3 out of 5 eggsFairly Good for All-in-One

Pros: You get everything you need, aside from HDMI cables, in one box. The usage of the device is pretty straight forward.

Cons: Sub-woofer cracked and will require replacement and the model is just over 7 months old. Changing between inputs can take 10-20 seconds, appearing to not be receiving a signal during said time. Frequent issues streaming Netflix.

Other Thoughts: Not a horrible first choice. Still, the Netflix streaming issues can really put a damper on movie night.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat system

Pros: Great sound, easy setup, iPod/iPhone dock, able to use a great remote app on my iPhone & iPad that controls everything including my music from my iPhone library.

Cons: 1) Why did I wait so long?!?
2) Now I need a matching 60" LG TV, lol.

Other Thoughts: My living room was already wired for a system (rear surround speakers) & I was looking for a system that would take advantage of that instead of having to replace those wires because some manufacturers utilize proprietary cables like Samsung, Sony, & Panasonic. Ripping out functional wires is no bueno...anyone want my old Samsung speaker bar, :D

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing performance and warranty

Pros: When the system works (which it did for a month or so), it has a lot of nice features. Picture and sound looked great and the ability to wirelessly stream Netflix was convenient.

Cons: After about a month of use, the picture began to flicker during playback (Blu Ray, DVD and streaming content), eventually going black while the player powered off by itself. This requires a reboot after each occurrence, which takes a couple of minutes or so, which is extremely annoying as it happens in the middle of movies quite frequently. I first checked all of my connections, even replacing the HDMI cable, then called tech support and ran through all of their troubleshooting with them to no avail. Sent the unit in for service and received it back quickly with a message stating that no issues were observed. On the first day back in use, the same problems began again. If LG's warranty simply replaced defective units, this wouldn't be a problem. However, after the 90 day labor warranty expires, it costs $69 each time you have to send the unit back in for service - which according to LG's warranty, I might be doing in perpetuity - turning the unit into an expensive paperweight.

Other Thoughts: I understand the world's not perfect and you'll get a lemon every once in a while, but LG needs to step up and recognize the value of a more comprehensive warranty and/or replacement policy for these defective units.

4 out of 5 eggsA solid B

Pros: -Easy to set up
-Easy to use
-Good bass performance
-Good sound quality, once you tweak the "User EQ" setting
-DLNA; along w/ pictures, it plays HD MP4 video and iTunes w/o any type of format conversion/tweaking from my NAS.
-Sub is compact and like the grill-less look of the front/rear speakers
-Has an HDMI in
-Great BD quality

Cons: Bad:
-Built-in EQ modes are useless
-Forget about 'net based updates, they take FOREVER. Even though LG's site sometimes lags, wait for the update to become available and then do the USB method
-Center channel is a bit large and awkward looking
-Slight delay when the system is adjusting to program sound format. Yes, it's a little annoying, but nothing to get worked up over as it usually happens during commercials. Very rarely has it happened from a commercial-2-program transition. Has never happened to me during BD/DVD playback.
-Can sometimes be a little slow
-If you're in "Optical" mode, switch out of it and then back in, sound will not play until you
-DVD upconversion picture quality not the greatest, especially on older DVD's

Other Thoughts: I have 2 of these and am very happy w/ them. DLNA is my favorite feature, it works for me w/ no hassles; simply throw my content onto my NAS and boom. It also has good (not excellent) sound clarity once you customize the sound settings and the bass is pretty good for a HTIB. Overall, I'd recommend this and think you'll be happy as long as you're not a hardcore audiophile.

3 out of 5 eggsGood sound and blue-ray playback, but interface needs work

Pros: Overall the sound quality is good. Speech in movies is clear and well balanced with the sub, the surround output is excellent, and it gets plenty loud.

Overall the spectrum is balanced, with neither the high end or low end lacking clarity (the sub lacks some presence, but this is to expected in such a small box).

Blu-ray playback is smooth and features instant resume, etc

Cons: In addition to an overall slow interface, there are several bugs that need to be worked out. Also, the single HDMI-in is unfortunate.

Bugs:
- Sometimes when switching between audio inputs (I use an HDMI switch to deal with the above), you are forced to go the main screen and re-enable the input. Doesn't sound like a big deal but given the slow interface it is burdensome.

- On powerup, the player will randomly get stuck on a "please wait" screen that's lasts from 20 sec - 5 min. Interrupting and attempting reboots does not solve the problem.

- The update takes forever

- Overall the interface is clunky and not-responsive

- The apps are a joke

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a fairly straightforward blu-ray / surround combo, this is a good deal and a decent unit with good sound.

