This review is from: Pokemon White: Version 2 for Nintendo DS
Pros: *Another fun, "gotta-catch-em-all" adventure *Introduction of 3D visuals is a nice touch *Enough optional challenge to satisfy Pokemon masters
Cons: *Too many Pokemon divided between this and Black 2 *Relatively unchanged formula with a less interesting batch of new Pokemon *By now (August 2014) Nintendo WiFi features are discontinued (this does not affect local wireless features)
Other Thoughts: While new Pokemon designs will strike longtime players as less inspired than back in the day, and some may be tiring of the series' formula, Pokemon White is another fun, potentially challenging (it's up to you!) installment in the Pokemon franchise complete with intense battles and a huge number of Pokemon to catch.
This review is from: Pokemon White: Version 2 for Nintendo DS
Pros: Pokemon White 2 may seem like a cheap way for Nintendo to cash in on the series while making small changes to the gameplay. I will say this is NOT the case. Pokemon White 2 doesn't feel tired and old like many would suspect.
The beginning of your adventure will take you through all new locations until with various opportunities to catch the some classic creatures from the game's past. Pokemon like Riolu can be found right from the start, with this sequel expanding the starting Pokedex to huge proportions, there will be even more to catch before you obtain the NationalDex
The first city you'll see from Black/White will be Castlelia City. Almost every town/city is revamped and remodeled to look and feel new. No gym is the same as before either. Pieces from Black and White's story is scattered all over to make a connection for the players who played the first part. Yet I can't see a reason why you'd lose out on anything important, having not played them first.
Cons: For some newer or younger players, the game may seem like the difficulty is higher than previous titles. Pokemon in the wild and in trainer battles seem to be at higher level, earlier in the game. The addition of older Pokemon may be another cause.
However, for veteran players like myself, it is a very welcomed trait and offers more to work for. *
Other Thoughts: There are tons of new features added to Pokemon Black 2 and White 2.
The new medal system is an achievement system that gives you medals for partaking in events like the new Pokestar Studios quests, where you make movies. Things like checking trash cans for hidden items and buying a certain amount of supplies at the Pokemart will earn medal to go in a storage case
There is a new key system that allows you to modify gameplay mechanics like difficulty to make it easier or even harder. You can also trade the keys with friends to get them all. Since you don't lose them when you trade them, it's more like giving a copy away then trading.
There is so much more to do in Pokemon White 2, I wouldn't call myself a true fan without playing it sometime. Please don't dismiss it because it's a direct sequel, because there is so much more to be done here. And with plenty of new feature I won't mention because it's better for you to discover when you play it, I can't imagine future games in the Pokemon franchise without them. It begs the question why they waited until now to add them.
