Internet "radio". We've all heard the term and smiled at the joke, right? Well, Aluratek has decided to put the radio back into Internet radio.

Sure, it's an FM receiver for conventional broadcasts in your area, but it's also a WiFi unit, so you can roam about your house and still listen to those Internet stations. Nor do you even have to have a computer running to listen. But if you're not going to roam, you could also use an Ethernet cable to access the 'Net or you can use a USB cable to use a host computer's connection.

You don't even need a computer to set it up. You can also use a USB flash drive and play your favorite MP3, WAV or WMA files. The built-in alarm clock has two programmable settings. The next time one of your non-Internet friends laughs at Internet radio, pull this one out and show them!

  • newegg Worldwide Radio Reception With built-in vTuner and FM tuner, the Aluratek AIRMM01F offers direct access to thousands of Internet Radio stations around the global as well as all FM broadcasts from your local country.
  • newegg Wired and Wireless Connectivity The Aluratek AIRMM01F provides broadband Ethernet and wireless network connectivity for easy integration into your home network.
  • newegg USB Host Function The Aluratek AIRMM01F features a built-in USB2.0 host port for direct playback of media files on your MP3 player, USB flash drive or other USB storage devices.
  • newegg Built-in Dual Alarm Function Built-in alarm clock with 2 programmable alarms wakes you up to your favorite sound of internet radio, FM radio, digital music, or choice of several alarm tones
  • newegg Clear LCD Screen with Backlit The Aluratek AIRMM01F features a clear LCD screen with backlit for easy viewing of the channel frequency, transmission mode, data rate and more information.
  • newegg IR Remote Control With the included IR remote control, adjust the Aluratek AIRMM01F's functions from across the room without tangling wires.

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK

Pros: When it worked it was fine although tedious to program.

Cons: It acted up when I added more stations, displayed funny characters. I knew not to click one but eventually did. It bricked and there is no recovery I used it all of 2 weeks. Absolute garbage. The internet is full of the same complaints. It bricks easily for no reason.

Other Thoughts: Don't bother. It is a cludgy unit at best and forget programming more than a handful of stations which takes forever btw.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Purchase

Pros: Internet radio, a lot of great features, good sound

Cons: Even on the lowest setting, the LCD backlight is far too bright for a bedroom at night. In short, it's an alarm clock that prevents one from falling asleep first. Unfortunately, I didn't take the time to read enough reviews to learn this before purchasing, nor did I notice the Limited Replacement Only Return Policy. I now have a very expensive alarm clock sitting in a closet in the basement.

Other Thoughts: If the LCD backlight had an auto adjust feature as well as a much wider brightness range, this would be a five-egg rating.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy If You Want Both Channels

Pros: Not Much...certainly not customer service

Cons: One channel of audio...they claim that's how it's suppose to be

Other Thoughts: After a few days of listening to this unit, something didn't sound right. It was playing back one channel. I contacted Aluratek and they stated that even though there is only one speaker the audio is summed together for a mono mix. Being an audio engineer I did my own testing and found out that the radio was playing right channel only. I notified Aluratek and even sent them the test tones I used. The email I got from them admitted there was a problem...even on other units they had in their shop and they were letting the product manager know so a solution could be found. After not hearing anything for a week I called Aluratek. One of there 'engineers' (I use the term very loosely) said all the radios are suppose to be like that. HUH? Who does right channel only? Obviously I must have alerted them to a problem they didn't know they had and they blew me off. I am still waiting for a return call from the 'product manager' although I'm not holding my breath.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for variety

Pros: Bought for Internet radio, FM, and streaming from my UPnP server. Works great for my needs. Gives me virtually any audio that I want to listen to.

Sound quality is good for a smallish speaker. The remote is decent enough and laid out fairly well.

Good experience with Aluratek support after a firmware flash gave me some problems. Running v1.48 now with no issues.

Cons: Had some issues with wireless connecting with WPA2 so I updated the firmware. The update never completed properly and left the radio in a quirky state (date and time lost, garbled display). However, I reverted back to a previous version of the firmware and got my wireless to connect and has been fine since.

Startup time is somewhat slow. Doesn't have an option to resume whatever you were listening to previously, you have to select something before it starts playing anything.

Controls/interface could be designed better, but it's not terrible. LCD is bright for nighttime/bedroom use, but simple enough to turn off.

Other Thoughts: I don't use the AP feature or alarm and haven't explored the web site to set up stations.

3 out of 5 eggsRon

Pros: Works well although audio is not great, not bad, just not great. Small and compact in size. Being an insomniac I purchased it for use at night, using a pillow speaker, so would not disturb my wife. Love classical jazz and can find a lot of that on the Internet.

