5 out of 5 eggsGarmin

Pros: Easy to use. It has been very solid and accurate.

Cons: Garmin changed the menus so it took me a little while to find certain features. They buried the custom POI option in a spot that isn't a very intuitive spot.

Other Thoughts: I use this primarily for work. My wife was very impressed with it when she recently used it to travel to a wedding. She had not been all that impressed with Garmin before using this unit and says that she would like to use this one more when she travels for her work. Definite improvement over printed the Map Quest maps that she insisted on using because she didn't like the other Garmin that she had occasionally used. It gets high marks from me because it will eliminate her trying to look at printed directions while she drives (very stubborn and old school).

3 out of 5 eggsNeeds Improvement

Pros: Its very light weight.
Great screen in broad day light.
2.5 hour battery is nice.
Lifetime updates is a must in todays world.
Does Not lock out when moving.

Cons: It is slow connecting to satellites.

traffic has not warned of a single thing yet and I have been driving with it for over 2,000 miles now and there are times where it should have warned me...

It refuses, absolutely refuses to reroute if you go off the already selected route. Non stop will it tell you to take u-turns. It will never re-calculate on its own. You have hit stop, go back to recent address, and have it start a new a trip. From there it will finally see the way you want to go.

I have it set on max detail yet when I am home, where there are only two roads near me, it wont show any road names. Unless I zoom in and get the "800ft" legend. If I do anything that takes off the map it resets and no road names. Very annoying

If you choose "routes" to see alternative routes. They will be identical except for about 1 mile of road. Then it says no other routes for the 3rd box. Its not at all adventurous.

On my way home to NY from FL, it kept prompting me to get off the highway and take back roads for 10 miles that went right beside the highway. Each time I would have to cancel and start a new route, then it would get out of its stupid old road for no reason loop.

It throws a fit if you have to ever stop for something called gas. I had to stop 4 times for the trip home and every time I got off the highway it threw a hissy fit. And when I finally got back on the highway, it took it upon its self to make a completely different route that made no sense! So again, cancel, start new route...

There is construction near me and the 81N on-ramp from 17E is closed. (Has been for over a month). I took my own way and the Garmin absolutely freaked out. Non stop u-turns. Even where I couldn't actually do so, it still told me too. I feel sorry for anyone trying to get through hear following one of these. The only way to stop it was to, yep, you got it by now, cancel, recent address, start new route, go. Then it finally saw, there was another way of getting home that didn't demand a u-turn every 5ft.

Other Thoughts: I am used to a 2006 GM GPS disc in our 2007 Suburban. Yes it is very outdated. GM wants $200 for a new dvd. I do like the GM GPS because it first prompts you with 3 very different routes. "Faster", "Shorter", and "Other". Each are very different from the other 2 so you have a nice selection. If you decide to go your own way the GM GPS will only ask once that you u-turn, it will then recalculate to the exact route you are going. The GM GPS doesn't throw a hissy fit if I ever have to stop for something along the trip. The GM GPS does completely lock out unless the car is in Park, very dumb. The Garmin luckily does not.

I was able to snag this for $ 1 2 0 .00 Really, if I paid more, I would be kicking myself for not simply buying the $200 GM disc. I dont like the fact that GM is greedy but I do like the way the GM GPS operates far more than this Garmin.

So really, I thought I would really like this GPS but it was a big let down really. Garmin has a lot to straighten out before it becomes any bit intuitive.

5 out of 5 eggsVery fast

Pros: This is a very fast GPS unit based on how fast it updates its map view(4+ times per second) and how little it lags behind my real-world position. The touch screen is very responsive and easy to use. The GUI works very nicely. The traffic information also works very nicely.

Cons: There are no clear cons. This device was highly recommended by customers on an online forum. This model of Garmin was recommended above the rest. No disappointments.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Garmin. The older one is still usable, but slow screen updates and position lag make for a different experience. Its touch screen is also not so responsive, requiring extra pressure (sometimes I have to pinch the device to produce the touch pressure). None of this is an issue on the new model.

Pros: Crisp wide screen. Speech is spoken clearly. Nice selection of POI.

Cons: Would've given 5 stars but shipping took a long time. Need to stick to FEDEX or UPS and ditch USPS.
