5 out of 5 eggsSmall footprint, Big sound

This review is from: Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 High Performance Powered Subwoofer Single

Pros: Great sound and solid bass. There are certain benefits that come with a small driver (just as there are unavoidable downsides). This excels at music reproduction as the smaller driver is quick and tight.

Cons: This will not compare to a 12 or 15" sub for movies. The deepest impact moments in a film are too taxing for this little guy to deliver exceptional low end. That said, if you buy this, you know that there are some small concessions ... and this is a pretty small one.

Other Thoughts: Currently down for repair - still sticking to a 5 star since I assume that Definitive will be supportive through the repair process.

5 out of 5 eggsWow is an understatement.

This review is from: Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 High Performance Powered Subwoofer Single

Pros: Phenomenal output from such a small footprint. I have tested this model, and the SuperCube 6000 extensively in store, and when I say wow, I mean wow. Let it be known, I have absolutely zero connection to Definitive Technology, I am just an old home/car audio audiophile just like you.
Sound wise, they rate very very good to me. For typical music such as rock, pop, country, alternative, metal, they produce a fairly accurate sound stage. When you get into music such as (c)rap, they can get a bit muddy, but not too bad, I think it's more the music than the sub.
Blues, rock, typical stuff people listen to these days, these things sound absolutely phenomenal. Along with Blues, classical music sounds as good as it gets. Especially when pairing this sub up with some of the DT Super towers like the BP-8020ST. The sound setup with their super towers and these subs, is some of the best I have ever, ever heard in my 40yrs+. I would have absolutely no problem at all recommending these to anyone.

Cons: Not a chance. All though I recommend not having any neighbors close by, or you will absolutely get noise complaints lol.

Other Thoughts: Having tested these sub's with all types of music from rap, to dance, to country, to hard rock/heavy metal, and with various movie favorites, being paired with the DT BP-8020ST towers, you will be left in awe. The base produced from this small, less than 12" footprint, is incredible. At moderate volumes, we were shaking speakers off the wall in the test room next door, they create that much sound. And when sitting in the same room, it was nearly impossible to tell where the sub was sitting. It took me a while the first time to figure out what was producing the earth shaking sound.
As far as sound goes, depending on what you are listening to, these subs on a scale of 1 - 10 for accuracy, I'd give them a 7 or 8. While they produce a ton of base, at very high volume levels, they aren't the tightest subs I have ever heard, but they are still very, very respectable, and I would have absolutely NO problem recommending them to anyone. For the money, you absolutely cannot beat the SuperCubes
