4 out of 5 eggsGood cheap camera

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: - at $32 it is definitely the cheapest wireless IP camera available.
- resolution is adjustable and while not amazing more than good enough for a security camera. If you want refresh rates higher just lower the resolution a little.
- It does have a web interface hosted on the device for configuring it with quite a few options for a regular user like myself.
- Seems to support multiple users, so you could add someone temporarily then remove them.
- It seems to handle looking through my window just fine, although the sun isn't bright; there is definitely glare and reflection, but I would expect that and I can see through it.
- The web interface is easy to use, especially considering I didn't have to mess with my firewall, or do anything special.
- The Android app also works well, and has the ability to scan for local and cloud cameras which is a nice feature for refresh rates when used as a baby monitor rather than security camera.

Cons: - Definitely not for a novice, it requires at least an intermediate IT level to install and configure.
- The CD install wouldn't run without updating itself, but couldn't update itself on windows 8.1, so I had to manually install the update it downloaded.
- While it does adjust itself for lighting level, it's not great and bright light coming in through the window does wash my face out.

Other Thoughts: It is a cheap camera, and so far I am loving it. I have only just set it up so I don't know how bad the java updates people complain about are, but it did ask me to update mine on first access. There is a setting to switch viewing to ActiveX on the camera, if the java issue gets too bad I might try that.

At this moment I am very happy with it, and if things continue I will probably buy a few more.

3 out of 5 eggsgood item so far

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: good physical size, good picture quality, smartphone app works good.

Cons: hard to find what you need on the Dlink website. Not sure why it needs to update Java everytime you access camera from a pc....Initial setup required lots of updates. Wireless setup not easy and not for a novice.
Dlink site says latest firmware is 1.08 but running 1.09?

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: inexpensive

Cons: took a while to set up. unlike the description in the write-up here

Other Thoughts: Hey it's a cheap price but it does the job. But only during the day or when the lights are on at night. I use this to view my ailing father (who lives with me) while I am at work. From the app it only takes a few seconds and then the picture appears. It works just fine

5 out of 5 eggsKiller camera for $35

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: $35 including tax and shipping. Works as advertised. Easy setup. Can bypass mydlink buy using local IP on LAN. Wireless works much better than expected, was planning on using wired, but even with my Verizon G router, wireless works great.

Android app works fine.

Neweggs shipping is so fast its scary. I ordered it on Sunday, had it on Monday.

Cons: Provided mount doesn't provide much of a tilt unless you flip the camera body (which in my case makes the lens to low)

Doesn't work at all in the dark (it is not supposed to, but its still a con)

The my dlink deal is not appealing to me. I understand the reason but dont like it. If this was for anything other than my front patio, I wouldn't get it since requires me to relinquish control of my camera to Dlink.

Regardless, none of that is enough to lose an egg.

Other Thoughts: This was a total impulse buy because of the price.

I had been wanting a cheap IP camera for my front patio since I work at home upstairs and usually don't hear the doorbell.

This thing is perfect for what I wanted.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter than a Trendnet TV-IP110WN

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: Good browser compatibility
Easy to set up
Solid wireless connection to an Asus RT-N56U router
WEP or WPS security
Decent image
Audio

Cons: Base mount must use supplied screws
No focusing ability but fixed focus seems acceptable.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a Trendnet TV-IP110WN wireless camera that died. I have a half-dozen of those. This cam is a step up for a reasonable price. Newegg has them on sale for $45 or $70 for two. It works well in both MS-IE and Firefox browsers with Java or ActiveX. The Trendnet is a bit sketchy in recent versions of both, since the jpg browser plugin is old. The mount and camera are slimmer than the Trendnet's package.

3 out of 5 eggsCamera OK, Software Sucks

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: I have D-Link Router which works well so I bought this camera to go with it as I wanted a wireless system. I didn't realize that the internet must be used to see the picture from this ethernet camera. I assumed wrongly that a camera, router, computer internal system could be set up... but no. Seems like that "should be" an option.... perhaps time will tell.

Camera set up easily out of the box on my Win7/64 system. The picture quality is also ok with a constant red or blue line that scrolls on screen. Makes it look like a "security camera" and is tolerable.

I tried for two days to get the mydlink software to work: No Joy. ManyCam and YawCam software also would not connect. Then I found BlueIris (two weeks for free then reasonable cost) and it connected just as anyone would wish as did ISpy which is free. After these programs connected, I went back to mydlink and it is now connecting but then disconnects in a constant loop. I don't know if a drop down box needs to be checked or what but its always "humorous" when a Manufacturer's own software won't work when a generic brand does. I thought these people borrowed code from one another??

The camera needs to be placed about 15 feet away from my desk that I want under surveillance. My next camera will be more fish eye and I think higher resolution so that the item of interest "in the field of vision" can be focused on.

Security Software: should have a setting to make it invisible on the computer--not obvious to anyone coming in to steal. Maybe that is a setting I can't find either.

Cons: 1. Monitoring software works well, recording software does not work at all.
