The Infinity Primus Series – Where Infinity sound begins.

Prepare to raise your expectations. Experience home entertainment at a new level of clarity and realism. With its MMD transducer technology and seamless component architecture working in unison to eliminate unwanted resonance modes, the Primus P153BK doesn’t spray – it immerses, rolling over the listener with warm, rich sound the way live music does. Pair it with any one of Infinity’s powerful MMD-equipped floorstanding loudspeakers, subwoofers, and center-channel speakers, and the Infinity Primus P153BK will fill any room with dramatic and well-defined sound. This is where Infinity sound begins, and it’s well within your reach.

  • newegg Incredible sound, incredible price The Infinity Primus P153BK delivers excellent midrange reproduction, providing inner musical detail and ambience from any type of music and any volume level. Combined with its superb linear frequency response, the Primus P153BK sparkles in the high frequencies to reproduce acoustic instruments and vocal tracks with robust midrange power to wash you in sound. The Primus P153BK’s transient response is equally impressive – agile and sharp – perfectly reproducing sophisticated percussion and piano modalities. With the Primus P153BK’s Metal Matrix Diaphragm technology and low resonance enclosures, you will hear music just the way it was recorded, without the speaker changing or altering the sound – precisely as it should be.
  • newegg Primus, where home theater begins With its excellent high-frequency quality, the P153BK is the perfect home theater companion. Dialogue and foley tracks are articulated exceptionally well and seem to hang in the air – even amidst the most cacophonic battle or chase scene (or Hans Zimmer score). The Infinity Primus P153BK brings long-term, plug-and-play, trouble-free enjoyment to your home theater, unheard of at this price point – the perfect companion to Primus floorstanding speakers and subwoofers.
  • newegg Exclusive MM transducer technology Derived from the exclusive CMMD technology, the Metal Matrix Diaphragm (MMD) approach continues the Infinity tradition of using advanced materials to improve sonic accuracy. These diaphragms are much stiffer than standard metal ones – by anodizing both sides of an aluminum core, so this speaker significantly improves cone performance and outperforms cones made of paper, polypropylene or Kevlar material. By virtue of its extreme rigidity and resistance to resonance, the MMD material is far more than just another diaphragm substance. It is an ideal diaphragm material for the ultimate listening experience. Sound propagates at a higher velocity in metals than in materials such as polymers and papers. Sound will travel through MMD material nearly twice as fast as it will through any other cone material – thus, moving unwanted resonances outside the audible range.
  • newegg Superior Infinity engineering The Infinity Primus P153BK’s speaker drivers, baffles, cabinets and waveguides are designed to work seamlessly together as an integrated system, fitting together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. It begins with Infinity’s ultra-precise transducers – the beating heart of the Primus P153BK. MMD technology doesn’t change, color or distort audio signal sound the way diaphragms made of other materials do. This combines with the Primus speaker’s low resonance enclosures to compound the precision qualities of the transducer, further eliminating mechanical distortion.
  • newegg Infinity – Legendary reputation, uncompromising craftsmanship and sound With the Infinity Primus P153BK, you not only experience the cutting edge in high-performance transducer technology and sound reproduction, you experience the cutting edge from the makers of Infinity products – some of the world’s most innovative, high-quality audio equipment. The road to the Infinity Primus series is a road lined with dozens of audio milestones: The Infinity Servo Statik 1a – the world’s first powered subwoofer. The EMIT (Electromagnetic Induction Tweeter) device. The revolutionary IRS speaker – the world’s first “reference” loudspeaker. The Prelude MTS speaker – the world’s first powered tower speaker.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Darn Good

Pros: Great sound. Fairly large size for a bookshelf (almost 11 inches deep), which means more bass. Very clear highs and mids. Bass sounds good down to about 100 Hz

Cons: They don't sound as good as Klipsch reference, but then again, what does?

Other Thoughts: I picked them up on sale for forty bucks each. At full price there are a ton of good speakers that they compete with (Klipsch, Polk, etc.), so it's pretty much a personal choice based on what you think sounds best.
I got them to be fronts for the surround system in the master bedroom because they were the best I could find for the price.
I set the crossover at 100 Hz. They don't really accurately reproduce bass guitars and bass drums etc., so I leave that to the sub. Mids and highs are crystal clear.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Bookshelf Speaker

Pros: Price, Sound, Size

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Hard to imagine a better sounding speaker at this price. At barely >$100 for the pair it is amazing and the sound for a little speaker is awesome. I also have an older model of this speaker - 1 pair in my son's bedroom and 1 pair in my home office driven by good separates.

5 out of 5 eggsReplacing a much larger set of speakers

Pros: Nice little speaker! More than enough speaker for most living rooms, crystal clear, crisp clear compliant, even at low volume full sound. The bass clarity is remarkable and sounds like the much larger Sony’s they are replacing, classic, rock and jazz just fine, boom boom Rap get a sub if that is your thing. Home theater Oh yea! I wish I had another set.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I got these for the patio, but after listening to them I am putting the bigger speakers I have out on the patio. These are real gems. Set the Bass and treble to flat and let em play on low for at least 3 hours before cranking them, and oh by way they are punchy to say the least. They fill the room with full sound very sweet, get em and I promise you will be thrilled!

5 out of 5 eggsIMO a great deal...

Pros: -Output Vs. Size
-Seem solid and well constructed
-Adequate power handling
-Wall mountable. Front firing bass reflex porting so you can still hang them with the built in mounts.
-Aesthetically pleasing (atleast to me)

Cons: The following things aren't truly "cons per se, but minor situational issues to me:

-A tad deeper than I would like, but by no means unreasonable.
-No hardware (screws/bolts) in the box for the factory wall mounts.

Other Thoughts: I am by no means an eccentric audiophile but also have had enough experience to say that I'm comfortable putting a tag on them as "a great deal" considering what you pay for them.

These little guys are replacing a slightly larger set of reasonable Yamaha speakers temporarily until I have time to rear wall mount them. The Yamahas have 8" drivers whereas these only have 5 1/4" ones yet the bass output is pretty dang comparable. Obviously bass isn't the only part of a good listening experience but rest assured that the mids/uppers have very good reproduction value. This is also not taking into account of any real break-in time so I suspect that within a week or so (i figure 10-20 hours of use) they will probably sound even better.

I personally could never tolerate these (or pretty much ANY speakers) without a subwoofer to accompany them but I do know several people that would be beyond content with them as mains on a small scale system.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Sound great, well packed, sensitive/easy to drive, great price on the xmas sale.

Cons: I don't like the look with the grills off, but I always leave them on anyway.

Other Thoughts: While I don't think I'm qualified to comment on their sound quality, I think they sound great. The only speakers I have to compare these to are the Polk Monitor 60's and the Insignia NS-B2111's, though. Paired with a sub and crossed over at 80hz the Primus sounds amazing. If they go on sale again I'll probably buy another pair.
