4 out of 5 eggsWorks, IF you have the right equipment

Pros: If it works with your equipment, the performance is unbeatable. The sound and picture are bright, clear, and transparent.

Cons: Not all hardware combinations work as expected, and no where is it documented what works and what doesn't!

Other Thoughts: So 100' HDMI cables were a bad idea for my customer's application (Asus M5A88-M to a Samsumg 32" LED and Asrock E350M1 to an identical Samsung display). I should have known and gone straight to the extender solution, but live and learn and all that...

The extender's spec. only required cat5 and not cat6 so that is what I used, but it was running through a fairly hostile ceiling with lighting ballasts and alarm equipment and a zillion other sources of emi running around, so I went with STP instead of UTP and ordered premade 75' patch cables instead of tipping my own. I also connected the extenders to the sources and displays with the cheapest 6' HDMI cables known to man.

Before pulling cables through the ceiling and then discovering problems the hard way like I foolishly did with the 100' HDMI cables, I tried the system out on my workbench first. I used a Sony SMP with a fixed 1080i output through the extenders and one of the 75' cables to an Emerson HDTV that has never had a problem with a 1080i input before... and I got out of range errors. The Sony SMP didn't give me many options, so I switched to the Asrock E350M1 and an HP touchscreen monitor. After some experimenting, I got the monitor to report "no signal" with 1080i from the Asrock board, "out of range" with 1080p from the Asrock board (someone explain that one to me), and flawless behavior at 720p. If I took the 75' cable out and replaced it with a 6' cable everything worked like it should. That was REALLY infuriating because that meant that the extender just didn't work at 75', even though the listing says it is supposed to work at 150'!!!

I had already been humiliated by the 100' cables and my customer was growing tired of looking at the expensive 32" Samsung ornaments hanging on her office wall, so I simply declared that 720p was going to have to do and installed them.

Lo and behold, they work perfectly! She has bright, clear, beautiful 1080p on both monitors in her office now. My only theory is that it has something to do with variations in manufacturer implementations of the HDMI standard. Frankly, I don't care. My customer is happy and I won't be rolling the dice on these again.
