2 out of 5 eggsInferior to regular clip in most ways

Pros: -Price is still low for what you get.
-Stopwatch function may be useful for joggers.
- Larger display... but at the cost of several negatives below

Cons: The larger display:
- takes up battery life needlessly
- Is less simple than old clip style; album art often makes things harder to read
- Forced album art on playback slows down skipping songs to a crawl!
- Causes a slightly larger unit

In addition:
- The buttons are too sensitive and pretty much require use of the hold button when in a pocket unlike old clip
- Supplied earbuds are worthless (as usual)
- input jack for headphones is too tight (I worry that I might end up breaking the cord unplugging it)

Other Thoughts: I don't see how this is an advancement over the old dependable clip. It's a poor solution to an almost non-existent problem. If someone wants a nice display they are going to be looking for another brand anyway; for me, sansa has always meant simple and clear. I bought the 'zip' by accident and will have to make sure to read carefully since Sansa decided to name all these units something so similar. While the unit is still not a bad value, it gets a 2/5 because they took a step down from their own other device.

5 out of 5 eggsSeems Decent

Pros: Plays MP3, can have Rockbox installed on it, small, easy to use.

Cons: None, so far.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace my wife's old RCA player. It was available in her favorite color, purple, and seems to have many standard features at a good price. Rockbox supports this model. We have only had it for about a week, however, my wife is quite happy with it. she uses it to listen to music while she does things around the house. The small size and the nice clip built in suite this purpose well.

5 out of 5 eggsRhapsody Player

Pros: Works with Rhapsody. Very Small and lightweight.

Cons: With Rhapsody you can not put Rhapsody tracks on the SD card. However you can put tracks you own on the SD card. Just have to change folder when you want to play them.

Other Thoughts: Got this to replace my wife's 3 yr old Sansa Fuze. Started having charging problems with it. If it went dead and you plugged it in you would have to reset the device to get it to charge. Guess the battery was going dead and it is not replaceable.

If it wasn't for my wife using Rhapsody I would have put Rockbox on it. You can use Rockbox with Rhapsody but it is somewhat complicated to update track licensees. You have to change a file, update the tracks, then change the file back. To much for my wife.

2 out of 5 eggsHope I get a better one

Pros: 8GB build in. Cheap. micro-sd card slot. Very small/light.
Audio book player, although I don't know how well this works.

Cons: After loading up about 7GB of music I found the player takes a long time to organize "my media" When the shuffle function was off it took over 5 minutes to skip a song I didn't want to listen to. Each song was like this. Turning on shuffle helped that. Then it took me more than ten minutes to get the thing to turn on today.

Other Thoughts: The radio seemed to work OK.
I RMA'd this for a replacement. Wish I could have just returned it. I've got the latest firmware so that is not the issue.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: I always do a lot of research before buying my electronics. This MP3player got great reviews everywhere I checked, so I decided to give it a try. First of all for the price it is great! Very easy to use especially compared to my zune. The best part to me is that there is no software needed you can just simply use it as an external hard drive and organize your files the way you want to. The menu is easy to follow and the battery last forever.

Cons: The only con is the screen. The quality is not worth using for videos but honestly if you are looking for an MP3 player for video use you should be willing to spend a lot more.

Other Thoughts: Over all a great little device for the price. I would recommend it and in fact I bought another one for my mother due to is ease of use.

1 out of 5 eggs5 week follow-up review

Pros: Player includes a FM Radio, stopwatch/lap timer, audiobook and podcast support and can record using it's microphone or off the FM. The player also supports micro SD cards up to 32 GB in size.

Cons: After 5 weeks of use the player still provides poor aac file support. Your best off converting everything to MP3 format for this player. Even with all MP3 file content, when you change file content on the player it can take over ten minutes to refresh even minor changes if you use a memory card to augment the player's memory. Change any of the content on an almost full 32 GB Micro SD card and refresh will take over an hour! Yes, over an hour! Not exactly a great user experience, to say the least.

Other Thoughts: SanDisk has pumped out three firmware updates in the last five weeks for this player. They have resolved none of the flaws mentioned in my two reviews. Their customer support has been horrible. They excel at denial and wasting your time when you are only trying to help them fix their product flaws. I use their forums to discuss these issues instead and get at least some ideas how to workaround the many product issues. I have downgraded the player to one star after five weeks of ownership due to the numerous issues with refresh times and AAC files and the lack of problem resolution displayed by SanDisk. Buyer beware!

2 out of 5 eggsPromising Clip Zip player has issues

Pros: This player has a lot of attractive features for the price:

* 4 GB of space formats to about 3.93 GB

* Modes include Audio, Podcasts, FM Radio (US/World), Audiobooks, Voice recording and a sports mode (with stopwatch and log save modes)

* Stated support for up to 32 gb micro SD cards

* Support for MP3, WMA, secure WMA, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC and M4A formats (DRM Free AAC)

* Unit is compact and light and has a nice clip for on the go
usage while exercising - Seems sturdy enough

* A small, square, low resolution color screen is used for navigation quite effectively

Cons: * The earphones are poor, but you probably already have others, right?

* I found this player could not handle m4a (aac) files with data rates greater than 320 kbps. These were files my iPod Shuffle had no trouble playing. On this player they became unlistenable after about 20 seconds. (When screen goes dark)

* The Quick Start Guide fails to mention the voice recording feature and is the only documentation provided. To get a manual you must go online to the SanDisk site and download the latest version of the manual. Look for firmware upgrades while on this site.

* The biggest problem I had was getting a 32GB card with content to load. Once you get more than about 3GB of content on the card it became unusable. It would not finish the card refresh cycle to update the menu in the brief time allotted. The menu screen goes dark while the progress bar is less than half way done. You are stuck in a loop with no way out other than a hard reset of the player. Bad design!

Other Thoughts: SanDisk promises an email reply within 24-48 hours of submitting a problem report. They broke this promise on both problems I reported. Their online support was only marginally better.

I spent over eight hours trying to work these issues with online support and got nowhere. They won't own up to the issues and would rather just send you a replacement player instead. On the memory issue they would rather blame the memory card, but it is one of theirs and it works fine in my Mac and in my PC. The content is there on the card. The player just doesn't have a big enough refresh window to complete before the player just locks up requiring a hard reset. The content changes to the player or card require these refresh cycles to update the menus. For the player they work. For the card they fail for 3-4GB or more of content. The problem is compounded by poor user feedback and no error handling during this menu update refresh cycle. Smells like bad user interface design! Frustrating!
