4 out of 5 eggsGood Fighting Game

Pros: MK Characters and Classic DC Superheros!
Good graphics
Fun to play with friends
Good button attack response

Cons: lack of extra features like costumes and not many useful unlockables

story mode is difficult and you have to restart it even if you save it. :/

Other Thoughts: Alot of people giving this game 3 eggs, but it's playable and fun on multiplayer plus what other games can you play as catwoman or wonderwoman?!

2 out of 5 eggsVery disappointing

Pros: It's a Mortal Kombat game with DC characters in it. If you're a big fan of either franchise you should be happy about that. The price on this game has dropped tremendously.

Cons: Arcade mode is garbage with typical Mortal Kombat AI. Super easy for the first few stages, then impossible for the next ones. They started this with MKII and haven't changed it since. The game basically becomes you running from the computer player and getting countered every time you push a button. 2 player mode is OK, but even then it's not comparable to other fighting games that are out there right now. The graphics on this game are mediocre at best. All of the faces look like mongoloids and the bodies are horribly mis-proportioned. The fatalities look like they are half finished. Load time is a nightmare. Be prepared to wait 30 seconds for anything you do, usually with a bland picture of a Mortal Kombat character staring at a DC character who looks equally confused. There are a lot of good characters missing from the roster. Honestly, the longer you play, the worse it gets. I don't know how they managed that, but they did it well.

Other Thoughts: When this game was new, it was $59.99. If I had paid that much for it, I'd want to fatality myself. However, now that the price has come down to a comical level, it's not as bad. Especially since you can get some trade in value when you've played the game and seen how underwhelming it really is, and the magic is over.

4 out of 5 eggsImmensely Fun, but Lacking in Content

Pros: - Solid graphics and animations for all of the characters.
- Excellent sound design. Some very cool in-game voices (though the acting for the main story is mediocre at best, as expected). Fantastic announcer's voice, deep and menacing.
- Great move list for nearly all of the characters. Creates a fast paced match with nearly every character.
- Best overall fighting mechanic since the 2d days, no more slow shuffling about the ring, and no more useless stances or weapons. Straightforward, fast-paced fighting.
- Just plain fun for either the MK fan or the DC fan wanting to duke it out between universes (or even within it's own universe if you like).

Cons: - Low number of selectable characters, especially for MK fans used to having 30+ MK characters to choose from (now only 11 + 1 unlockable per side).
- Virtually NO unlockables whatsoever. One character for each side and that's it, no new costumes, no new or bonus stages, no "making of" videos or anything.
- Again, more selectable stages would have been nice.
- Minimal blood and gore, a MK staple in the industry.
- Very lame fatalities/brutalities sans a handful.
- No Reptile, Johnny Cage, Cyrax, Smoke, or Kung Lao...

Other Thoughts: This is the MK game people have been waiting for since MK3. They finally figured out how to up the pace of the 3d environment and bring it back to the quick and twitchy old days. The fighting mechanic is solid and the move lists for the characters are very cool. On top of that, the characters themselves are very cool. Pitting Sub-Zero vs The Flash or Batman is intensely fun. Even having something cliche like Superman vs The Flash, or Superman vs Batman is fantastic.

It's just too bad there are so few characters to choose from, with so little variation and no alternate costumes (which would be pretty easy considering the numerous aesthetics the DC heroes have dawned over the years, and the obvious MK ones...).

Even though Midway has recently gone under, let's hope for a sequel. They got a LOT right with this game, and laid a solid foundation for future titles, unfortunately the first entry has about 1/4 the content that it should. It is however immensely fun if you are a MK or DC

2 out of 5 eggsNuhb

Pros: - Very good gfx (because its a ps3 game, so its expected)
- Finishing moves are cool

Cons: - hardly any blood at all, so very not-like mortal kombat
- Not near enough players (only 2 unlockable) one for DC and one for MK
- Too long of scenes in story mode, got really bored, still havent actually watched the cut-scenes

Other Thoughts: RENT! it before you buy it, very dissapointed

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Concept but Misses the Mark

Pros: Smooth and detailed graphics. DC characters' moves and abilities are well-done. Power moves are a lot of fun (Superman's are my personal favorites). Lets you fight with some of the coolest super heroes in history.

Cons: Single-player story mode is very short and fairly un-interesting. Dubious and poorly-developed storyline. Voice acting is a bit cheesy and retains the subtle and often unintentionally funny dialogue oddities resulting from the vagaries of language translation--though not nearly as noticeable as, say, Soul Caliber IV. Finishing moves are dumbed-down and have lost much of the panache of the original MK idea. It's hard to swallow the idea that someone like the Joker could ever go toe-to-toe with the real heavy hitters of either side, no matter how the tissue-thin plot tries to set it up. Most fights usually turn into button-mashing marathons with little skill involved.

Other Thoughts: This game could have been so much more. Any game that features a bunch of Justice League heroes is going to get my attention, and when I saw clips and previews of this game, I thought it was going to be fantastic.

However, I think the lawyers and busybodies must have had too much of a say in the final version of MK vs. DC. I'm not really a fan of gratuitous and gory violence, but like it or not, that's part of what made Mortal Kombat unique, and so much deliciously-evil fun. The "brutality" finishing moves are nothing like the famous (or infamous) ones of MKs past. I suppose that jibes with the ethos of the superhero (could you really see Superman ripping out someone's spine?), but that's what breaks the spell of this game. They just didn't do a very good job developing a believable story--as fantasy stories go--that sucks you into the plot.

It's better-suited as a party game with your friends if you simply ignore the story and have fun smacking each other around.

5 out of 5 eggsFreaking Awesome

Pros: Awesome graphix and it's freaking DC comics vs Mortal Kombat. Combat is smooth, specials are familiar.

Cons: Online play a little delayed and therefore choppy. There aren't very many characters.

Other Thoughts: The only things better would be if it were Marvel Comics instead of DC. Plus I enjoyed the puzzle games and RPG portion of the last release. That would have made this more entertaining, but Awesome...

2 out of 5 eggsAverage at best

Pros: The graphics on this game are amazing and its to be expected since its a ps3 game. I really like the mesh of mortal kombat and dc characters. Computer is a good match-up until you lose(see below).

Cons: No blood at all... well maybe a touch here and there. Combos are extremely hard to piece together and rarely result in the correct button sequence. Only two un-lockable characters. Only two finishing moves per person. Certain characters are extremely overpowering. Extremely boring single player mode. On normal settings I was able to get a few battles and lose. After losing the computer gets extremely easy and lacks the same difficulty as before. The game has a fair amount of loading time between battles... why not lose the loading time by throwing a few gigs on the hard drive?

Other Thoughts: Why not 20-30 more characters? Why not have 6 finishing moves? Why not include the option to have 2 vs 2? GIVE ME BLOOD, THIS IS A FIGHTING GAME!!! Wishing I would of rented this prior to playing it. This is at best a game that you would play with friends and never play it by yourself. Can you return opened games? Should of bought the ps2 version of mortal kombat! Go back in time and never purchase this? THEY MIGHT have downloadable content and you MIGHT have to pay for it. Skip this game and wait for the real MK with the mature rating.
