5 out of 5 eggsNOM NOM NOM

Pros: Quick Cook Time, Easy Clean Up, Great Smell and lots of fun.... oh and cheap. If you figure the cost of microwave bags (The Good Kind At Least) and what your able to get from doing it yourself.... no contest.

Cons: The non stick does scratch some but not enough to make it misbehave. The bowl gets a kind of greasy film that requires you to deep clean in every once in a great while.

Other Thoughts: My Grandparents had one my whole life. They purchased one for my Father and he is still using it so that one is confirmed to be going over 20 years. His is that old nasty yellow colored lid one they don't make anymore.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply the best way to make Popcorn

Pros: This thing makes much better popcorn than any other method I've tried. There's none of the dry, crunchy taste from air poppers or stove top method. If you let the oil and surface heat up a bit you can pop it as fast as a microwave. Easy to clean and makes a lot of popcorn.

Cons: Kind of expensive once you factor in shipping costs. Plastic Bowl and lid could easily be damaged so don't drop either during preparation or washing. Requires a substantial amount of cooking oil or the kernels will burn instead of pop, that could mean a lot of extra calories and fat so experimenting is a must. Stirring rod is flimsy and can scratch against surface but it's easy to bend if needed.

Other Thoughts: Fun to watch. Usually the popcorn sort of explodes all at once and it's done within seconds. No waiting for the rest of the kernels to pop. Very few wasted kernels. Using Extra Virgin Olive Oil gives it a nice taste.

5 out of 5 eggsClassic

Pros: Makes great popcorn. Simple and reliable. The kids enjoy the experience and it costs way less than microwave popcorn. Less greasy too.

This will pop all but maybe 5 kernels of corn, which is pretty amazing. And it makes the equivalent of about 3 bags of microwave popcorn.

I use it for movie night with the guys too, and one batch is usually enough for 5-6 of us (shout out to Phil and crew).

Cons: After about 5 yrs, at 2-3 uses per week, my bowl has minor cracks, and the stirring rod retention knob is mostly stripped out... but it's still working.

Other Thoughts: I grew up using one of these... 25 yrs ago. Bought one for my kids about 5 yrs back and it's been great. My kids didn't know you could pop popcorn without a microwave, heh. I dump a cup of kernels and 3 tablespoons of margarine right on the heating surface, and it's ready in about 5 mins. Don't bother with oils or the butter reservoir at the top of the bowl.

I've tried every brand of popcorn, and classic Orville Redenbacher just can't be beat.
