Maybe you'll hook your desktop up by cable, and carry your wireless laptop to your favorite sitting spot. Control and configuration are easy with browsers like Internet Explorer 6.0, Firefox 2.0, or Safari 3.0 (or newer). (It's best to do your configuration from a hard-wired connection, not the wireless.)

3 out of 5 eggsTake it but leave it after 2.5 years

Pros: User friendly for people that know basic networking.

Cons: I went to school...Bachelors in Comp Sci, A+, Net+, CCNA..not that you'll need that, but I can tell when something is broken.
And I've gone through a linksys router every 2.5 years.
They tell you they can't do anything after 2 years.
Forget the extra year warranty, unless you buy a 5 year plan.
Imagine having to buy new hardware every 2 years?

3 out of 5 eggsNot Worth > $50

Pros: Lasts long

Cons: Only getting roughly 1/3 of actual bandwidth (DL:120, UL: 50) through router. Low on memory.

Other Thoughts: I have V1. I have had DD-WRT Micro running strong for a long time. On OEM firmware the router wouldn't allow traffic over certain ports even with DMZ or Port Forwarding enabled without DD-WRT. Also, you can run into an issue that requires a full reset where you will have to do a 30-30-30 reset. If you have never done a 30-30-30 reset, you're not missing out.

3 out of 5 eggspossible fix

Pros: Sleek. It worked at the beginning.

Cons: Internal antennas.

2mb flash only allows for dd-wrt micro.

Other Thoughts: If you have dropped connection problems and constant reboots here is a possible fix. Take the wall wart that came with it and throw it in the trash. Just because it lights up your router doesn't mean it's up to snuff. Find another 12v 500ma wall wart and try that. I used a universal power supply and it almost restored my router to new. Still get dropped connections and self reboots but definitely not as many as before. My universal is 600ma. So a little more amperage doesn't hurt. But definitely look for 12v.

Maybe if I had 1000ma power supply it would work like new again. Or if I recapped the board. But rather than go through all that I'll just get a new router.

5 out of 5 eggsWRT54G2 router

Pros: I've owned this router for many years now and it is still running strong. I have had very little problems, not enough to deduct a star. This router is powered on 24/7 365 days a week and has not failed me in the two-three years I have owned it. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good router.

Cons: None, router works perfectly.

Other Thoughts: Simple and easy to use, plug it in, configure a few things and you're set.

2 out of 5 eggswireless is gone in two years

Pros: easy to set up, install, not taking too much of space.

Cons: unfortunately, the wireless part is not working properly after 2 years and almost 3 months. the rest of the function is still working thought, but don't know how long it can last.

Other Thoughts: this router did not out run my last D-link which had last for almost 6 or more years

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works out of the box exactly as I needed it to. I'm a gamer, programmer and frequently stream tons of video via Netflix, Hulu etc.

Cons: Haven't found any, works perfectly!

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Sometimes it works?

Cons: Constantly getting disconnected with this router. It's shared and I'm using a wired connection but others in my household are utilizing the wireless ability and they're also getting kicked from the service at the same time as me. I've tried flashing the firmware, new firmware (dd-wrt), playing around with settings like MTU, etc. Nothing works. I'm ready to smash this thing with a hammer.

Other Thoughts: Obviously it's discontinued now but if you have a chance to pick up one of these, PLEASE avoid it at all costs. I'm going back to my trusty GL, atleast it works. Oh, and they still make and support it.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of time

Pros: worked for a couple weeks

Cons: everything else. It worked for a while then started intermittently dropping the signal even though i was right next to it. Tried broadcasting on channels 1 and 11 and it killed the broadcast. None of the devices which are normally hooked up to the wireless could even detect the signal... DO NOT BUY....

1 out of 5 eggsno service customer service

Pros: worked great until I tried to reset the password

Cons: tried to hook up a new laptop to it, could not get it to accept the password, so reset the router (and the password) and ::poof:: no internet on any computer in the house.

Other Thoughts: Called customer service for Linksys and went through chat help (after disconnecting the router so I could get internet) and seems it was out of warrenty and therefore they would only be willing to help me for a price. That price was nearly as much as the router cost. Cisco lost a customer and the online help said that getting another router was a good choice if I did not want to pay for tech help.

1 out of 5 eggsWasted time and money

Pros: Looks nice, runs some what cool.

Performs okay, if it's actually working.

Cons: The first one I had would drop the wireless signal and would require a reboot on a daily basis. RMA with Linksys, got another same model, same thing happened yet again. Wireless dropping and DNS issues. Have to unplug it 2-3 times daily. Does not perform well with multiple users.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I got 2 lemons. I would NOT recommend this router to anyone.
