5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for games and movies

Pros: Wireless, good sound, long battery life, 2 batteries + charger, well built, comfortable, detachable mic

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: These have proved perfect for late night gaming and/or movies...when you don't want to wake people. The surround works great for FPS games, as you can tell which direction sounds are coming from. I love having the extra battery, and how long they last, very convenient.

2 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: Great game sound. NO WIRES. Very comfy on your head. Quality sound. Sound depth and crispness.

Cons: Very flimsy, does not last long

Other Thoughts: I bought this headset because I heard it was good and Newegg had a great sale price for it (originally $250 sale for $119) so I figured instead of buying astros I'd give these a shot. They got to me and worked fine as can be, but one day out of nowhere the left speaker for game sound just blew out and was completely distorted and "staticy". It also doesn't help that Tritton's repairs take at least 2-3 weeks with shipping and processing. If you have $250 to spend I recommend Astros, you have to deal with wires but at least they wont break within 3 months!

3 out of 5 eggsdecent

Pros: they look nice. wireless. 2 batteries. fairly light. the sound is good. good battery life.

Cons: the bass is fairly weak. you get a nice deafening "POP" when the battery goes out. the mic is okay. I do have to repeat myself sometimes because it cuts in and out. there's a constant hiss when there's no sound.

Other Thoughts: i bought these back during christmas when they were half off, but for 250-300 dollars you could get something better.

5 out of 5 eggsAll around decent

Pros: Pros: Very lightweight
Rechargeable Batteries
Comfortable
Price Tag

Cons: What I do not like about this headset is that if someone screams into the microphone, like children usually do, it becomes very distorted. The problem is very easily fixed by muting said player. Included optical cable is not very long, but I had an extra lying around.

Other Thoughts: I bought these on Newegg for $119.99. At this price it was a very easy decision. I use them with my Xbox, PS3, and even PC after buying an adapter from Microsoft and I couldn't be happier. Fans of the FPS genre will be particularly elated.

3 out of 5 eggsupdate to previous PC review

Pros: Now that I've been using these for 5 months on a regular basis, it is time for an updated review.

The sound quality is still good and I like the easy access to the volume controls & mute function.

Batteries are still lasting plenty of time. I can use one for about 6-8 hours and then pop the other one in.

After the initial few days of working through the setup problems, I've had no other issues keeping the device connected. It works every time without hassle.

Cons: The microphone quality was terrible (on PC) to the point that I gave up trying to get it working any better. It CAN be connected to a PC, but don't bother trying. I have not tested the microphone quality on XBOX. I opted to buy a separate desk stand microphone, the Blue Yeti, which is serving me well.

The other big problem is that over time the material on the ear covers is wearing off. There will be pieces of it stuck to my head after taking the headphones off! That has never happened on any other headphones I've owned, so I assume the material used was not appropriate for these. For this reason I cannot recommend these to frequent headphone users. I have not, but probably will contact support about this issue sometime before the warranty expires.

Other Thoughts: It's still a nice product, but with some glaring flaws that definitely should be addressed coming with this price tag. I hope Tritton makes a similar version specifically for PC with a decent microphone. If not, I would go to another brand next time.

3 out of 5 eggsGood but not great

Pros: Everything they are advertised to be.

Cons: 1) very tight on your ears. Do not expect to play comfortably for more than a few hours. I have to take them off during long gaming sessions.

2) Very easy to inadvertently change the controls on the headset when you try to turn up the volume, adjust the headset because they are tight, mute the mic. I spent lots of time messing around with these because I hit a button by accident.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing..

Pros: Quite possibly the BEST wireless headset I have owned!! They connect fast, they sound amazing, 2 rechargeable batteries, not very heavy, easy to setup, did I mention that they sound amazing??

Cons: A lil bit tight on the head but you'll get used to them.. Expensive.. Chat volume doesn't go up with game audio.. No biggie..

Other Thoughts: Granted they are not a "true" surround sound headset, they work pretty dang well.. LOVE the fact that there is no loud popping or static in them except for when there is no audio (sometimes) and even then its not that noticeable..

