3 out of 5 eggsFirst telescope. Got a good deal but I think I know why...

Pros: It was a great value compared to its original listing price, which is why I jumped on it. It was pretty inexpensive for a 450x zoom telescope.

Cons: The documentation was pretty meager, especially for first time telescope users. While it has a great zoom, the tripod is not very stable. You are either locked tight where it cannot move at all or it moves all over the place when you try to adjust the focus. Also, when using the full zoom capabilities, objects appear very distorted - not just fuzzy, but funky. A star will appear very much like a white paintball shot against a black wall which sort of defeats the purpose of having a telescope with a 450x zoom. At lower zooms, it works better though.

Other Thoughts: While advertised as a 450x zoom telescope, it works best as (and is priced similar to) a 150x to 300x telescope. If it were not for the fact that I paid a fraction of the original list price for it, I would have returned it.

Pros: it's cheap

Cons: Ok for daytime observing, terrible for astronomy. the two eyepieces provide magnifications of 30x and 150x, and 90x and 450x when used with the barlow lens. The eyepieces use designs that fell out of favor with amature astronomers decades ago. They provide tiny fields of view with poor color sharpness. further, there aren't any quality eyepiece upgrade options available for this size (the eyepieces are. 956" in diameter instead of the typical 1.25 or 2" designs). The barlow lens is laughable as this scope will not provide useable views at 450x. Even my 8" newtonian scope can't do this.

Other Thoughts: If it's astronomy you're interested, save your money for a scope that uses 1.25" eyepieces and has an objective lens of at least 60mm. In this price range, binoculars are a better option.