It's unfortunate the interface is clunky as it would be much easier to recommend if it were. Be prepared for occasional frustrations.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective on Arrival; Terrible Warranty

Pros: If it worked regularly and had a reliable warranty that replaced defective products, it would be a nice little receiver.

Cons: I purchased this home theater system in October. The system literally froze and crashed repeatedly, like a cheap computer, from the first day I started using it. One thing would make it go especially haywire: trying to turn up the volume or otherwise adjust settings whenever the system was processing anything, such as a new disc or a netflix title. The system would just freeze or turn itself off routinely. The other thing that it liked to do was crash randomly during movies and then restart with the sound effects all sounding like someone talking in a long hallway, no matter what version of surround sound you chose. Only a hard reboot would fix this problem.

Other Thoughts: I contacted LG's support people to return the receiver under the warranty. It cost me $12 in packaging materials to send it the way that they require you to send it (in a box with 4 inches of clearance and packing material throughout). I later found out that LG will not replace the defective receiver with a new model no matter if you send it in within 30 days. They fix it and return it to you and if the system still doesn't work, your only option is to send it back, and they'll fix it and return it to you again. Ad infinitum. I was specifically told that they will not replace a defective system with a new receiver unless it is returned numerous times for the same problem and not fixed. And no specific number of times was identified. In other words, LG expects you to take the risk of receiving a lemon even if you expeditiously invoke their warranty. And given their packing requirements, they can wear you down pretty quickly given the price of this system.

1 out of 5 eggsGood unless I'm watching TV

Pros: 5.1 sound
BluRay player included
Sound quality is very good
Sound balance setup works very nicely
Looks good with my LG TV

Cons: Exposed dome on center speaker - little fingers like pushing it. Exposed wires on the bottom of the wall mount speakers. Manual doesn't say if speaker performance is effected if the sound hole on the back is covered. HERE'S THE BIGGEST PROBLEM: When watching TV (sound through the optical cable) the sound is lost for a short time (about 2-3 seconds) while the receiver is setting the number of sound channels (2.1, 5.1 etc). I don't get this problem when I watch my HTPC on the TV (HTPC connected to the TV) The nearest I can figure is that the TV station periodically broadcasts the number of sound channels and the receiver then resets the number of channels. This makes watching TV very annoying. My Sony home theater receiver does not have this problem. Taking away 4 eggs for this problem. If Sony can prevent this sound problem, LG should be able to as well! How about fixing it with a firmware update??? Ah yes - updating the firmware takes way too long (even with 6 Mbps service)

Other Thoughts: I purchased this system to use on an LG LED/LCD TV. Figured that the home theater remote would control all the features of the TV. I thought that since the components were all by the same manufacturer that everything would work flawlessly. I was wrong.

I wish that I would have passed on this unit - especially now that I see a Samsung system on sale for about the same price that I payed for this unit (also on sale). I guess there are no guarantees that the Samsung unit won't have the same sound issue but I now know LG does...

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal on a Great Theater in a box.

Pros: Features, Features, Features.. Netflix, 3D ready, Blu-ray, and decent power in the speakers for my small room. Great entry level theater system for sub $400 bucks. Perfect for the man cave or smaller room set up.

Cons: The instructions are quite a bit lacking. The quick guide is ok for setting this up with just a tv, but if you have game consoles, a cable box, or any other audio equipment to connect to it, your pretty much on your own. My only other gripe is with the "sound effects". Yes there are many presets, but most of them sound the same or severely limit the surround. The only ones that work well are Game (for gaming of course) and Natural Plus for movies. The rest are too tinny, or too much reverb.

Other Thoughts: The speaker cables could be higher guaged, but thats not an egg offense.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat After EQ setup

Pros: Got these on sale and don't regret it one bit. For the price, this combo HT/Blu Ray player is unbeatable.

The included ipod dock works like a charm, and the proprietary navigation software doesn't bother me (it's not the quickest, but it's intuitive!).

I can't say much for the much touted Internet capabilities - There's no USB dongle included, and I'm not ready to splash $60 on the required LG model. Not impressed with that.

Cons: The sound was AWFUL on initial setup. I couldn't figure out why all my movies / music sounded like it was on the bottom of the ocean. Tried flipping through the preset EQ's, but none were particularly impressive.
Sat down a few weeks ago and EQed it myself with my wife's ears to use as backup critics.
It now sounds 100% better, in fact I think they are actually on par with my previous systems that have since passed away (Sony, Pioneer. Both much much more expensive).

I can't say that this is a "huge" con, because it is fixable. But be warned, if you expect an out-of-the-box perfect sound, look elsewhere (I'm looking at you, Klipsch).

Other Thoughts: Bottom line: Buy it, take some time to set it up, and enjoy your bombastic sound at a bargain price.
