5 out of 5 eggsExcellent IP Camera for the money

Pros: This product was arrived as described. It came within 3 days as promised. It was extremely easy to setup if you understand your network. Even if you are not a technical expert, you just need to follow installation guide to setup, step by step. It’s a very simple and easy setup process.

The resolution of this camera is amazing. I t supports 1024 x 1024 (H.264) which provides great quality of image. I am able to watch it from computer (chrome/firefox/IE) and my android phone, anywhere, as long as you have data plan for your phone. It does absolutely everything you would want it to do.

The picture quality at night with build-in IR LED is excellent too.

I installed this camera on my front porch with the included mounting bracket. When UPS/FedEx deliver packages, I can use 2-way audio to ask the leave the package. It is awesome!!!

This camera includes a SD slot for video storage which I didn’t use it yet. It looks like a nice feature too.

Cons: I can’t put it outdoor because the camera is not weather-proof. I wish Edimax can offer some cases for outdoor use.

Other Thoughts: Don’t recommend you to use Internet Explorer for monitoring. I use Chrome instead of IE because IE kept no response. I had to close IE manually from task manager. If you have smartphone, download the free APP which works great on my phone.

4 out of 5 eggsSatisfactory

Pros: Very easy to setup that even with little technical knowledge anybody can handle. Fair quality picture, good price, eCloud works OK.

Cons: Some how the ip camera stopped working one day and could not access it. The solution was to disconnect it from power source to reboot the cam. It's been working OK since.

Other Thoughts: I hope the camera keeps working with out issues for a long time or I am going to regret giving it a four egg rating. Newegg always delivers on time no big issue or DOA with the products I have purchased so far.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat and Cheap Camera

Pros: Cheap, Large Range of Motion, Great Video Quality

Cons: Obtrusive looking, Square pixel format

Other Thoughts: I own three IP Cameras (Foscam FI9821 and DLink DCS 5222L are the other two) and the Edimax is one of my favorite (DLink is great, but twice the price - I'm not a big fan of the Foscam). This little camera does what its suppose to. I should state that I have port forwarded each one through my router so I connect very differently than most may. I believe Edimax gives you a URL to connect to. The color is pretty good, the quality is great, and it has a tremendous amount of range and movement. It moves very fast as well. Audio is great as well (that was my major problem with the Foscam). The DLink is a little better in picture quality, but its twice the amount. I'll still state my only real complaint is how it looks. Its a bit of an eye sore, but for what we are using it for, its fine. I haven't really dived into having it record on camera either. I actually think there may be some issues I can into on that.

2 out of 5 eggsStrange image colors

Pros: Nice feature set: Megapixel resolution (not the only indicator of good image quality), pan, tilt, and night vision. Cool looking design and fast web interface. Good H.264 compression to save bandwidth for those megapixel streams.

Cons: Mediocre image quality and poor color rendition. For some reason the camera images and video feed had a pink hue to everything! And it wasn’t just pink, the other colors were off too. Was it broken? I don’t know. The colors are way off and it’s going back to newegg.

I have another network camera I wanted to replace with the Edimax IC-7110W, but my current one has better image quality and the colors aren't wrong. The funny thing is the other camera has a lower image resolution but the image quality is still better!

I’m also a bit disappointed with the Edimax web interface, it is much more lacking than what I am used too. Not bad, but not nearly as many options or configurations.

Other Thoughts: I’m going back to my old brand of network cameras; they cost more but the image quality, colors, and web interface are much better. I’m starting to think you get what you pay for in network cameras.

If you are willing to live with wonky colors and so-so interface, Edimax is a good deal. If you don’t mind spending more for better image quality and a more robust interface, look somewhere else.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We appreciate your feedback and we are sorry for the difficulty you had experienced.

We feel regretted that the model you purchased does not support Infrared Cut Filter (ICR) feature. Without ICR feature, the picture will have color shading effect under exposure of sunlight or equivalent to sunlight. But the resolution and the focus will not be effected. There is a focus ring surround the lens and you can manually turn the focus to get better image.

The IP cams which provide night vision function but does not equip ICR feature will face the same color shading issue. Current this model does not have ICR feature. Our next advanced model will support ICR feature to eliminate this problem.

Again we appreciate your feedback and sorry for the difficulty you have.
If there is anything we still can do for you, please contact us at 408-988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". We look forward to the opportunity to serve you again soon.

Best regards,
Edimax Tech Support Team

5 out of 5 eggsManual

Pros: On sale!
Pan/tilt, Decent picture (I can read the cover of magazines in the room), MANY other features!

Cons: Huh?

Other Thoughts: Didn't even bother to open the manual or use the CD software. Works without internet connection. Using LAN cables to connect to my network. Really, just log into the camera like you would a router. In fact, if you log into your router 1st then go to DHCP page and click on the Client Table your router will give you the IP Camera's IP address on YOUR network to log into. After you log into the camera (you will need that business card that is in the box the camera was in) you will have FULL access to all the camera's features. Of course the email alerts and such won't work without an internet connection but the setup pages are available to fill out. Also have it working with Firefox but only in MJPEG mode. Still need IE for MPEG4 and H.264.
Have this camera working with another different Edimax camera by just opening another instance of Firefox and logging into the other camera.
Having fun testing these cameras so far!

