5 out of 5 eggsEntry-level HOTAS with no entry-level cons

Pros: If you think you need a HOTAS but dont need one to match you authentic cockpit-themed computer setup, or just feel the need to shell out several hundred dollars, then this one is for you.

Cons: a bit too light and therefore easily tilted off of desk

Other Thoughts: Could use more buttons

2 out of 5 eggsOne of the buttons doesn't work, otherwise fine

Pros: Good value for the price. Acceptable performance.

Cons: The "5" button on the throttle doesn't work, and I'm not going to pay $20 to ship a defective item back to Newegg for to replace a $48 purchase.

The cable connecting the throttle and joystick could be a few inches longer. It's just barely too short to place my keyboard (with numberpad) in between them.

5 out of 5 eggsWork right out the box

Pros: Somewhat better then I expected. So win here.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought this for Elite Dangerous. I was setting up the keys and what not. Then I realize there was an option that I can just change it straight to THRUSTMASTER T.Flight Hotas X Joystick with preset settings. Then I spent another 20mins customizing it. Now it is perfect!

5 out of 5 eggsThrustmaster Hotas X review

Pros: Great Design, you can tell this isn't the first iteration and Thrustmaster has been doing this for a while. There are a lot of little things that are really well designed. The fact it comes apart, there is a little place for the excess wire that runs between the throttle and stick, there is an Allen wrench that is included for if you want to lock it together. There is an adjustment to tighten the stick tension. The buttons are layed out fairly well, definitely no complaints. Win 7 picked it up as soon as I plugged it in, no drivers to mess with.

Cons: If I had a complaint it would be they could maybe add a few more buttons on the base. There is a fair amount of buttons on the controller, but its always nice to be able to map some more functions.

Other Thoughts: Others have made a point it feels a little light or feels kind of cheap. This is my first hotas, so I have no other reference, but its plastic, to me it feels solid enough, but its not real heavy.

For 50 bucks this is a great controller, and I am really happy with it thus far.

4 out of 5 eggsSurprisingly Solid for the Price

Pros: -Very high quality construction. Doesn't feel flimsy or cheap.
-Plug and play installation. Has a driver package but it doesn't appear to be explicitly required.
-Throttle and stick can either be attached together or used as two separate pieces.
-Supports both PC and PS3 with the flick of a switch.
-Buttons can be remapped in custom setups that save to memory in the stick itself.
-Using the Home button when attached to a PC is a quick and easy toggle for the rudder twist function.

Cons: -May not have enough buttons to support exclusively controlling with the stick in all games.
-Cable that runs between throttle and stick when separated is much too short and hard wired so you can't extend it easily.
-Remapping function is confusing and unintuitive. Can only be done on the stick and not through software.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this stick for Elite: Dangerous and eventually for other space games. I have to say, it's an incredibly good value. It's very rare that you see something this cheap that's also this well built. This feels more solid than the Saitek X-52, despite being less than half the price. Unfortunately, playing Elite: Dangerous purely on the stick is not possible due to it not having quite as many buttons, an advantage the Saitek sticks have. I also wish the cable that ran between the throttle and stick modules was either longer or that they gave you the option to extend it with USB extension cables and the like. I can't use it as far apart as I'd like right now and extending the cable would require taking it apart and obviously I don't want to void the warranty.

Beyond this and the confusing button remapping function (which most people won't need anyway), this is the best beginner flight stick I've ever seen and the price is fantastic. I whole heartedly recommend this for space game enthusiasts or if you're just starting out with flight sims.

5 out of 5 eggsTruly Remarkable

Pros: Sturdy Construction
Intelligent Button Placement
Smooth Action
Large Throttle with Solid Feel

Cons: Minor Silicone Castings Leftover
Limited Rudder Movement
Stick is Better for Smaller Hands

Other Thoughts: Go pay $35 for a joystick and see what you get, by comparison to the other sticks in the similar price bracket there's no contest. I've flown on Saitek joysticks since 2002, back when they were making quality products. Since being acquired by MadCatz, Saitek is garbage at best. Every stick I've bought form them has literally fallen apart in my hands. I didn't want to venture out and see a new brand for more than 50$. This stick is made of plastic, but not the cheap flimsy plastic, its a very heavy thick grade of higher quality than most household plastics. The buttons were all very firm and responsive, as well as within easy and intelligent reach of my fingers. The throttle is silky, and has a notch to let you know when you've hit center throttle, and made for a man's hand. The stick, however, is made for a much smaller hand, and seems to pair with the throttle oddly in that way.
The only things I immediately noticed was that there were bits of silicone that had pressed out from underneath the top plate of the stick, and that the rudder motion was limited.

5 out of 5 eggslove it

Pros: great flight stick love the layout and where all the buttons are. Use this for Bf3/4 and arma 3, great response times in both heli and jet use.

Cons: dont open my monsters and keep the cool for

Other Thoughts: in arma 3 you can only use the top 50% of the throttle for heli's and make sure you use the analog thrust when mapping. this is not the sticks fault at all it is arma's because they do not think people would use joysticks to fly....they prefer everyone use keyboard and mouse.

3 out of 5 eggsWindows 8 PLug and Play

Pros: I like the fact this is a HOTAS stick under $100. Most of the buttons are easy to press with an exception. the HAT on the top of the joystick is in a good place. I can easily change fire modes with the hat. Many of the throttle buttons are easy to press. The height of the stick is in a good place so I didn't need to adjust my chair or monitor.
USB is about 8ft long from stick to plug.

Cons: The trigger is a big con to me. It is hard plastic. This means my index finger is pressing on the corner of the trigger for most of my play time. I cannot train myself yet to find a different part of the trigger, or use another finger to fire.
The trigger feels like it should have been a two stage piece but the sensor was a cheaper model and only has one stage of firing. Because of the amount of distance the trigger takes to register, I cannot use butterfly presses. I wish I could calibrate it like you would on a good trigger calibrated paintball gun.
The bottom of the sticks have plastic pads. This makes the stick move around if you start using the Yaw function on twisting the stick. I havn't had it come entirely off the desk so much I blame it for losses, but I did notice I kept rotating the stick counter clockwise. So, down was now 7 o'clock position.

Other Thoughts: I have not used the preset function to set up different profiles. I liked the resistance on the stick to start, but you can increase or decrease joystick resistance with a dial on bottom.

I might recommend another joystick with better trigger, or get a combo separately. I was new to joystick gaming for this century and wanted to update my relics. For $50 I can research other sticks and throttles for my space game ED.

5 out of 5 eggsMy Budget Star Citizen HOTAS

Pros: This is identical to my old Thrustmaster Top Gun Afterburner HOTAS with a few updates. It has PS3 and PC support, a few more buttons and programmable features and black not sliver. To all of you that might be on the fence about buying this,.. My old model was purchased by my older brother in about 2003 and handed down to me a few years later. I used it for about 6 years and used it pretty regularly. Then I handed it down to my younger brother. It still works!!

Now with the Star Citizen Dog Fighting Module coming out very soon, I needed a new one. I really cant afford $150+ dollars and since I had such good luck with my old one I couldn't not buy this.

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: If you are either new to this kind of controller or just on a budget like most of use, this is in my opinion, the best HOTAS you can buy for such little money. Durable, Easy to Learn, Smooth, Comfortable, Functional and best of all, affordable.
