1 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: NewEgg's Customer Service

Cons: Installation is clunky, The unit itself was defective and would only scan one half of the page vertically. Very disappointed and was not willing to chance a replacement.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg took care of me. This is the first RMA after years of buying items from NewEgg and I had no issues what so ever with this! Customer Service is Promt, Polite, and Seamless! Thank you NewEgg!

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work in linux.

Pros: Can't tell, it never worked for me.

Cons: I tried to make it work in Ubuntu and in Arch linux to no avail. Supposedly, sane has basic functionality with it, but I could never get it to scan. I had to first get some firmware "cism216.fw" just to get xsane to open, but in the end, it was futile.

Other Thoughts: If you use linux, this scanner won't work for you.

1 out of 5 eggsDo NOT Trust Positive Reviews

Pros: None, if your system is Windows 7. Do NOT trust the positive reviews below. Downloading the software from genuisnet, apparently a Taiwanese company, will take most home users at least an hour, after which the unzipped drivers will not install on a 64-bit system, even though 64-bit files appear to be in the download. EVEN WORSE, the documentation that comes with the scanner includes error-filled directions about "Device Manager" on 7. Run, do not walk, away from this item if you have that operating system, 64-bit.

Cons: Do NOT trust reviews here that claim this will work on a Windows 7 64-bit system. The software included in the scanner package claims the driver can be updated; it cannot. Worse, if you have a slot-loading optical drive, the software may refuse to eject.

Other Thoughts: I buy internationally manufactured products routinely on Newegg; they're usually great and unbelievable bargains. This product is so bad, I am stunned that Newegg agreed to sell it. Given that the "Details" say that the device does not work on Windows 7, Newegg still allows reviews that claim the contrary, enough of them that people looking for a bargain may figure, "Why not?" Buy this at your peril.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor

Pros: Small and light

Cons: Produces unreadable scans of typical receipts.

Other Thoughts: I bought this primarily to scan receipts from FedEx and UPS. After an hour of messing around with the settings I got the same results every time. A faint image with very poor contrast that was unreadable and thus unusable. Wasted my money.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: This is a great little scanner, I was able to set it up for my sales department so they could scan papers and licensees. While the included software feels a bit cheep and old it does work just fine on windows xp32 - 764. If you set it correctly you can make it scan very quickly without a loss of quality.

Cons: The software is kinda old and clunky but it is a twain scanner so I think you can use other software.

Other Thoughts: We have had no issues yet and little options like being able to set what the buttons do make it a one click scanner with multiple options, you can do is much or as little as you want.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Scanner

Pros: This scanner is perfect for light daily use. I purchased this for my office. I work at a bank and need to email legal documents, loan information, employee information, etc. I generally scan 10 times a day and each time I scan 1-5 pages (roughly 30 pages a day). This scanner fit the bill perfect. For the price and what you get, this is a fantastic value.

Cons: Non

Other Thoughts: To people who say that the provided CD does not work for Windows 7 or has outdated drivers, you are incorrect. The CD has the latest drivers (5.1) and does work with Windows 7 64 and 32. My office computer runs 32 and my home has 64. The setup was easy. Plug in scanner, install drivers/software from CD, start scanning. From start to finish 5 minutes.

There is a website and this company is legitimate. Not sure how or why people do not understand how to use the internet but you could start at google. It took me 10 seconds to find this companies website.

All you neweggers that rated this product for less becasue of your ignorance should be banned from reviewing products. You all gave incorrect advice based on your incompetence.

4 out of 5 eggsAdditional info

Pros: This is an addition to my previous review. I found the location on the company's website that has the drivers available for download.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: Since Newegg won't let me put hyperlinks here, I'll have to do it this way: go to "genius.com" and click on "Download". In the search box in the upper left, type in "SF600" and hit enter. A list of drivers will appear, including those for Win7. You can also download the User's Guide, and the card recognition software.

3 out of 5 eggsWin 7

Pros: Great little scanner. Helped me out with sharing notes and documents instantly.

Cons: IT DOES NOT WORK WITH WIN 7. Win 7 cannot find the driver and the different versions of the driver I've tried don't work. Major draw back!!! I'm going to need to duel boot my computer with XP just so I can use this scanner.

Other Thoughts: I've had this at college for a couple years and it has been very helpful but now I can't get it to work with my new install of Win 7 and there is very little help online.

4 out of 5 eggsNot great, but not bad, either

Pros: Well built, reasonably fast scan at 300dpi, good OCR, acceptable color

Cons: Large areas of solid colors show artifacting and blotchiness.
Won't scan images to anything other than included software, or to a file.
JPEG compression is apparently set to maximum compression, with resultant maximum loss of quality.
Software is not very "intuitive".

Other Thoughts: Over all, I'm pretty pleased with this scanner. It seems to be fairly solidly made, and does a decent job of scanning documents. Note that there is no claim made for it as a photo-quality scanner - and it isn't.
In response to the reviewer who said it wouldn't scan to PDF files: yes, it will. You have to dig into the properties to find it, but it's there.

4 out of 5 eggsRocky start, but good

Pros: - Perfect size
- Cheap
- Easy to set up and train users

Cons: - The drivers are not completely easy to install
- The manufacturers website doesn't even list this product. Who actually makes this thing and supports it?
- No online driver install. DON'T LOSE YOUR CD!!

Other Thoughts: It works. We needed something small to scan in checks for bank websites. It does just that perfectly.

The main concern for me is that lack of clear "who the heck supports this" product. There are no drivers on their website, which is strange to me.

DON'T LOSE THE INSTALL CD!!
