5 out of 5 eggsFantastic indoor cam for price on sale

Pros: Great deal when on sale. Good solid mount. Wifi range is decent. User interface works pretty well. Sending image captures to my remote FTP server worked easy and proper the first time... Resolution is good for the price.

Cons: Only security is WEP... Come on TrendNet, get with the program, who the fuzuck uses WEP... So I had to setup an older junk access point for 128ASCII WEP to secure things... 100% worthless in full sun or pitch dark, but I already knew that...

Other Thoughts:, do not buy if you're planning to put this in direct sun, outside or pitch dark conditions... Otherwise when this thing goes back on sale, I will be buying a few more!

1 out of 5 eggsNice Features - Poor picture quality

Pros: Was cheap if you got for under a hundred. The web interface is easy to navigate. Works well under perfect lighting.

Cons: You get what you pay for

Other Thoughts: After using this camera for awhile, you will notice two major issues: bright light completely washes out any picture. Used under dim light, nothing is visible unless you have a 40watt or greater light on all times.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsNice camera

Pros: I got it on sale, so the price was right. I downloaded software from their website instead of using the CD and it installed easily.

Has trigger outputs on a connector for hooking up stuff like alarm bells.

It hasn't lost a wifi connection in the week I've had it.

Cons: Using it in indoor lighting, picture quality is not great, even at best settings. People and objects are easily recognizable, though. At lesser quality settings people are recognizable if you're familiar with them.

Recording uses up lots of storage at best settings. Can trigger recording with motion and schedule but nothing else.

You can program it to point at eight positions but it will only scan thru them once when you click the 'Patrol' button. It'd be nice if it keep scanning on its own until told to stop.

It gets warmer on the bottom than I thought it would.

It works best with IE but it does work with Firefox, too. Gotta have java installed. IE on my laptop will not let the activex plugin install, so I tried it with firefox. It displays the live view okay but some settings/controls are missing.

Other Thoughts: I got this one to test and learn about digital surveillance cameras for a project I'm working on. It works almost too well to be a proper learning experience - not enough problems.

I ran an output file (AVI format) of 76 MB thru Handbrake and shrunk it to 677 KB. It was still usable but hard to look at.

It really is a fun thing to have connected to your network. Now I want one to put outdoors that can see in the dark.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor at handling Light areas

Pros: Good entry level security camera for INDOORS under recessed average lighting.

Cons: 'This camera is an indoor camera and can not handle outdoor lighting.' Nor can it handle well lit INDOOR areas such as those under bright flourescent lighting. It washes out the bright areas making them invisible.

Other Thoughts: Having said that it it terrible at handling brightly lit INDOOR areas and ALL outdoor areas, I'll keep it as I want to watch my dog.

4 out of 5 eggsGood indoor camera

Pros: Good low-cost indoor camera for viewing. I like the feature of clicking on the video image and the camera rotating to center that location.

Cons: Bad for bright/sunlight areas

Other Thoughts: I hoped to use this for keeping an eye on the kids in the backyard, but the camera does not work at all in bright sun light. perhaps some filters would correct, but don't know if I can find any plus they would be difficult to attach.

4 out of 5 eggsAt $100... excellent value

Pros: At the $100 price point this is an excellent value. I am waiting for it to go at that price again to buy another. PQ is adequate for my needs. WIFI makes the installation considerably easier since only a power outlet is the relevant concern for installation.

Cons: SMTP auth is very basic. Does not support TLS/SSL for use with email accounts like Hotmail or Yahoo! which IMHO is an excellent way to store the images which are uploaded via email.

Other Thoughts: Camera CAN be mounted upside down with the included mounting plate and hardware. I have it installed this way on my hallway ceiling and TRENDnet verified that this is a supported configuration. Ceiling installation provides the best pan/scan field of view vs. right side up which has limited ability to pan the camera angle down.

4 out of 5 eggsworks great for the price

Pros: This knocks the socks off my Linksys WVC54GCA - this has slightly better picture quality but this camera's lens is much wider. With the cameras in the same spot, I see nearly twice as much of the room as compared to the linksys (cameras are on top of cabinet near ceiling watching over an open room). Setup was simple, didn't need to directions. Panning works well - can see 90% of a 15'x30' area with this in the middle of one of the 30' walls.

Cons: Tilt angle isn't the greatest - I have this near the ceiling and with it tilted as low as it goes, I can only see about 4-5 feet out from the camera.

Other Thoughts: Got this for $99.99 with yesterday's promo code - for $100 bucks this is a great camera. Not sure I can same the same at the regular price.

4 out of 5 eggsA fine wireless camera for those on a budget

Pros: good wireless connectivity and camera control, good software, fairly easy to setup, tech support was helpful with setup issues.

Cons: image quality is acceptable but could be better - a 5 on a scale of 1-10

Other Thoughts: It works as described. No problems.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product

Pros: Easy to initially setup. Has a good range. Motor is extremly quiet.

Cons: Takes a lot of tweaking to get perfect. Indoor only. Does not like bright indoor lighting. Can't mount upside down.

Other Thoughts: It is a good solid camera for the price.

4 out of 5 eggsgood price performance

Pros: Great picture even in lower light. Better image at night with lights on than my older Panasonic BL-C30a.

Cons: Tilt down is only 15 degress, so you can really only put this below eye level, as putting it any higher will make it impossible to "look down" at things, though looking up is a good 90 degrees. Wish is can pan/tilt based on where you click on the image (i.e. centers the image to where you click); the Panasonic BL-C30a does this.
