Pros: 1- Unit works well for weather related functions (if you are not using communications software). 2- Unit seems to work for ATRAG ballistic compensation (if you are not programming the unit with the 'gun library' software) Cons: 1- No indication that Kestral can be updated via flashing the firmware; if there is an ATRAG issue, you could be out of luck 2- The "Gun Library" software is non-existent at this time. So you are fine with a few loadouts when entered manually, but if you really want to get all of you loadouts into the device, or several of them, you can forget it. [For example, I make rounds in batches of 1000, and chrono the batch... I want those load differences accounted for by setting up the Kestrel and a second backup unit] 3- There are no indicated provisions for backing up your ATRAG settings from the Kestrel 4500NV with ATRAG (blue tooth or otherwise). So that means if you the unit goes bad, etc., you just lost all of the work you put into it. 4- The Kestrel online support forum requires an admin to approve EACH message, and they don't approve even slightly unpossitive information. 5- Support software list in the manuals is not available from either Horus or Kestrel. Other Thoughts: The fact that both Horus and Nellsen-Kellerman (Kestrel) have put a product on the market that they basicsally don't support does not lead to a high level of confidence. NK does not have production quality software for Windows 7 platforms available, and Horus has not published the "gun library" software referenced in the user manual. IF you purchase this product with Blue Tooth, if even the normal version that works with a serial port, you will NOT be able to use those features. I have email Horus numeros times, and they will not get back to me. Attempted to post questions and request updates on the NK support site (nicely) have not been answered, because the vendor WILL NOT APPROVE the messages; every message on the NK support site must be approved by the administrator.