5 out of 5 eggsPC Gamer's perspective

Pros: As I unboxed my new toy, I admired the beautiful packaging. My degree is in graphic design, so I appreciated the effort they put into a well-designed container. Initially, I noticed how light the whole thing was -- an important factor for a wireless headset. Even the base charging station seems light. The batteries are also surprisingly light.

Connecting the headset to the computer requires and optical audio port. If connecting it to an XBOX, there is an adapter included. There are 3 power adapters for different types of power outlets. One is for North America and the other two I assume are European. The directions come in English, French, German, and Italian. There is also an RCA adapter that can be hooked up directly to a TV while not using any extra audio ports.

Charging the battery, the directions state, can take up to 8 hours. For me, it took 3-4 hours to fully charge one battery and about 5 hours to charge the second. From a completely drained battery, it is close to 8 hours. A fully charged battery easily lasted a full day of use.

Wireless range is good (I'm in a small space so it is harder to test), but the sound starts to drop out after going behind a wall. Behind two walls, it drops completely.

The EQ modes game, movie, and music seemed distracting and I opted to leave them off. Leaving them disabled gave me the best sense of directional sound in game. Games tested: Defiance, Battlefield 3, Dota 2, Guild Wars 2, Trackmania 2. Some weapon sounds were muffled compared to what I'm used to. If given the option, changing the speaker setup to headphones fixed most of the sound variance issues. Music playback provides excellent sound quality. The bass is full. Treble is crisp and clear. Movies sounded good in stereo and 5.1 surround settings, both providing directional sound.

Cons: To receive warranty coverage (2-year limited), the manual says it is necessary to register the product at trittonusa.com. I found no link there. Newegg lists the warranty as 1 year.

Getting sound to play proved to be challenging and I resorted to using trial and error while music was playing to find the correct combination of settings. This was partly due to my inexperience with optical audio. As it turned out, the optical audio on my motherboard was bad so I installed my older X-Fi platinum sound card. The optical cord is very short, so the headset base cannot be far away from the computer.

The headband is a tight, snug fit which is important for a headset with no cords. It can become uncomfortable after more than two hours of use. The padding is sufficient though and seems like a good material.

For the adapter (purchased separately), it was not recognized automatically.
First, run setupstb.exe from the disk.
Go to the device manager.
Right click and update driver software.
Browse my computer for driver software.
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Scroll to the bottom of the list and choose Xbox 360 Peripherals.
Click Have Disk, Browse.
Navigate to the disk \Software\XBox360\Setup64\Files\Xusb21.inf
Choose Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows
Choose Yes at the prompt.
Now it should be installed in the device manager correctly. Hold down the sync button on the adapter and the sync button on the headset (inner left headpiece) for about 5 seconds. The circle light on the base unit flashes on the 1 when it is connected correctly. On voice comms, people said I sounded worse than on my last headset and far away. After restarting the computer, the microphone had to be re-synced. The expected methods did not work, but unplugging the base station and plugging it back in did. It also occasionally transmits with heavy static. I have not found a permanent solution for that yet.

Other Thoughts: These were purchased on 03/2013 as an upgrade from the Tritton AX51 Pro 5.1 headset for PC which I purchased 06/2009.

My experience with Tritton headsets has been positive. I did have to get my first pair of AX51's replaced due to loss of sound in one speaker, but customer support was very helpful and prompt in sending me everything I needed. It actually happened twice, once on 12/2009 and once 07/2010. The pair I'm upgrading from has no problems after nearly 3 years of use.

I realized going into this purchase that these headphones are designed for XBOX and that I would be using them only on PC as I do not have an XBOX. After reading reviews on another website, it was clear an adapter would be necesary for the microphone to operate properly with the PC. The one I purchased is Black USB Wireless Gaming Controller Receiver Adapter For PC Windows 7 Xbox 360.

There was a 30% off coupon in one of my Newegg Newsletter e-mails for Tritton headsets. With Shoprunner, 2-day shipping was free.
