3 out of 5 eggsA decent GPS

Pros: It's big! that's for sure.
The display is clear and bright and the GPS does what it is suppose to do like the box says.
I actually found out you can run other OSes on these with a microSD card.

Cons: It's a big display but it's not the pretties, sometimes the pixels get fuzzy and, compare to Garmins and others, is not customizable at all.
I was expecting a nicer rendering and ability to change the car or color but nothing, all you get to play with is daylight/night settings lol.

Other Thoughts: I got mine as a gift about 2 years ago but back then it cost around $250.
It's a big GPS that looks nice on the dashboard of my Scion xB. I was expecting more from reading the specs though. It is as simple as GPS can get, no gadgets here.

5 out of 5 eggsI must be lucky, my favorite GPS so far.

Pros: Fast Processor (screen scrolls much faster then previous Garmin units)
Easy (and fast) "data" entry for searches (QWERTY + "graying out" tech)
Big screen (if it's not too big for you, makes all GPS functions easier)
"Dings" perfectly notifying you of turns at PRECISELY the right moment.
(That ding-ding feature is ALWAYS 100% right on the money, inspires confidence.)

Cons: It's BIG... probably too big for most.

Other Thoughts: If you can handle the size of this gps (for a full size truck, SEMI, or an RV)... then you'll love it. It makes everything about a GPS easier... data entry, seeing the map and area features that you'd miss on other units... i.e. just like a computer monitor... you have a choice of smaller "everything"... or "more everything" on the screen. With this BIG screen you don't have to choose... You can have a lot of MAP showing AND have it all big enough to easily read. The 1-touch exit info button is very handy as well. GPS units are getting like computers, so I don't see as much value in really old reviews (2 years+) but this unit is still my favorite of all that I've had... and I've had a bunch, including 3 G-Brand. Finally, NO GPS is perfect 100% of the time, but I have yet to have a bad experience with this one after nearly a year of ownership.

3 out of 5 eggsIts big

Pros: Huge display, very easy to see. The touch screen works well and isn't slow or glitchy like some other GPS units Ive used. Great price for such a large screen and good features for the cost.

Cons: It just doesn't know the best route....EVER!!! To test this thing out I entered the addresses of several places I already knew how to get to from my house, this thing got me there but not once did it ever take the best route!! I entered my friends address who live one street away from me, to get to his house I would turn right at the end of my street and then another right onto his street. However the Magellan had me make a left leaving my street, going up one street and making another left, follow that street to the next cross street and make another left, followed by the final left onto my buddies street......really ??? Why ??? This is a decent GPS and yes it will get you where you need to go, however just don't expect the best route the majority of the time. Reasonably priced unit but for my money I want the best route and this thing just doesn't give it. Thinking about returning.

1 out of 5 eggsUnit came DOA

Pros: Screen size

Cons: Unit bought from Staples & was DOA. Unit would start to power on and then just go black. Had to use reset option to get unti to poer up again just to have it go dead again.

Power cord does not fit into unit securely. I could easily see the plug slipping out on the smallest of bumps

Other Thoughts: When I returned the unit to Staples the manager said it was a common problem with most Megellen models. I own a Nuvi that works fine I just wanted the the 7 screen

4 out of 5 eggsRoadmate 1700

Pros: Extremely large screen makes for easy navigation. Highway lane assist is very helpful...I thought it seemed like a gimmick but it works great in unfamiliar areas (I'm from a small town and am not used to multi-lane highways). Spoken voice is loud and clear, very easy to understand. Large screen means larger keyboard...makes it much easier to search destinations and POI's. Windshield mount is surprisingly steady considering the weight. Auto night mode is a nice feature, switches automatically. This GPS came pre-loaded with a more updated map than my previous, with the newest downloaded map pack it even recognizes 16 miles of country roads I live on, which none of my other GPS's have. AV input is neat for watching video...makes trips where the navigation is unnecessary shorter for the kids! Comes with a sleeve to put the unit it when not in use...helps keep it clean and the screen from getting scratched.

Cons: With the large screen comes the obvious sacrifice of battery life, which is to be expected...battery life leaves a lot to be desired. Does not contain pedestrian mode, but is a bit too large for that anyhow. Lacks some familiar features such as showing the current speed limit...it does show your vehicle speed though.

Other Thoughts: I've owned a Garmin and a TomTom, and although they had some features that were kind of neat that the Magellan lacks, the Magellan is a far better guidance system. There's a free software update available for this model that seems to have rid the GPS of the slowness and freezing issues (I've never had either because I updated it before using it).

4 out of 5 eggsGood, not yet entirely great...

Pros: This GPS is HUGE!!! It is clearly visible when showing it routes, etc.... It gives you many POI's and is fairly easy to mess around with...

Cons: The GPS fairly lags some of the time and I've already had mine freeze up a couple of times where it goes to the point that I have to reset it again and then it works fine... The device only charges in the vehicle and does not do so via USB...

Other Thoughts: I wish that Magellan can get rid of this freezing issue and then I'd LOVE this item!!! Right now I just like it...good item, good price, get yourself warranty for it.....you might need it........
