5 out of 5 eggsGood desk fan

Pros: 3 speeds, it can oscillate, top section can be twisted to widen the fan coverage, quiet on low speed, moves a good amount of air, dimly back-lit control buttons, small footprint at 5 & 3/4" diameter, lasted 8 years running quietly.

Cons: At the sale price none.

Other Thoughts: I had 1 of these for 10 years. For 8 years it worked quietly, but for the last 2 years it's been making a crick-crack noise when it would stop at the end of travel to reverse it's oscillation. I didn't think they made them anymore so I just lived with the noise. Found them on sale at the Egg so I bought 2 black ones. The quiet cool breezes are back. Oh Yeah. Yes I would recommend these to all of my friend. ;)

3 out of 5 eggsSqueaks and creaks, but works

Pros: Moves a decent amount of air. Split direction function is kind of cool. Lighted controls are useful, and aren't so bright that they would be a problem when sleeping.

Cons: Maybe I just got a bad unit, but mine makes a ton of noise. Lots of random squeaks, creaks, and scratching/grinding noises. Must have some really terrible bearings in there somewhere. It's extremely annoying when trying to sleep, and frustrating because I bought this to replace another unit, precisely because that one was making annoying noises. Ack.

While the split direction function is cool, the oscillation covers such a small angle that you pretty much have to use the split in order to get equivalent coverage to a normal fan. To get it to cover the same area with its oscillation as the fan it replaced, I MUST have the 2 vents split as wide as they will go. If I have them together it covers a pitifully small area, barely enough to go from one side of my chair to the other when I'm sitting 5 feet away. The point is, it's less cool if you have to have it set that way all the time. I suppose if you have it stationary and just want it to hit 2 targets it makes some sense.

Other Thoughts: If it doesn't have to be super quiet, it's a good unit for a good price.

2 out of 5 eggsThere are better options

Pros: Tower configuration takes up very little desk space

Cons: Way too noisy for a desktop fan, even on low. Really thought the squirrel cage fans would have better output then they do. Hard rubber feet transmit vibration right into the desk and the whole unit slides around when I go to push one of the control buttons.

Other Thoughts: Still haven't found anything that has the output and silence of the "Vornado" style fan I have at home.

4 out of 5 eggsNice desk fan

Pros: Moves a lot of air. In general a great little desk fan. Great fan for the price.

Cons: High and medium speeds can be a little loud.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if the two parts could oscillate independently.
