4 out of 5 eggsNot bad. Workable.

Pros: I got this on sale here at NewEgg. (I'd advise waiting for another sale.) IR works great.

Cons: Support in my WebcamXP wasn't exactly out of the box, but it ran fine on a Foscam camera setting until I got everything updated. Much like my Foscams, it has color issues which may put off some, but it doesn't keep you from seeing what's going on. It's a little tricky finding drivers/support on the Zmodo website.

Other Thoughts: These kinds of IP/IR cameras are best used for recording indoors. I do have two similar models recording out a window, but you have to disable their IR to be able to see anything at night because the IR will bounce back off the window and blind the camera.

2 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: When they worked they worked fine.
I bought 4 of these cameras a year ago.

Cons: They do not last! Out of the 4 I bought, only one is working now. One of the units that failed got so hot I could not hold it for long. I am very dissatisfied with the failure of these units. The other thing I notice with these is they arbitrarily cut off and then point to the sky. My suggestion is to not waste your money on these cameras. You also get very little help from Zmodo's website also.

Other Thoughts: I would buy these for someone you would want to be burglarized.LOL

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: -It has PT without the Z (pan/tile/zoom)
-Wireless (when it works)

Cons: -Wireless gave out
-Most features of this camera do not work
-Does not work with Milestone or any other popular surveillance systems
-Cannot get the camera to work with the software that came with it
-Phantom firmware updata

Other Thoughts: This camera is not worth the money. Buy a quality camera. The night vision is what got me to buy this. When I got this camera, i played with the features and found that only half of them worked. Most settings will not save at all. I have been eagerly anticipating a firmware update to hopefully resolve some issues for a few years now. I can not even find the current firmware to reflash this. This camera is not compatible with most surveillance software programs out there. The camera doesn't even want to work with it's own software. The camera interface is clunky. I can see a lot of features that could be nice but none of them work. It's as if they planned to fully integrate these features in a future update that just never came. Save your money, do not by this camera. If purchasing for a surveillance system, go with Axis instead.

4 out of 5 eggsYep.

Pros: Cheap. Werks if you know what you are doing. Plug it in (or go wifi), give is a static IP (or permanent DHCP lease), Forward port 99 on yer router, get yerself a DDNS service (like DYNDNS dot org) and be done.

Cons: Product was probably rushed to market (so you weekend warriors will struggle), but if you spend a moment to get it going; maybe doing a few minutes of search engine werk, you will smile when you can peer around the room you set it up in - from a remote location.

Other Thoughts: For $50 dollars, I have the ability to remotely view (plus pan and tilt) my baby cat while I werk. 15 years ago, I could not have paid $1,000 for this ability. Those folks who write these reviews off the cuff, venting their own inabilities and short attention spans, we must ignore or de-emphasize - like a passing billboard.

1 out of 5 eggsFirmware is terrible

Pros: This camera came ready to go and easy to set up and install. The FTP, DNS and email alerts are really nice features and the configuration is easy to follow.

Cons: The firmware is terrible. I've tried to use IE, Chrome, Firefox and the zoom feature does not work. The interface changes from browser to browser. Not worth the money and I can't seem to find an alternative software to run this. The website has no updated firmware that I've been able to find.

Other Thoughts: Probably would have spent more money on a better camera if I would have known how bad the software was going to be.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Please accept our apologies for your negative experience with our product and service. The firmware is an older looking style, and we do not have an update at this time. However, the current firmware format is operational. IE, Chrome, and Firebox all will work with this camera. This camera is only a Pan and Tilt camera there is no zoom feature on this camera.

We would appreciate the opportunity to work with you to solve any other issues you may also have. The best ways to contact us is call 866-551-6881 and/or email us at We look forward to working with you to improve your Zmodo experience.

Best Regards,

2 out of 5 eggsPain in the neck- Do not buy

Pros: good FPS through active X IExplorer browser
decent picture quality
Good and quick WIFI G connection.

Cons: - Short power adapter cord
- Not very snuggy power port allowing power cord to disconnect from device at the slightest movement powering it down
- Goes to full pan rotation to zero position on boot (disabling it through software interface does not work)
- No zoom (known before purchase)
-No DDNS : although advertised and DDNS info written at the bottom of the camera but doesn't work, manufacturer did not apologize for that or offers solutions.
- obliges to use ACTIVE x over MS internet explorer to get full software
- No firmware update-
-Tricky Wireless set up in secured network, starting with a Lan set up makes things easier : 2 MAc address
- a bit noisy pan-tilt (could be heard outside a remotely monitored)
- Horrible noise interference when using mic or listening to sound through device.

Other Thoughts: HAS 2 different MAC addresses LAN and WAN, make sure to add the WAN one to your mac filter list to get the wireless to work.
This thing has been useful economic money wise but frustrating and time consuming especially with the email alerts set up.
bought this for 50$ more than 1.5 years ago, and it's price kept fluctuating since then.

3 out of 5 eggsGood camera for 50 bucks - with issues.

Pros: Good little camera. Picked up two. Better night vision than I expected. 10m+ easy. Video quality is about what you'd expect with 640x480.

Cons: I seem to be encountering an issue, which appears more frequently after setting up zone minder, that both cameras reboot at close if not exactly the same time. When this camera reboots it sends the camera on a calibration sequence that always end up with the camera pointed in an odd direction. This causes zone minder to freak out as well as pointing the camera away from the desired location.

Other Thoughts: There are many different vendors for this same camera and many of them are 50 bucks so pick one of those up instead of this at 90+ currently. It appears some of the vendors are providing firmware support while I have not been able to locate any firmware on the zmodo site. One of the other vendors may be better.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Pan & Tilt Camera!

Pros: The first one I received did not pan. But I returned it and it was replaced and worked just fine out of the box. Video and snapshots resolution are adequate, don't expect high resolution for a price like this. I access the camera from anywhere in the world as I travel. I placed mine under the eaves of my house away from any rain. It has worked at all temperatures from 65 down to below zero. Configuration allows 3 types of user access that can be password protected. On motion detection the video or snapshots can be emailed to alert you. Motion detection can be enable 24/7 by selecting all 7 days and half-hour increments or less if you only want it active during a certain time and/or day.

Cons: There are a couple of issues with the firmware. The selection to upload image on alarm is inverted so you can't set the delay between the 6 snapshots. Sensitivity is good but whenever there is a change in ambient lighting, the AGC also kicks off a motion detection - no big deal after you recognize the pattern of emails. The wireless interferes with my garage door openers such that I have to be within 10 feet of the door to open or close it. Not the camera's fault but my openers either need to have their frequencies changed or improved shielding on the antenna. I will probably try the shielding first. This not much of an issue since I turn the camera off when I'm home.

Other Thoughts: For the money, I believe this is a good camera. Support from Zmodo is excellent! When I was having trouble with the configuration, the support tech and I discovered the selection inversion and he noted that for further reference. I contact support each month to see if there are any planned firmware updates but nothing so far. I don't have my hopes high for that since this camera is manufactured for many suppliers such as Foscam. You can try out Zmodo's camera at and use 11111111 as the password.
