The full size version supports the smart cover. This one does not. If you want to protect the metal back of your mini, but not the glass front, then this case is for you. Other Thoughts: We bought this because we are highly satisfied with Kensington's full size version of this cover (Kensington K39354US Protective Back Cover (Translucent) for New iPad and iPad 2). The full size version supports the smart cover. This one does not. If you want to protect the metal back of your mini, but not the glass front, then this case is for you.
