1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Sounded great out of the box.

Cons: Complicated set up. Internet interface is square wheels on a Porsche. Up and puked no sound after 18 months. No customer service from Onkyo local. To much to ship for diagnostic. Video still works but no sound.

Other Thoughts: Be afraid if you are not a geek and want several years of reliable service.

4 out of 5 eggsREMOTE

Pros: This a very nice unit , it sounds pretty good , lots of inputs & outputs

Cons: I had to take 1 egg off because of the remote , it only works half or less than half of the time , sometime you can turn the unit on with the remote but the rest of the time you have to turn it on by pushing the power button

Other Thoughts: FIX THE REMOTE

3 out of 5 eggsOK but buy another brand..

Pros: Has WiFi, USB hub

Cons: Net Radio interface is like DOS.. so lame. For the $$$ you'd think Onkyo could improve this. Makes it hard to navigate, took forever to set up with their stock remote that has no keyboard.

Other Thoughts: This is my 3rd Onkyo receiver.. the other two stopped working (including the high end 7.1). I should have learned my lesson.. hope this one works more than a year.
Be warned, their support stinks.

5 out of 5 eggsAudio pro here. Best receiver I ever owned

Pros: - Great way to centralize all your entertainment
- More outputs than I need to allow expansion later
- Crisp sound
- Awesome frequency range
- Lots of ways to connect
- No proprietary audio or video connections - uses standard wires and cables

Cons: - Less than intuitive on screen setup menu, but still useful
- No built in "Custom equalizer settings" to set to your own liking

Other Thoughts: I consider myself to be an audio / visual professional and a gear snob. I DJ in night clubs and worked as an A/V Tech at 5-star resort hotels. That being said, I definitely got more than what I paid for on this unit.

I have an obnoxious 18-inch Pyle home theater subwoofer that drops the bass to 15Hz. This unit outputs the deep bass with no distortion. You want to communicate with whales or shake your house? Go ahead.

The surround sound works great. It doesn't matter what angle the sound is coming from.

The surprise features I am very pleased with are the WiFi connections to Spotify and my internet music accounts AND the ALL-ON connection. When I turn on my XBox One, the HDMI signal routed through the Onkyo receiver turns on the surround sound AND my TV at the same time.

Are there bigger and more expensive receivers available? Yes. But with all the inputs and outputs this has, the Onkyo TX-NR535 has more than what I need to run my man cave at a fraction of the cost.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver for the money

Pros: Great Sound, Lots of HDMI inputs

Cons: For the money, I cant find much to complain about.

Other Thoughts: To the reviewer that says: No Digital Analog Converter?
This receiver is equipped with a Burr Brown DAC.
Burr Brown makes some of the best DAC's on the market.
In order to get the full effect from this receiver you must output "Bitstream" from your Blu Ray player or other devices.
If you output PCM that means that the player itself will decode the audio track. Not the receiver.
Please note: when you buy a Blu Ray Player make sure it has the capability to output audio Bitstream. Most don't give you that option.

Other Thoughts:
To my knowledge
No receiver can convert HDMI to component.
That's just the way it is.

3 out of 5 eggsTX-NR535

Pros: Good price, good sound quality, lots of HDMI inputs.
Included Composite & Component inputs. 4K pass thru. HDMI video/audio can pass thru receiver when it's turned off.

Cons: Not most straight forward setup, Zone 2 only outputs analog inputs (doesn't output from any HDMI in). No digital-analog conversion. Composite inputs can only be output to composite outputs. Same with Component ins/outs.

Other Thoughts: I ranked myself as average tech knowledge as this is my first receiver I have purchased. I was unaware that this receiver could not input from my Wii (composite) or VCR (component) and output thru the HDMI cable to my TV. I wanted a single point to change between my inputs but now I still would need to change my TV source to HDMI, composite or component in. This is partially my fault as I am still learning what receivers can & can't do.
Also a little disappointed that I cannot output any HDMI input source to zone 2.