Cons: Said it was plug and play but not where I live. Had to add a wireless router to get it working. Between that and the radio it took me almost a week to get everything up and working. Wish the audio was a bit better but still sounds relatively good. What can you expect from small size?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat simple internet radio!

Pros: Overall a very simple setup. A lot of stations available and sound quality is pretty decent for what it is. Has the ability to plug into your home theater system. Will play mp3s off a USB drive. You can setup radio stations via the web or the radio itself

Cons: It will not play music from my USB hard drive that is plugged into my router. Media server option seems to only work with PC that is left on. Remote has short range and you have to pretty much be directly in front of the radio for it to work. Connecting to network is easy but radio is too fussy. Let me explain, I have my wireless network setup that each wireless device is assigned an IP address by its MAC. Furthermore, access to my wireless network is restricted by MAC address.... meaning that if a device's MAC address is not on my access list, its not going to connect even with the password. So I shut all that off and connected the radio to my network. Than I reconfigured my network back to way it was. Now the radio wouldn't connect anymore. I had to manually re-connect back to network(via radio) and than the radio connected again. I have never had to do that with any device before.

Other Thoughts: I've not had any issues with it losing the network. I listen to a lot of internet radio and its nice not to have my pc or phone on to do this. I have installed the firmware 1.50(beta3). Maybe cause of this I don't have the issues where people complain that when they turn off their radio....the next time they turn it on, it does play the last station they were on. I don't know.. works for me. Yea the menu could be better but I think people complain way too much these days. If something doesn't work before they hit a button than the device sucks and is too slow. Stop and smell the roses people....

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Works well, simpler interface than Logitech, doesn't have silly and complicated extra features. Great value for the price. Not very loud but sound is very clear.

Cons: No thumping base, but what do you expect? :)

Other Thoughts: I've set up other brands of internet radio for clients, and they always complain that their box forgets their wi-fi settings. My Aluratek hasn't done that once!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat product....awkward interface.

Pros: Love the ability to connect to wireless network and stream internet radio. Included remote is handy dandy. Clean lines and decent looking. Abiltiy to connect to home sterio is cool and USB connection for mp3's is flexible. Great product over all and reasonable price. Love NewEgg.

Cons: Interface is somewhat awkward. Would have been nice to have preset buttons on unit for favorite stations. 90 year old Grandmother only has to push remote button 5 times to get to her programed favorite radio station, but then all is well.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this for my wifes 90 year old grandmother who was unable to listen to her favorite jacksonville, fl station from her home in Ocala, fl. I checked and Jones college radio streamed its signal, so I picked up this unit for her. Tried it out myself first to set it up for her. She's loving it and uses it each day. I set it up in her kitchen and shes so pleased. It's the little things in life. :-)

5 out of 5 eggsRTJA

Pros: GREAT product!!! I, for one, am sick and tired of the ‘jump on the bandwagon’ craze for iPod docks. I don’t own an iPod and have serious doubts about its benefits. On the other hand I do own a number of flash drives and this product suits my bedtime listening needs perfectly. The internet radio is just icing on the cake.

I do not review products. In truth this is the first one, but I am so impressed that I feel that I should pass it along. If you want to go to sleep listening to your favorite music or your favorite author it’s possible to do with a simple flash drive

Cons: Cons – It doesn’t have an iPod port :o)

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a small bedside product that delivers - this is for you. I don't know about its 'long term' reliability but its 'short term' usability is impressive,,, and the price makes it that much more enticing.

5 out of 5 eggsBest as an Access Point

Pros: Excellent connectivity.
VTuner is easy enough to work with.
Lots of channels.
Outstanding as an Access Point.

Cons: Big learning curve.
Bright screen.
Mono speaker.

Other Thoughts: I got this about a year ago and it is still going strong. It connects to my sound system via RCA cable or headphone. Wireless worked fine (and still does), but I have now decided to take advantage of the Access Point feature. By connecting via ethernet and choosing AP mode, I now have the full house (3500 square ft) connected wirelessly. A good AP runs upwards of the price of this thing while having the bonus of a clock and internet radio. I have it set up in the living room connected to my 5.1 sound system. It feeds a strong wireless signal through the wall to the master BR where two Chumby's act as alarm clocks for me and my wife. Both Chumby's wireless signal is maxed out! Before I set this up as an AP I barely registered any signal on the Chumby's. VTuner allows me to set my favorite channels on their website and they automatically show up on the Aluratek radio. No need for presets on the radio. The sound through the 5.1 sound system is outstanding! Love this thing!
