoughts: I bought five of these to use at our doctor's office for scanning insurance and ID cards into our computer system. Initially installed on Windows XP 32bit. The software didn't work right and support gave me a link to a "power tools" fix that resolved some of the issues. Unfortunately, after THAT fix, one side (the top) was always blurry but still readable. This was on ALL 5 scanners on 5 different computers. Not exactly what I was expecting.

Used them for about 1 year. Now that we've bought a new system and new scanners I'm trying to re-deploy these elsewhere in the office but I cannot make them work well with Windows 7 64bit systems.

When I scan a full 8.5/11 sheet of paper, about 1 inch on the left and right margins is not scanned well... if you can see anything at all.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with Win 7

Pros: FAST, duplex.

Cons: Scans not always straight.

Other Thoughts: With respect to what lmalinofsky said, the bundeled PaperPort 11.1 DOES WORK WITH WINDOWS 7. I have it working on a Win 7 Ultimate X64 system.

3 out of 5 eggsBundled software does not work with Windows 7

Pros: When these scanners work right they are GREAT and depending on the version of One-Touch software you get, easy to use.

Cons: I should point out that PaperPort 11 *does not work* with Windows 7. You need PaperPort 12.1.

Other Thoughts: If you are still running Windows XP, this might be a good choice. But you'd have to buy a new version of PaperPort (12.1) for $99.00 if you upgraded to Windows 7.

4 out of 5 eggsFast!

Pros: Really fast! Does Duplex in one pass. Comes with PaperPort 11 and Omni Page.

Cons: Scans not always straight. Takes 2 USB ports to supply enough power but I guess that's what makes it fast.

Other Thoughts: AC adapter is supplied if you don't have enough USB ports.
