1 out of 5 eggsVivotek IP8332

Pros: The email works and allows for custom ports.

Cons: Incredibly poor motion detection engine. Impossible to properly tune outside. Detection levels change between day and night mode. Camera noise in low light will trip motion detection. If this camera is tuned not to nuisance trip then it will not detect a man walking at 45’. This is true even for a small detection window over a static concrete driveway. 94 sensitivity and 3%.
Connection cable is only long enough for installs where you will pass the cable through the wall directly behind the camera bracket.
I would return these if they were not on a 25’ pole.

Other Thoughts: I've installed many DVRs, NVRs and IP cameras. If your NVR is on constant record then there's no problem. If you're using flash card storage or an NVR where you have to record based on the camera's motion detection then do not buy.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible bang for the buck

Pros: These cameras offer a ton of feature for the price, so much so that I ordered a couple more and have decided to standardized on Vivotek cameras across the board.
4 separate video streams
On board motion detection
Ability to add up to a 32GB micro SD card
Ability to record two video streams simultaneously (I have one recording to my NAS on one to the onboard SD card).
Ability to set multiple “trigger” events. I have my camera setup to send me a text message on system reboot. If it detects motion, the camera sends me a text message, sends me an email with a snapshot attached, sends high resolution snapshots to my FTP server, sends high resolution video clip to my FTP server
Power over Ethernet

Cons: Documentation isn’t the greatest. Be prepared to play with your cameras a bit to get things dialed in like you want them
The on-board web server code still has some bugs. Some areas I can only configure using IE, others I need to use Chrome

Other Thoughts: The big thing that I haven’t seen anyone mention is the free ST7501 recording software that Vivotek offers. The software is a little overkill as it can handle 32 cameras at once and is setup more for watching the cameras at a place like a Casino. The thing I like about the software is not only does it make it easy to manage all my cameras at one but it can also handle recording duties and will even delete older files so you don’t overfill your hard drive. Software comes in three parts:
Server which runs in the background and does all the actual work
Live Client that lets you connect/manage the Server software and actually view your live camera feeds
Playback Client that lets you easily look up previously recorded videos and play them back

I run the Server portion on my NAS box and the two clients on my main box.

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent bang for the buck, iffy IR illumination

Pros: Excellent picture quality
Lots of configuration options
Excellent low light/night vision abilities
Great value for the dollar

Cons: IR halo effect in night mode
Cheesy mounting hardware

Other Thoughts: Compared to network cams costing more than twice as much the 8332 delivers a lot of quality for a relatively low price. The picture quality is excellent and there's a lot of configuration options available.

The only problem I've had is with a halo effect in when the IR light comes on in night mode. Do a search on "IP8332 ir halo" to see threads I've started or participated in regarding this along with sample pics but so far Vivotek doesn't seem to have a good response. Long story short the IR light reflects off the outer lens cover and bleeds through to the lens itself which shows up annoyingly on your viewing device. The "hood" surrounding the lens that's supposed to prevent this doesn't do so effectively, at least not with the 3 I've purchased and is the one thing preventing me from swapping out my remaining 4 analog cams. Their support made an effort but was like pulling teeth to get a response, and when I finally did they sent the wrong "hood" to replace mine.

Fortunately you can disable the IR light on the cam, which I did, and am using standalone IR illuminators. I'm getting excellent night mode video using this setup but disappointed I can't use the internal IR.

5 out of 5 eggsA perfect solution for my home and office

Pros: I had been looking to update my analog camera system and DVR and wanted to invest in a quality megapixel IP solution that I could rely on to give me images that could actually be useful in the event that something happened at my house and I needed evidence.

The Vivotek IP8332 was recommended time and time again on various forums and I was able to find video demos on YouTube that seemed to show that this was a great investment for under 500 bucks per cam, which in the world of IP cams is actually very cheap!

Cons: The manual is a bit sketchy but if you read through it and go into the menus and experiment you can easily figure it out and get some amazing results

Other Thoughts: The camera has the ability to stream 4 different quality and resolution streams via web interface, droid or other smartphone, email pictures of events or upload to a storage device such as a NAS. Using the built in Linux OS it even has the ability to setup Dynamic DNS and IP forwarding for access outside of your network. I use IP Cam Viewer Lite (Free for up to 5 cams) on my droid and am able to keep tabs on everything at home even when away.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy setup, HD quality, and high quality build

Pros: Amazed by the quality/price point! Easy setup and includes free NVR software which is surprisingly good. Camera does HD quality without using too much processing power. Good IR range. One thing that was important was ONVIF standards since I will be using a couple different brands. By far, I think the Vivotek cameras are the best bang for the buck right now.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Great value. Had to change a couple settings to get the IR functioning properly but that wasn't a big deal. I plan to continue buying other Vivotek cameras. Wish there were more detailed reviews available but I guess they're sort of new.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Camera

Pros: Video quality, durability, wiring options, web interface, motion detection works great, amazing night vision quality. There are a lot of networking options for output and streaming. It works great for storing the video on a computer or network hard drive.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: The knob for tightening the swivel point needed to be broken in a little bit, but that was easy to do.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat IP camera

Pros: Price - Great
Value -Great
Video Quality - Great
Ease of use - Great
Features - Great

Cons: The included pedestal mount is sub-par but that's really no big deal, just pick-up a decent mount and you'll be set. On-line documentation is really good so don't rely too much on the included quick guide.

Other Thoughts: I looked everywhere for this camera and Newegg had it in stock and at a great price. Got it the next day and had it installed and running within a couple hours, (mounted outside).
IR works well at night, just as advertised,...color at night too if you want. I'm using the H.264 capability and I love it, uses more CPU cycles but consumes very little bandwidth.

I'll definitely get another one of these in the future. For the features nothing else comes close in my opinion.
