4 out of 5 eggsVery nice for the price

This review is from: Polk Audio RTI A3-Black High Performance Bookshelf Loudspeaker Pair

Pros: First, as a level-set... I consider myself a novice audiophile. I've put these speakers through quite a bit of testing and have been quite pleased with the package overall. I read reviews that the sound gets a little "nasal" at high volumes. I detect this ever so slightly, but certainly not enough to take any shine away.

The RTi A3s sound AMAZING. So many layers of music are revealed when pushing a quality source through. Zac Brown Band is on right now and FULL is the best word I can use to describe what I'm hearing.

I have them coupled with an Outlaw LFM-1 Plus subwoofer and the sound is perfect for what I need. Can't imagine a better sound in the room I'm using (20' x 20' with 15' ceiling).

Cons: None that I'm bothered enough by to write them here.

Other Thoughts: I bought these when the price dropped to $249.99 with free shipping. I don't think there's a better speaker out there for $250.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Bookshelf

This review is from: Polk Audio RTI A3-Black High Performance Bookshelf Loudspeaker Pair

Pros: Overall the speakers produce very impressive sound for this class and the wood veneer is a welcome feature when most other speakers in this call use plastic.

The midrange is exceptionally clear and clean for vocals and the highs are detailed as well. Bass is quite good, but a 6" driver can only do so much. I find it plenty sufficient for TV/home theater fronts, but a sub is advisable if you are the type that wants to feel the bass.

Cons: The speakers are deeper than most in this class so check the dimensions of your intended space. The sides are curved so horizontal use is difficult, although that orientation is not often needed.

Other Thoughts: This is my second pair; I like them so much. :) I wish Newegg sold the cherry version, but the sale price is impossible to beat.

5 out of 5 eggsthe beginnings of an audiophilliac start here

This review is from: Polk Audio RTI A3-Black High Performance Bookshelf Loudspeaker Pair

Pros: I purchased a set of these speakers after spending many hours in a box box chain sampling everything they had in my price range which was <$500 USD pre tax. Where the TSI 200 wasn't crisp the RTi A series (both A1 and A3) where brutally detailed in comparison. The A3 has a nicer low end and honestly does not require a subwoofer. They are a wonderful sounding speaker. At very low levels of out put to so loud you have to leave the room for fear of damaging your hearing the RTi A3 stays pretty darned consistent in output level of the frequencies its given. You will run out of amplifier well before you run out of clean and consistent output from this speaker. The highs are the best part of this speaker, the midrange is brilliant unless you've heard some pretty solid gear (being in the $600 price range per pair, too many notables to list). Bass is the best and most accurate in the business at this price

Cons: For best imaging in my setup it seems necessary to place these speakers at or slightly below listening levels for the best imaging. IN this sense they have a kind of narrow window for their sweet spot.

Other Thoughts: Powered by a Yamaha C-2x preamp, Yamaha M-70 power amp. Amp has to hit just under 200 watts out consistent output to the speakers before distortion in certain harmonics are possible. I recalibrated the output meters for 6 ohm output. I am pretty confident it is simply the limit of the woofer cone material and not the voicecoil assembly. Astonishing! Solid buy and sure to not disappoint, especially at this price. Be prepared. It will sound significantly different from what you are used to if this is your first foray into quality speakers. These speakers easily and deftly reveal the recording quality of your music. From here on out, its gets very pricey to seriously and completely outdo this speaker.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Bookshelf Speakers

This review is from: Polk Audio RTI A3-Black High Performance Bookshelf Loudspeaker Pair

Pros: Great bookshelf speakers, I upgraded from monitor 40's and couldn't be happier. Wood finish is also very nice, big improvement in aesthetics over the Monitor line as well.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible speaker for music

This review is from: Polk Audio RTI A3-Black High Performance Bookshelf Loudspeaker Pair

Pros: These are great for home theater so don't get me wrong.

Cons: Everyone raved about the bass for music and such but I highly disagree. The bass sounds somewhat distant and muddy. I was looking for An open sound stage which these do have but I wanted it to cleanly hit 50hz these sound like muddy and distant 70hz on the bass end. the entire sound stage seems a bit distant and I wanted the singers and vocals to sound like they are right on top of the cone of the speaker. These are the issues I found with these speakers. No amount of breaking them in is going to change that. These are geared for theater and the music side suffers for it.

Other Thoughts: You'll find tons of reviews raving about these speakers and has a theater speaker they do sound great but I'm looking for a music speaker not a theater speaker.
