1 out of 5 eggsVery disappointing -- Applies to version 4 of BEFW11S4

Pros: - worked OK for basic web browsing and chat (*after* firmware flash from Linksys)
- Wireless worked just fine for me (it doesn't have the strongest signal strength, but it's a home router after all)

Cons: - Crashes randomly without cause
- Even with latest firmware, accessing a RTSP (Realplayer) URL causes instant crash
- Without firmware update, MSN *messenger* could not stay connected for more than about a minute
- Without firmware update, all FTP connections would sporadically drop every few minutes.
- Main admin page takes *forever* to load with latest firmware
- Is often VERY SLOW at negotiating a PPPoE connection (I never have this problem with my other routers)
- Could never get AOL Instant Messenger to send or receive files, with or without port forwarding (tried out a software-based router and it was working within 30 seconds)
- Device resets itself and has to reconnect every time a setting is changed. (Configuring port forwarding for gaming or servers is made much more tedious than it should be)
- Without the newest firmware, device would commonly "forget" port forwarding settings, resulting in lost connections and slow speeds.

Other Thoughts: There are 4 different versions of this router, and version 4, which I have, is *terrible*! At first I thought it was just my router, but after researching online, I found many other people were having the exact same problems I was.

5 out of 5 eggs4yrs old, still going strong!

Pros: Been working great for 4 yrs. for 3 computers and a laptop in a 2100+ sq. ft. house! Works without problems even tho I have a cordless phone same range(2.4GHz)right in the same room. Yes, I even talk & surf the net at the same time ;)

Cons: Afraid someday it will break and I won't get the same reliable service again.

1 out of 5 eggsdon't bother

Pros: why can't this be left blank??

Cons: doesn't work well; very problematic

Other Thoughts: lousy product and lousy "tech"-help; I tried to update the firmware to fix another problem and this seems to of fried it because the power light just keeps blinking. Must have spent 10-15 hours trying to get this thing working with 2 calls to support. Don't waste your money or more important, your time.

5 out of 5 eggsEgg-xellent

Comments: Up until recently I lived with network nerds, so I'm a bit of a network n00b, but I set this up with absolutely no trouble whatsoever. The wireless has excellent range (at lest within our small apartment), and the firmware was an easy upgrade. I HIGHLY recommend this item. Oh, and Linksys was prompt about their rebate as well, I got it sooner than expected. Newegg rocks!!!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't purchase this model

Comments: I share a house with 4 other people, and we all connect wirlessly to this router.

The biggest problem with this router is that it will disconnect or quit sending/receiving information randomly. You can't download any streaming video or otherwise it will lock up.

I've searched web forums and discovered that many people have the same exact problem with this particular model.

I've updated firmware and even tried contacting Linksys, but they seem to have discontinued support for this model.

I strongly recommend purchasing a different model.

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK DO NOT BUY

Comments: This is the biggest pice of junk I ever bought from new egg I don't even know why new egg sells this Item. It locks up every 20 mins and so far on my 5th one and still no luck on getting one to work. Every one they send me from Linksys won't even turn on they are that bad they say they check it from the tech shop before they send them out either they do and don't care or they just say they do and they don't! Either way don't buy this model because you will regret the customer service because most of the people on the other end can only speak broken english. So basically they can't understand you fully. You tell them I have upgraded firm ware and rested and they still say did you upgrade firm ware and reset it? They just don't listen. I spoke to even level 2 tech on Linksys and the guy told me that this model has a 80% Failer Rate so if you buy most likly it's going to not work.

1 out of 5 eggsI don't know what to think about this router

Comments: I've gone through 3 of these to date. I had one that worked for a year- just stopped connecting to the internet one day. Bought a replacement and it wouldn't get to the internet at all.. but in each instance the computer could read a signal- just wouldn't be strong enough to get to the internet. Finally got one straight from linksys using the warranty (they are the best customer service i've ever talked to). They helped me set it up and trouble shoot. It worked perfect for one day. Now they're letting me go to the store for a WRT54G
