5 out of 5 eggs3 years later, still running strong..

Pros: [-] Inexpensive (when I bought it, currently OOS but)
[-] Well made considering the price
[-] Makes a nice espresso (haven't bothered with Cappuccino - I'm a black coffee man)
[-] The water temperature, I'm convinced, is "boiling", that is to say I'm not concerned of bacteria.
[-] Along those lines of water bacteria growth, this doesn't have a tank of water that sits around to collect it. You put in only what you will use for a shot or double shot. So another pro, as many people don't realize what can fester and grow in a water tank that sits there for "convenience" like the K company has (which I refuse to allow water to sit in the tank).

Cons: None that I've experienced. All but replaced with a Kuerig Rivo system (out of convenience only, though due to poor advertising of it, I may be falling back to this great espresso maker once the Rivo cups are no longer for sale). So, I suppose you could somewhat consider "clean up" a slight chore, but really.. not, all you do is dump the "wasted" grind, run some hot water through it, done.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had reviewed this sooner, but looking back at past purchases just now, I saw I forgot to leave one. Pointless perhaps now that it is OOS, though, should it make a come back -- I would recommend it for anyone that doesn't feel the need nor have the liquid assets to purchase a $50k Italian unit.

1 out of 5 eggsPremature failure

Pros: Was great for the price (while it worked)

Cons: Premature failure
frother is useless

Other Thoughts: Used this espresso maker on a daily basis for the past year and a half - but this morning it failed to heat the water. As of yesterday I would have given it a very high rating (4-5), but 1 1/2 years of life is just ridiculous. Naturally it has a 1 year warranty...

5 out of 5 eggsBudget Espresso Maker

Pros: People who want a lot of extras from a budget machine seem crazy. This is bottom of the line type product so it only does the most basic functions and has no added features. Similarly if you want all the features of a top of the line Lexus but only pay for a economy line Toyota you should only expect to get what you pay for . This machine works and is a lot cheaper then going to a coffee shop.

Affordable - Cost me only $23 on sale

Simple - You just put grounds into the filter basket (tells you how much coffee grounds to add - 2 cup/ 4 cup) and put in water with the glass carafe (tells you how much water to add)

The frother (milk steamer) is fairly simple to use also, I just wait till all the espresso drips out then put the cup with some milk and begin steaming (also to depressurize the machine). If you do not depressurize the machine and go to untwist the coffee ground basket it will shoot grounds everywhere including inside the slot to put the basket (hassle to clean - lesson learned).

Cons: The coffee filter basket unit is hard to put on the machine and the instructions are pretty bad, it just says to insert the unit pushing up, but you have to install it on the left side and twist the unit till it is almost centered. The handle for the coffee grounds basket does not center up with the machine when you put it in, slightly off center to the left so don't over tighten the basket.

If this machine is used incorrectly it can cause a mess and make you angry.

Other Thoughts: At first I was impressed until I made a huge mess by not depressurizing the machine. It is only a basic unit so it doesn't have as much functionality as other models that cost 4x as much. Wait till it goes on sale and the unit does not take as much space since it doesn't have that many other features.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing budget Espresso machine

Pros: This machine is simply amazing for the price. Buy it!

I actually look forward to waking up to use this beast to jumpstart my day.

Cons: I bought 1 instead of 3.

Shipping label slapped on the OEM box, not a newegg box. Minor gripe, was shipped with zero flaws/damages so I don't mind.

Other Thoughts: I was in the market for a budget espresso/capppucino maker and bought this one on sale. I am honestly very impressed. I am not a coffee snob, but had always drank normal drip coffee and wanted to get an espresso maker for a long time. This was the right price, and I couldn't be happier.

It is a compact little unit, so I do understand the other reviews not liking how short the froth spout is, but I have no problems using it and thats the cost of it being so compact and inexpensive at the same time.

My girlfriend liked it so much I wanted to buy 2 more, one for her and one to gift (since it was so cheap), but sadly it was back to $50 as the sale had ended.

If you're not picky and on a budget, this is your machine! I'm not sure I'd pay the $50 for it if on a tight budget, but I'm glad I bought it.

2 out of 5 eggsDeLonghi EC5

Pros: price

Cons: not user friendly, cant stop brewing process

Other Thoughts: Save yourself some frustration and get a pump-driven machine not a steam-driven as this is. The problem is that it continues to brew until all the water is used up. You have to froth the milk as it brews you can't brew a cup and froth later. By later I mean you can't turn your back to answer the door or phone or say hello to someone.... you get my drift. It takes a few tries to get the hang of it. It's cheap and it works but it's not very user friendly. The parts are flimsy but you get what you pay for so I won't complain about that. I don't like the fact that you cant stop the brewing process unless it runs out of water.

1 out of 5 eggssteam and drip all at once -- garbage

Pros: none.

Cons: this piece of garbage should not be even given for free.

you cannot control the steam. you cannot pressurize without having the coffee dripping. it takes x5 times more coffee for a single espresso than any other machine.
the steam and the coffee drip all go at once in the same time.. it is like a device that is leaking from everywhere.

Other Thoughts: plastic garbage that causes pollution to the planet... I had to throw it in recycle bin.

I wonder all these positive reviews! Did anyone tried a real espresso machine before?

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: accesories

Cons: Cheap plastic body was broken upon opening!

Other Thoughts: Terrible design and cheap plastic body. I thought DeLonghi was a good brand until now. Now I either ship it back and pay for shipping or just keep it. I am so disappointed since I didn't get what I paid for. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!

5 out of 5 eggsTastes good to me

Pros: Not too large, easy to store. I just made the best espresso I have had with fresh ground S-bucks Italian. I sent clean water through 4 times before the coffee. I don't froth milk much, so I'll deal with the noted inconveniences when I decide to use this feature. I'm really going to be buzzed today because I can't stop drinking the whole 4 cups. I'd better cut back on the bean as another reviewer suggested. I have used Aero press for years, and it makes good coffee, but this unit makes *really* good espresso by my standards.

Cons: Came in the manufacturers box only, not even taped shut, but in perfect condition.

Other Thoughts: For occasional espresso use and the sale price, I don't see how this can be beat if you aren't fussy about espresso/cappuccino rituals and technology. My first cup is one of the best coffees I have ever had, and I have been grinding and brewing for decades. Next frontier: a bean roaster and a MoccaMaster. (or skip the machines and just start buying Stumptown.)
