5 out of 5 eggsOnly buy if you live in dry/desert climate

Pros: Better than air conditioner in dry, hot climates because doesn't dry your nose, eyes etc.
Has a remote for us lazy people.
Has oscillating louvers inside that move the air around, but can be turned off if you just need it to blow in certain direction.
New Egg had excellent pricing.
One filling with water and it lasts about 8-10 hours so it will last all night if you use it to cool a bedroom.
And it is very easy to move from room to room.

Cons: Having to fill with water isn't my favorite thing, but it does last quite a while on one filling.
Do need to replace wick inside after a couple of years depending on how much you use it.
Wish the horizontal louvers on outside were motorized like the internal vertical ones, but the can be moved by hand.

Other Thoughts: This is the 2nd one we've owned and it's great! We live in Boise, ID and summers are usually hot and dry since we're upper desert here. The first one lasted about 6-7 years and we only replaced wick once. We usually just use in summer as a backup source of cooling instead of running the house swamp cooler at night. Also use it to direct the cool air from our larger cooler into kitchen or corners that swamp cooler doesn't quite reach.

Keep in mind when you use an EVAPORATIVE air cooler that you need to open windows slightly to direct the air into that room. With this small portable version, you should crack open a window(s) in which you are running it or it will build up humidity. Best thing to do is to place it so that it blows across whatever or whomever you are trying to cool and out a door or window. Just read the instructions that comes with it, they mention this. And ice does really cool things even more! It's a shame the previous reviewers didn't seem to read their manuals wel

2 out of 5 eggsJust a fan/humidifier

Pros: It works as a fan only.

Cons: Drains too much power just for it being a fan humidifier. Does not cool a small room. Only makes things very humid and warm on hot days. Its a shoddy unit. Buy a real AC during the winter to anticipate the hot summers.

Other Thoughts: Im sorry I bought this thing. Its taking up space now.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for cooling my workstation

Pros: I was looking for a cheap and efficient alternative to having to buy an air conditioner for my small room, which consists of various computer equipment (Desktop, laptops, duplicators, etc.) This air cooler basically keeps my tiny workstation breezy and cool, and can run all day without making the area too cold. Great if you already live in a fairly breezy area or near the coast - not so sure how it would work in really hot places though. Also, you don't always have to put in ice - cold water from your sink or bath is sufficient to generate the cool air. As mentioned in a number of other reviews, it doesn't cool your room like an air conditioner, but it's definitely MUCH better than any regular old electric fan.

Cons: Positioning this thing to get the most out of it was a chore. You definitely need to keep it close by if you're going to feel the cool air. I've managed to set it up so that it can reach the back of my workstation, without having it blowing against my back constantly, which became a nuisance.

Other Thoughts: It's definitely great for a small room or office. Moisturizes the air in places where computers/electronic equipment can really make the air feel dusty and dry. The low power usage enables you to run it 24/7 without any worries, and maintenance has been fairly easy so far (I just keep refilling the water - no bad odors coming from it as of yet).

1 out of 5 eggsDoesnt cool. Just makes it worst...

Pros: Its ok for fan use or if you want to humidify a dry room during the winter. lol.. seriously.

Cons: Ionizer is a fluke. It also makes the room sticky and doesnt even cool a thing. Im in a very small room and it did nothing but make things more uncomfortable. Its not an air cooler. Its an air humidifier. The amount of chores you have to go through just to get it to work is a pain. Save your money and buy a real AC unit.

Other Thoughts: This thing will work nicely during cold seasons. But then... why the heck would anyone want to cool a cold room?

3 out of 5 eggsNothing to write home about

Pros: Does what it says it will do. It cools the air slightly better than an air conditioner. Functions of unit work as manufacturer claims.

Cons: Really not worth the effort. You have to put tons of ice in it for it to cool the air, and refill often with water and ice. You have to clean it all the time so it doesn't smell. And 12 degrees cooler? Ha! Try maybe 3 to 5.

Other Thoughts: It gets 3 stars because in reality, the product never claims to be an air conditioner--it does what it says it will do. However, it just really doesn't seem worth the effort. It's way to much work for a mediocre result. I would suggest keeping your money and saving up for a portable air conditioner.

2 out of 5 eggsThis thing blows

Pros: It's nice as a fan.

Cons: It's a high priced fan.

Other Thoughts: 12 degrees cooler? Maybe if you strap a block of dry ice to it and use it in a closet. And clean it once a week? It started smelling after about 4 days of use. Just by a fan and save some greenbacks and some hassle. Or just save up for a portable A/C if you can't use a window unit like me.

4 out of 5 eggsA simple fix made the difference!

Pros: Cools the air nicely. Compact size is not obtrusive.

Cons: Had to open it up to make a quick fix.

Other Thoughts: At first, the water pump wasn't working (cooling). I opened the back and noticed a little plastic box floating around. It attaches to the water level meter. After putting the "floaty box" back into the lever meter, the water pump then worked as it's supposed to.

1 out of 5 eggsoverpriced poor fan

Pros: none

Cons: Just got it and it wouldn't work new out of the box after following the directions. The fan works but the cool air button just keeps beeping and blinking. The air isn't as cool as the air coming from my old fan. Even on high not worth it as a fan.