2 out of 5 eggsFailed potential

Pros: The attraction of this is the easy setup and cloud access. Unfortunately, it fails in proper execution in this, ultimately frustrating the user more than satisfying. The initial setup worked well (enough), but final use destroyed that good feeling.

Cons: The following initial observations:
1) The cloud/remote access appears to work when you are in the same LAN, but when you are truly remote, it does not work. (E.g. on the iPad, or via any browser, it never connects.).
2) The motion detection is way off. It appears that shadows from outside (e.g. sun in the trees and wind) cause the camera inside to "sense" motion. I have this setup to send an email when motion is detected. Getting 100 emails every morning for nothing is not very useful. The ability to shut this off remotely doesn't exist either (see, among other things, point 1...remote access doesn't work).
3) The camera's resolution is significantly worse than one would expect. Not terrible for the price, but pretty mediocre.
4) the switch over to night vision in automatic mode is rather arbitrary and seems inappropriate.
5) The colors in low light are strange. A web cam does a better job.
6) No easy way to temporarily suspend motion detection from an "app" (e.g. their touted iPad app).

Other Thoughts: All, in all, no worse than many of these that I have played with over the years, but still a disappointment when you expect to get more by paying more. The bang for the buck is marginal.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the problems you had experienced.

Can you please observe the Power LED of the Camera? If the Power LED is solid, it is connected to the Cloud Server. If the power LED is flashing, it is not connected to the Cloud Server. Usually the problem is caused by two NAT routers in the network. If there are two gateways/routers in the network, the cloud connection can not go through properly from Remote location.

You can use Internet Explorer to setup three detection regions for Motion Detection. By doing so, you can just detect areas like doorstep. You also may lower the sensitivity of the Motion Detection.

There is a manual focus ring surround the Lens. You may try adjust the focus.

Please feel free to contact us to get it replaced if you want. You can reach us at (408)-988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". We look forward to the opportunity to serve you again soon.

Best regards,

1 out of 5 eggsNewegg let me down

Pros: None

Cons: Still waiting for delivery. When I ordered there was no indication that Newegg was shut down for inventory. As the days passed, I was given no notification of any delay. As I am used to consistent delivery in 2 days, this delay of over a week now is consternating when I leave for vacation tomorrow with no way to store video and pics.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the delivery issue you are experiencing.
We will feedback your issue to Newegg to take proper acting to solve your problem.
Hopefully your will receive your order soon.

2 out of 5 eggsNot so Great

Pros: - Reasonable price for a megapixel camera when on sale.
- Tech support was very responsive, although a bit hard to understand.

Cons: - Could not get it to work remotely using a paid No-IP account, would only work on the local network.
- Wireless didn't even work on LAN.
- Color was poor, green trees looked pink.
- According to tech support, Cloud viewing doesn't provide any camera controls like pan, and is only 320 x 240 rez.
- Ran really hot, measured 125 deg on bottom with my Rosewill IR thermometer.

Other Thoughts: I see some reviewers made it work, so I bow to all of you. I'm somewhat familiar with networking and port forwarding, but still ended up spending at least 3 hours on the phone with tech support. They actually downloaded a manual for my DIR-655 router, and walked through all the steps to port it with no luck. My neighbor allowed me to hook into his Linksys router, and tech support walked me through that setup, again without luck. I also tried MANY hours of other setups on my own for both routers, and finally gave up and RMA'd it.

I see I can't comment on the restocking fee, so I won't.

Bought a cheap $75 640x480 PTZ until I can find a megapixel that works, and had it running remotely and wireless within a half hour without tech support.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you had experienced.

Can you please use the v1.9PnV firmware for IC-7110W? It should work with no-ip dyndns.org.

The Cloud viewing can perform pan tile after you click on the PanTilt button. Please see the attachment.

For port forwarding in DIR-655, you need to open port 80, 554, 50000-60000. It is possible the support person you talked with did not know you can use hyphen for ports range in DIR-655 settings.

Please contact our customer support at (408)-988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our support team will assist you.

2 out of 5 eggsprefer the foscam

Pros: better resolution than the PTZ foscam's which it is comparable to. Night vision is not bad at 20+ feet

Cons: status lights in front of the camera can not be turned off (to my knowledge), my factory reset button did not work, pan motion makes louder noise than foscam

3 out of 5 eggsOverpriced

Pros: Worked fine for me as an IP cam using DDNS. Setup was easy. Night vision is good. Viewer interface works good.

Cons: Picture is a bit grainy but I can live with that.. The e-cloud feature didn't work on my Verizon 4G LTE network.

Other Thoughts: I bought this camera to use on my mobile Verizon 4G LTE network. My Verizon IP address is private (10.x.x.x), so DDNS is out of the question. Therefore the cloud is my only practical alternative. There reportedly are cloud cams that work with Verizon 4G. This apparently is not one of them. The android app "Ediview" could never externally access this camera when it was sitting on my Verizon 4G LTE network.
