SONY PS3 Move Motion Controller

Pros: Overall, very sleek, great looking design. Very responsive and provides excellent 1-to-1 motion control. Great button placement. Great battery life. Sturdy structure. Neither too heavy nor too light. Comfortable wrist strap.

The orb on the end is hollow, soft silicone. You are unlikely to hurt it or anything you hit with it.

Initial setup is easy. Calibration is easy for the few games that require it. You generally just hold the controller where it tells you, press a button or keep it still a few seconds, and possibly repeat a couple times.

It works in bright daylight to pitch black darkness just fine.

Also, despite what some people might tell you, you can navigate the PS3 menus with the controller. Just hold the trigger and move the controller up, down, left, or right. It's not as precise as using the buttons on the regular controller, but it's definitely responsive enough. Great to know if your regular controllers are far away or out of charge.

Cons: The orb defaults to pink for player 1 and there is no way (at least conveniently) to manually change this outside of the very few games that support that function. This is really just a minor nitpick and probably would only matter to people with young children who might fight over who gets that color.

Other Thoughts: While the PS Move game selection might be a little lacking, it is growing all the time. Just having one good Move game (Sports Champions for example), makes having the controllers worth it.

This will only really mean anything to you if you haven't picked out one of the big consoles yet:

In my opinion, this is the best motion controller available on any console. It combines the best features of the other systems. The camera reads three-dimensional position accurately and allows the system to track your hand(s) with the orbs. By focusing on the orb(s) instead of trying to read the whole body (which can vary a lot from person to person), the system can avoid a lot of processing and reduces motion lag, a noticeable problem with the Xbox Kinect. The controller provides accurate mechanical measurements of acceleration, angle, rotation, etc. on par with if not surpassing that of the Wii Motion Plus and gives you buttons that provide options movement alone cannot.

Pros: Solid piece of tech that offers real 1 to 1 motion. The games that utilize it do a good job and the motion controls don't feel tacked on.

Cons: Outside of the Sports Champions game bundled, not many games out right now that make Move a must have. I haven't played Killzone 3 yet, though.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I think it offers a better motion controller experience than Kinect or Wii. Big thing will be if more games will support it or not.

Pros: It works like it should. Has a wrist strap, like the Wii remotes. Fits more comfortably, main button positions are good. More accurate and precise than Wii.

Cons: Only thing that may fit in this category that I can think of is the start and select buttons are on the side of the Controller kind of out of the way and hard to recognize right away. So far I have never had to use the select button, and the start button just brings up the pause menu in game. So not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: cyphid is wrong about calibration, especially if he is a high tech level. First, not all games do you have to calibrate, so far I found only Sports Champions game that comes with the Move bundle requires you to calibrate before you play whichever mini game. The calibration makes it more accurate to the person playing, their height and body type, and the distance they are from the PS3 Eye. The calibration the first time may take 20 seconds because you read and do exactly as the guy demonstrating does. But after you have done it a couple times, you can literally calibrate in 1.5 seconds, like I have done many times.

Also I have played in the morning, afternoon, evening and pitch black at midnight. The controller worked fine in all types of the lighting: sunlight, artificial light, and no light.

Pros: fits better than wii mote,
you DONT need the nav controller unless the game says you do.

Cons: most games use the "move button" to accept but the trigger is more intuative.

Other Thoughts: I disagree with cyphid. calibration is easy and instructions are clear. it is well worth it for the increased precision over the Wii. My experience with the background lighting is different also. For head tracking in "The Fight" you need a bright back ground, i notice no loss.

Pros: I have been playing wii since launch and I'm glad to see move do better motion controls. This controller is more natural to hold than the wiimote. Nice variations of colors for the LED!

Cons: The button layout is a little odd, initial setup and calibration is was horribly difficult. I almost gave up but had to research and see if others were having the same issues.

Other Thoughts: You need to have low lighting in the room you play move. If the lights are too bright or the sun glares in, the move will not recognize the light on the controller.

Pros: Just plain awesome. On the sports champions pack, I actually feel like I'm playing volleyball and ping pong like I was back in high school. Frisbee golf is amazing and I know its real when I suck at Tiger Woods PGA 11 on the move since I can't swing a club in real life to save myself. Just blown away on the accuracy.

Other Thoughts: I think they should pair a move & nav controller as a set.
